Okay, its been talked about a lot lately, and I don't know jack about it. Whats the deal here? What relation does it all have with me, a corp, oher factions, npcs? Is there some kind of sec benefit or so standings play a part?
Break this down for me... what is this all about?

From what I heard is that you can sign up to join a faction where you do missions against the opposing faction. If one side has more victory points or whatever than the other, some systems change soverignity and align themselves with the victorious faction. Player alliances may get involved and be able to take over NPC space, or so I heard.
Not much information has been given on this subject and we probably won't hear the dirty details about it until early 2007. Full out factional warfare is due to come out in the second quarter of 2007. ___________________

CCP hasn't released much detail on it yet, probably because they're going to have to be so careful balancing it (as the Caldari outnumber every other empire in the galaxy).
Basically what is known:
- it's probably PvP oriented, although there may be some PvE. - there's some kind of ranking/ladder with rewards for the best pilots. - it will lead to the galaxy map 'changing'. Certain borders will move, empires will grow and shrink.
CCP's vision is that the players of EvE should be the ones that have the most impact on the game (i.e., we've got a player based economy (almost)). So Factional Warfare is going along with that vision.

So basically we'll be doing missions against real people, other than a fleet of NPCs? For those that wish to sign up... correct?
Maybe one side is given the mission to protect someplace for 24 hours and the other side has to take it over? And those that do take and area over then gain soverignty of the system? Seems to me a lot of kinks to work out... and if its coming 2007, what is coming in Kali that we need to worry about to prepare for this?

Nah. They like fighting; if they destroyed all opposition, there'd be nothing left to fight, they'd get bored. ________________________________________________

Completely speculative, but I can see missions being designated to corps and alliances, rather than just to individual players. So think like lvl 10 missions.

As it stands now, there are little to no corps that are truely just one faction. And I'm sure that goes the same for alliances. Basically, faction wars will put a lot of people against their own corps and alliances.
If CCP has an idea of what they are doing, and I'm pretty sure they do, they can atleast give us details on it. But I'm sure it will come and be released just like all other patches, and mostl likely we'll have to trial and error it ourselves and make our own manual.

There's no point in speculating over this just yet - it will be 2007 at the earliest before it's implemented.

Took me a while to find this again (Eve-search FTW!).
E3 Video
This is a small video, where Magnus answers a couple of questions and talks a bit on the Factional Warfare stuff. There's not a whole lot of information, and if you can get past the guy in the stupid helmet-cam, it is interesting at least.

Race does not define a faction. Using race as a faction is simply one example of it. Our corp for instance, align ourselves with the Serpentis (because of our interest in neural boosters). So eventhough our corp consists of different races, our factional outlook is what binds us.
So I believe it's pretty much like an alliance is now. Difference is alliances are formed mostly for political and tactical reasons, factions will form for other reasons, but the main difference being that NPC corps can be part of a faction. Is that about right guys? ///End

I think they should put all pvp in an instance with goals to reach and hand out loyalty points for completing them. Also they should have ranks you can reach if you successfully complete these goals or kill your opponents. Ranks should be based on beating your own faction by spending more time in the instance. Ranks would also unlock cool gear.
No not really.

hey hey
We talked about this in corp the other day and has some interesting ideas.. .
Minmatar/Gallente should war dec Amarr/Caldari
Corps can choose wether or not to join each "Alliance" : this should take care of any friendly **cough** Amarrian corp members and you can still be in your corp
PvP : would be as it is now so no major changes would need to happen. War targets will still be war targets and npormal rules of engagement applies. they should however remove the Faction police Ganking for Low Standing players so you can pay a visit to amarr and go on a killing spree.
NPC : Maybe CCP can create an NPC corp for each faction and players can directly join one CEO's can be "event" characters or Just players doing their own thing ?
Mission based Faction wars : I dunno. i think this is what COSMOS (or storyline missions) are supposed to be. The balance between faction drops amongst races are not in anyway fair Amarr Cosmos agents in minmatar space will get you Republic Fleet mods !! WTF is that all about (different altogether) This would take alot of Effort on CCP's part but would be a great addition imho
i welcome faction wars but not forced PvP but i cant wait :)

Hmmm... well, when we all think of factions we do think of races. Perhaps the easiest way is to let each corp claim a supporting faction to enter themselves in the wars. Maybe there can even be a minimum corp standing in their decided faction as a requirement.
If the go the individual route, it could break a lot of corp and alliance functions and activities. But of course, we are all just speculating.

Faction war means that the Caldari will take over the galaxy with their army of Raven-flying noobs and EVE gets turned into Caldari Online where everybody will be sitting in 1.0 whoring lv.4s and complaining how the other guy's Raven has better gear than their's and needs to be nerfed. According to my E-ON#3, it works something like this.
You sign up to a certain faction, any faction that has these "faction agents". This could even mean Bloodraiders or what ever. You are not restricted by race (AFAIK). When you doc at a station, there will be a new blanking tab, or you will get a mail saying your agent has work for you. You will undertake a mission, something like get these goods from Point A to Point B, or kill this object in this space.
At the same time, your opposition will have mission which might ask them to stop you getting the goods from Point A to Point B, or to stop you killing an object, thats where the PVP part comes into it. Missions will be assigned according to SP in certain areas, so you will hopefully not end up with a 3mil SP player vs a 30mil SP player.
According to the outcome of your missions and other players like you, you will have an effect on the EVE universe. The Amarr might end up being the minmatard slaves, and the Gallente might shove diplomacy down the Caldari throughts. Empire borders will change and we controll how they will change.
This is all from memory, so some of it might be wrong.

This is an example of the eliteist one track mind that really makes me wonder!
Its a game and there are many ways to play it. Because some people like Empire and not 0.0 is none of your concern. You do your thing and let them do theirs. |

Mr...
Eve is a MMORPG... it means Roleplaying.... We have 4 empires, if they enter at war, its up to each individual to take is side... as always in every war till now...
Remember when wwII started? some people choose sides, some choose to stay out of it. Its life... Its EVE. No worries.
