The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Slaves (SPCS) is pleased to announce a naming competition for the fine citizens of Amarr and the other lessor races.
With the success of Port Enlightenment and the speed with which the SPCS has reached 500,000 slaves processed the SPCS is announcing plans for a second Slave Receiving Facility (SRF). This facility should double our planned 25,000 a week capacity and allow us to cover a very neglected region of space with few slave stations.
As you all know the SPCS is dedicated to bringing uniform standards of feeding, housing and healthcare to the poor Minmatar beasts in our posession as well as ensuring they have access to suitable religious facilities to ensure Gods plan of Enlightenment is fulfilled.
To this end the SPCS plan of three matching SRF stations was devised.
The competition is as such:
1. Names will be submitted below in this thread. All names should have the word PORT first (aka: Port Enlightenment).
2. Names should convey the religious or safety essence of the SPCS.
3. Minmatar submissions may be made but Minmatars will not be awarded any prizes lest they be stolen by their terrorist breathern and used against law abiding Amarrians.
4. The deadline for submission is next Friday (5/19 23:00 evetime).
5. The winner will be chosen Saturday (5/20 by 23:00 evetime).
6. The winner may be allowed to attend the innagural station opening depending on their faction status and standing toward the Empire.
The winner of this competition will receive the following prize package from the SPCS:
10 Medium Beam II Lasers (value 10m isk) 1 Amarr Prophecy Battlecruiser (value 27m isk) 13m isk in cash
Total prize: 50m isk value in cash and prizes
The SPCS thanks the generosity of the Kador and Tash-Murkon families for their generous financial support. Without contributors such as these the SRF stations would not exist and slaves would suffer beyond belief.
Thank you for participating in the naming of the next SPCS station of mercy.
Archbishop SPCS Director

A fine suggestion Madam Doyle. However I feel the New port should be aptly named before we remove the port from the evil that is being performed inside.
To quote a famous starship commander: 'I wish they would choke on thier own smug-gittedness'
Therefore I suggest the aptly named:
Port Curmissa
But unlike Poseidon we shall not stand by and allow our brothers and sisters to be slaughtered by sex hungery suiters. We will rise, we will fight and you WILL die.

If i win the prize, donate it to the Khanid loyalists, as they seem to need ships and equipment more than us.. or I would.

The imager flickers and wavers before finally settling into place, revealing the honorable Deacon Ishtal.
"There have been many names put forth that truely show the creative energy of God's followers. The first name to come to my mind, however, has not yet been offered: Port Redemption."
The Deacon nods to the camera.
"I find it aptly describes your cause, as it embodies the hope, compassion, and promise of the project. May God's light continue to guide you in your holy endeavor."
With those final words, the image of the Deacon snaps and distorts into a single point, before a simple logo appears:

So many excellent suggestions. I am pleased to announce there will be TWO winners of this competition. For both the second station now under construction and for our final third station to be built at a later date.
So two identical prize packages will be awarded. So far these are the "finalists" of all the submissions. Of course this is only an inital list and as more names come in it will be modified. These are the names the SPCS officers like so far.
Port Epiphany (Silver Night) Port Salvation (Khaldur) Port Sanctuary (Nyphur) Port Forgiveness (Jenny Spitfire) Port Redemption (Acron Ishtal & Tharrn - A tie in time) Port Benevolent (Hitomi Ayame) Port Absolution (Benefactor) Port Sacramentum (Ethan Silverwind) Portus Salvationis (Illian Deinar) Port Veritas Omnia Vincit (Rumil Focht) Port Pioty (Aran Cole) Port Serenity (Jenny Spitfire) Port Reclamation (Sharshab)
Please keep them coming so many excellent suggestions. I know the Minmatar entering the gates of SPCS stations will be humbled by the kindness shown by their Amarrian handlers and comforted by the peaceful Godliness of the stations name.

