Hello everyone,
There is a player that offered me "protection" for mining in lowsec via the Rookie Channel, which I declined. However, the player put a bounty of 5 million on my head.
Let's say that I am transporting around 7.9 million worth or ores in a Miasmos in 0.6-1.0 sectors, will 5 million in bounty interest other players to destroy me? I am afraid to lose my shipments.
I would like to know how can you get rid of the bounty, is dying the only way? Will the bounty wear off in couple days?
Sincerely, James Sorrow. |

5 mil?
No.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'Hodor'. |

Please note that 'protection' is valid game play in Eve.

Hardly, the total bounty payout is a fraction of your loss (20% ish)
So the extra payout from your bounty will be trivial.
Which of course does not stop people from ganking you for other reasons (fun, tears, boredom, competition, body odour, shoe size and so on).

Not without getting killed no.
However, remember that you are an almost immortal capsuleer, death is just a cost (not tax deductible I'm afraid).
The most common solution is to ignore it.
The second variant is to find some stupidly overpriced stuff on the market (or figure out how to make something stupidly overpriced on the market and build that yourself), stuff it in the cheapest ship you can find (n00b ship works) and let a friend kill this badly misvalued target.
Share the profits and you see fit.

Bounties only pay out as a portion of the cost of your ship loss, around 30% I believe. Because of this you can be running around with billions in bounty and its still not necessarily worth it to gank you. Whats more important is keeping the worth of your modules+cargo down compared to your ship's effective hit points (at least in high sec). I believe the general rule is to not have your cargo + modules be worth more than 10 times your effective hit points in isk.
The reason for these numbers is that cargo and modules have a 50% chance of dropping when your ship explodes. With an alpha gank fleet it costs around 100 mill to deal 10,000 damage (assuming tornados for ganking). if it only takes one shot to kill you you need to make sure that on average no more than 100 mill will drop from your ship to keep the ganker from making a profit. The first thing that you should realize is that people are going to kill you in lowsec, not because of a bounty, but because you are in lowsec. Lowsec, null, and wh space are free fire zones where people go to shoot things, so they will shoot you just because they can. Bounties are therefore irrelevant in lowsec, null and wh space. As for HS, bounties are broken. Unless you are flying around in an expensive ship no one in HS is going to gank you because of a bounty. If you are in an expensive ship bounties may marginally increase the chance of you being ganked, but ofc you were already a target for ganking as you are in an expensive ship. So all in all, dont sweat bounties, they are broken and pointless.
Edit:
BTW you can safely mine in lowsec - you either have to pick a low traffic lowsec system or make friends with the locals. If bad guys come in - cloak up or warp to a safe/station/pos. Transporting your stuff in low can be problematic - you will need to learn the warp/cloak trick or get a blockade runner. Also never pay protection. You will most likely just get blown up anyways - either buy the same guy who you paid, his alt, or his friends/corp mates (who will ofc say you didnt pay protection to them). I don't play, I just fourm warrior. |

" ... make friends with the locals. "
THAT sums it ALL up...
And don't play alone. Once you get the hang of it... join a corp. You can always split with the push of a button if you don't like the gang you hang with.
PS:They can't kill you.... they can only destroy your ship and maybe send you back to a new clone back "home" quicker than you expected. In which case you shall upgrade it right away before you loose skill points the next time as the new clone will be rather basic. |

Keep an eye out for the guy running the protection racket specifically (set his corporation to red or something so they're flagged in Local and your overview) and you should be fine, no one else cares about a payout that small.
In high sec a million in payout will barely cover the cost of the ship needed to suicide you, and the time and effort required to manipulate you into a criminal flag (to avoid CONCORD) would be much more profitably spent running a fast L2 mission or something.
In low-sec, if you're driving a hauler people will blow you up without even scanning you just to see what you're carrying. Bounty doesn't really matter there either way, since you're unlikely to be able to fight back so the risk is negligible and anything you drop is pure profit anyhow.
(If you're pondering the other end of this, remember that it is technically POSSIBLE to fit a hauler for combat and use it as a trap in low-sec, for exactly this reason. It happens occasionally, and is hilarious.) |
