If I purchase a second account, can I have both accounts logged on at the same time ? Like if I minimized one window and then started up EVE again and logged in with the second account? I was just curious if anyone has done this. If you have any info on the subject please let me know.
Thank You :)

Yes many people have 2 or more accounts - works great. use ALT -> TAB to switch between them

Now dont take my word as gospel but...
I believe you have to have two copies of the client on your computer for a second account. To do so just copy and paste the eve folder to a new folder on your hard drive. I dont think you can 'install' in the normal fashion.

Actually, you don't even need to copy the folder. Just double click the icon again, it'll open up another game window.

If you use two accounts you can run them simotaniously.
If you can run them with the same install without problems great! Although not everyone is lucky so you can install another copy of Eve in a 2nd folder and run both accounts from individual installs.
So you can always try running from the same install on both accounts at first, and go from there.

Set it to windowed mode in the settings then use Switch window (http://grismar.net/shiftwindow/) to maximise the client area to your screen. This allows you to alt-tab without the distressing delay found if tried in FullScreen...

Edited by: Titus Starwalker on 15/05/2006 04:38:13 I have a dual monitor system and I run 2 instances of the eve client at once in windowed mode, one per monitor. P4 2.6 HT with 1 gig ram. Works great. I just move the mouse from one screen to the other to control both toons.

I'm running 1 Gb ram, 1.2 Ghz CPU. Pretty much barely meet todays min reqs.
Would I be able to do this as well...? OR can I assume that two windows means almost double system req's ?

i've had 2 clients running on a 1.6gig 512ram on a gforce 3 sparkle graphics card.... best way as people have said is to run them in window mode.... if u want to run 2 clients just make sure you got no programs taking up resorces, check your task bar for programs that run in the background and exit them

I've got a dual monitor system as well, but if I try to move eve onto the secondary monitor it lags enormously...even if I only have 1 client running. Very strange.

If your experiencing problems running 2 instances of Eve at once on dual monitors, you might need to go into your 'escape' settings page for each client and select your video primary for one and video secondary for the other. That should fix it right up.

What is the benefit of using two accounts? Group attacks?

I use the 2nd account to haul mainly.
When doing level 3 missions in my Cyclone it's easy to generate a lot of loot and it only has a small hold, so once I clear out the area of hostiles I just warp in the Mammoth with a tractor beam and collect up all the loot. I have also fitted a remote armor repairer on the hauler so that I don't need to return to a station to repair armor if my shield tank fails to keep the armor safe. Another advantage is that I can carry a hell of a lot of ammo/missiles and swap over as required.
When mining I just leave the hauler at a station with instas to my miner and back to the station and bring it out when I have a full load if in low sec. Or in hi-sec I just fit another mining laser to it so help boost the total yield.

I run a laptop next to my desktop and have found running 2 accounts at the same time to be bloody awesome. For missions I run my alt on the laptop scooping loot cans since I don't run an AB on my Raven. I'm also working her cap and shield transfer skills so she just tags behind me giving me extra tanking power and scoopin cans. I've also noticed she's getting bounties even though she's not killing anything. As long as I warp the Raven in first my alt really doesn't get targeted. Alt-tabbing between screens on the same PC has many benifits but running 2 PC's simultaniously really opens up possiblities. I'm tempted to try to set up my own mining ops but personally I'd rather bang my head on the desk all night than mine.

I run 2 pc's and a laptop, I am mainly mining in high sec empire for now while I get more SP's. Acct #1 (this one I am posting with) is the escort to kill rats (most of my mining is in .5). #2 is in a retreiver, and #3 is in an iteron V. This way I dont have to worry about stinky ore theives, as the ore goes right into the hauler, and I dont have to worry about rats, and can keep mining while the escort kills them. Once in a while my wife wants her PC back, when that happens, I run the hauler/escort on the desktop and the miner on the laptop. I just alt/tab over to the escort when the rats show up.
I have been able to run all 3 on my desktop, but it was a bit laggy and switching between accts was a pain. >>-------------------------<<

Just occasionally , if I am running 2 instances of the same client, then my sound gets buggered up. Gameplay is fine and lag free tho, and a reboot usually brings the sound back, if I can be bothered.

Its not strange. Without 2 video cards your second monitor is getting nearly no video processing power - hence the 10fps. I have dual monitors but only run the game on one side, have the internet browser up on the other along with MSN, Teamspeak, etc. I then have a KVM switch to switch me to my ghetto dell that runs my alt accounts/boring mining ops/etc. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

Ya just disable sound on one of the instances and that should clear it up. Just make sure you aren't going to need sound. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Win a Cynabal for 10ml!!! |

Making sure each client has the correct video card in the settings turn my dual monitors into this, Linkage
Works like a charm for me, just have to make sure no client's edge is over on the other screen as the fps will drop down to 1 because of the processing power of the gfx card. So make sure client 1 if set to use monitor 1 has the whole client on the primary monitor and not overlapping the window edge or similar.

I read this 10 mins before my new monitor was delivered and without this infomation I'd have been pulling my hair out because of the crap FPS. Thanks for the tip. ___________________________________________________ Serenity Prime Is Recruiting |

Unfortunatly, no. I tried this once and got a disconnect every time I tried.
You must have two seperate accounts to have two clients running in my experience.

Another helpful hint to cut down lag,
Turn off the sound on the 2nd / non-primary account. The biggest souce of Lag for me in the game is Sound, Which stinks because I bought 5.1 speakers and a nice soundcard, and can't use either.
Anyhow, If you cut out the sound on the 2ndary account, you'll notice less lag from the soundcard.