Port Goby or Port Symbiote
"Port Symbiote" aims to establish the connection between the SPCS's generous work towards protecting the Amarr Empire's main labour resource, the Minmatar, and the natural God-created symbiotic relationship between certain living entities. It is to portrait the SPCS's willngness to protect and enlighten the Minmatar, just as God himself protects and enlightens the noble Amarr.
"Port Goby" is a more specific application of the described relationship, referring to the collaboration between the goby fish and a simple shrimp. The fish would allow the nearly blind shrimp to dig a hole in the ocean bottom which is to server as a home for both creatures. In return, it would protect that blind hard worker by warning it of possible dangers by pushing it gently with its tail. Again, this name will provide a basic explanation of the relationship between the SPCS and the Minmatar. Furthermore, it emphasizes the gains both parties can experience from such a fruitful coexistence and does not fail to mention and pay tribute to the hard work done by the Amarr's slaves.

I think the same statement, with just a few words changed for accuracy, applies directly to your organisation. Or it would, if there was any sense to be made of it at all.
Its a good thing that most people, at least, understand that those "cheap PR tricks" by public organisations dont mean much at all about the state of the corporation producing them or the empire that corporation is a part of.
Of course, I have come to expect that GLS gallente are quite incapable of such simple realisations.

I will personally not wish any trophies of material goods or funds, but I would offer perhaps an alternative for the thought of the name.
First, it does not need to be actually named port, we all know that's what it is. A name that might somehow more suggest the transition of the ill behaving heathen slaves to be at least ... somewhat introduced to amarrian culture and ways.
Something like... earlier suggested, second chance. Transition or Haven of New Path.

I am pleased to announce a winner has been chosen in the SPCS competition to name our second Slave Receiving Facility (SRF) which will be located near the Amarr/Minmatar border.
The new name is:
PORT REDEMPTION
This winning name was actually chosen by two people at the same time (page 1). Thus in the spirit of fairness BOTH will be awarded a prize package.
Legatus Tharrn - First Praetorian Guard (1PG) Acron Ishtal - Imperial Dreams (ID)
Port Redemption captures the essence of what the SPCS is trying to do... that is allowing the helpless Minmatar, who have wasted their lives, redeem them in the service of God. Truly a great gift!
Both of these fine pilots will be contacted shortly with a location to pickup their prizes. Thank you very much.
And as promised we have also picked the name for our third station which will be constructed in a few weeks. The winning name for the third station is:
PORT SANCTUARY
This name was submitted by Nyphur of Pillowsoft (ISS) (page 1). While not initially considered after some discussion with others in the SPCS it was decided this name truly captures the essence of what the SPCS does. Offering the comforting sanctuary of God to the poor Minmatar.
Nyphur will also be contacted shortly with a location pickup for his prize package.
Again the SPCS thanks you for your participation in this contest. Please know this was not an easy decision to make as so many of the names are worthy. You are all to be commended! Slaves entering the service of God will be comforted by these two fine names and will see the true meaning of life as they enter a new era of their once hopeless lives.

Well, obviously, it's up to the SPCS to decide which sound the best. However, I would personally disagree with you on this point. I considered Port Benevolence, but I feel that Port Benevolent is simply a better name.
Getting the most obvious out of the way, it synchs with Port Enlightenment. Both Enlightenment and Benevolent have similar sounds, including the most important sound, the end sound, and both are the same number of syllables. Say the names, back to back, and see which sounds better then.
Secondly, though, the '-ent' sound is, I feel, simply better than '-ence' indepent of the other name. It's first of all a stronger sound. That 's' sound ends it on a weak note, and while Port Benevolent describes kindness, it also speaks of strength, which I feel is what this name should carry. No offense, but this is an Amarr station, and 'Port Benevolence' sounds like a Gallente name. It's too weak on the tongue, where 'Port Benevolent' can be said firmly and with pride.
Also, within the whole of the name, ending with an '-ent' sound provides repitition, symmetry if you will. In 'Port Benevolent' both words begin with a variation of the same sound ('b' and 'p' sounds are different voiced versions of the same root sound) followed by a short vowel (the 'o' and 'e'). They also both end with a short vowel (same 'o', different 'e') leading into a voiced, roof-of-the-mouth consonant ('r' and 'n') into the same 't' sound. This structure unifies the name as a whole, helps it flow better, and strengthens the already strong 'p'/'b' and 't' sounds.
Overall, many of the strengths of 'Port Benevolent' are the same strengths that make 'Port Enlightenment' such a good name. Obviously, your personal preferences may differ, as everyone has their own oppinions and may find certain sounds more pleasing than others. I just wanted to present the reasons why I feel that my original suggestion is better.
EDIT: Ah well, not like it matters much anyway...still, at least you see where I'm coming from. Oh, and congratulations to the winners! - - - 'Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

