can i ask why time was wasted on creating a new ui for the evemail system? was there really any demand for this? it just added new problems....and it didn't even solve the problem with having too many emails in your evemail box, and not being able to view new incoming ones.
i read through this forum a lot. i wonder if the designers ever do. i really wish you would. we don't need a nicer looking email system. just pick just about any thread on this forum...you'll see on the top of everyone's list...stop adding new functionality until you can make the server stable...
if that's not convincing, take a look at the user stats on eve-i, the number of users here certainly isn't growing...

I agree totaly about the new e-mail, WHY DO IT? The old system was basic but ok.
Can we have the old system back, this one is not very user friendly, its hard to see who has sent the e-mail, the old system of flashing icons worked well.
I can understamd the idea behind it, but please sort out the important stuff first.
Regarding numbers of players, well I cant see any point in discussing that here. ==================================================

actually the old system sucked when you got masses of mails the new one is much better both for readebility and organization than the old one

er how? - you mean that nice new feature of how it doesn't tell you how many unread mails you have on any page other than the one that opens first - gee I can see how that must of slipped through their bug testing.
Its a crap UI and a waste of a programmers effort which should of been put into testing the rest of this bag o crap patch

I liked the old email system better.. dunno why, it just seemed more simple. I don't like all the stupid portraits I guess.
The new system is better in some ways, just uglier. They also uglied up the character sheet with no added functionality though, so I dunno what CCP is thinking really. :) ------

I said these same things back before patch-release and everyone told me to relax. They said "don't worry, all the bugs will be fixed by patch release." Riiiight, so it didn't take around 3 patches for the last GUI to become fully stable? I have to admit, though, I do like the functionality of the new GUI

Seriously, the new eve-mail is not up to par yet. I think with a few additions (sorting by date, sender, subject) and some blinking indicator on who sent you a new e-mail, we will have someting.
Now if only the New Message button would let you enter in a character name so you could actually eve-mail someone... |

Note that whoever's doing the client-side UI programming won't be the same people doing the server-side core stuff, so it's not necessarily detracting from that.
That said, better to add one new UI improvement at a time and make sure its comprehensive in its functionality, not to mention actually working when released. Whoever's doing the UI programming, or whoever's scheduling their time, would have been wiser to have been fixing the raft of new UI bugs and holding any new EVEMail interface for a later date.
Oh, and one thing I haven't seen mentioned much is how mind-numbingly _slow_ a lot of the UI is, like scrolling through hangar contents for instance. I have about 400 items in several of my hangars on TQ, and much like the FCC/FCC2/SFC hangars on Chaos, manipulating them is a painfully tedious business. There's really no excuse for this, its just sloppy programming [BTW I'm a game developer and lead graphics programmer in RL so I'm familiar with the issues involved, and the sort of performance that should be easily achievable on even a mid-range PC]. |

Check out 1224 on Chaos, MarkA. I think some of the UI speed issues were fixed. |

I repeatedly get CTD opening and clicking down the list to try and find out who sent me what. Numbers to the side of names only flash quick and disapear. It's bugged, fi it or go back to the old one
... you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture. |

I am begging for the option to turn "Iconzoom" off! I got big trouble even targeting a person in my mailist due to network/Computer lag!
If your not a part of the solution, then you'r probably a part of the problem. |