I understand where you are coming from, Ms. Ayame, however "Enlightenment" is the same declination as "Benevolence" when it comes to the common tongue.
To whit:
"The enlightenment that comes due to Amarrian benevolence."
You can not directly compare those two words in such a situation. As the root words in common tongue from which they come follow seperate rules of Declination in said common language.
The station, though seen by the Amarr as benevolent in offering, is really put into place by Amarrian benevolence.
Hence: Port Benevolence would be the proper declination, as well as putting it in a press release would be bulky and cause a hiccup in the wording of sentances.
To whit:
"Port Benevolent has recently reclaimed X Matari from their godless ways."
Versus:
"Port Benevolence has recently reclaimed X Matari from their godless ways."
Note that second example flows better off the tongue and through the translation equipment.

About what I'd expect from a blood sucking heretic. The name was chosen because it was the best and if you'll note we also did pick a name for the third station chosen by Nyphur of the ISS. Given recent ISS history with the Amarr (now settled) I think the fact a Gallante could be chosen shows the true honor and integrity of the Amarr.

Here's where we differ in approach. You seem considerably more concerned with the proper form of the word, in terms of meaning, parts of speech, declination, as you put it. You make a good point that Benevolence is similar grammatically to Enlightenment, in that both are nouns, where as Benevolent is an adjective. In this case, Port Enlightenment could read "Port of Enlightenment" and Port Benevolence "Port of Benevolence". However, in this situation, Benevolence doesn't follow as well, because Port Enlightenment describes a place for Matari to come to be enlightened, whereas the "Benevolence" in Port Benevolence does not describe a condition which the Matari seek to reach, but rather the benevolence of the Amarr who built the port. Going purely by declination, I think that either form of Benevolent/Benevolence is really not very strong.
However, I made my suggestion based mostly on the sound of the word. Personally, I feel that the sound of a name is more important than the grammatical aspects of a name, and even so, taken alone, Port Benevolent is actually more grammatically accurate, and probably more easily translatable, than Port Benevolence, since Benevolent describes Port but Benevolence, being a noun, cannot on its own describe Port, as it needs the understood "of" to do so. But once again, I must stress that my concern lies almost entirely within the realm of sound. In the example you gave, of the press release samples, I still feel that Port Benevolent sounds better, for the reasons I outlined in my previous post. Now, I could be biased, as it was my suggestion, though I think I've presented enough evidence to support the case.
Naming is a peculiar thing, and I feel that, in the case of naming, sound is simply the most important aspect. Once a name is used enough (and it does not take very many uses) the actual meaning of the name matters less and less, as the name becomes less associated with what the words themselves mean and more firmly associated with the object being named. The sound of the name, however, remains for as long as the name does. - - - 'Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

I understand, again, your point, however the above is the general naming convention used of any port/city/outpost in recorded history. The "of" is assumed and no longer vocalized.

I was afraid that my standings with the Amarr Empire would have swayed your opinions and made you choose another winner. I am very pleased to see I was wrong. While I have no love for the Amarr military or the common slavery in your society, I have great respect for a people who can stick to their convictions.
If the prize contains Amarrian ships which, despite their impressive design, I may not be able to pilot, I will donate the prize to a young pilot of my own choosing who may not be able to afford the ship.
