I'm about to get into the wonderful world of pirating (or as I like to call it, getting my arse handed to me until I learn what's what) and while thinking ahead on how I'll go about all of it, I began to wonder... do pirates fight pirates? If I search around for a nice little <0.4 system to hunt in, how do I handle other pirates? Is there an unspoken rule that pirates generally don't fight eachother (and if so, how would a new unknown pirate noob factor into it) or is it pretty much free for all?

The best part of piracy is no NAPs, no rules, no limitations. You shoot everybody but your own corp. Good way to get recruits for your corp is to kill them or to be killed by them too

So, odds are that I'll be killed by pirates while trying to pirate more likely than I'll get a kill
Should be fun!

Go to 0.0, thats where the best PvP goes on, pirates or otherwise. In 0.4 and other higher sec systems, you usually get pirates who are specifically looking to kill weaker ships, usually meaning they'll run once someone tough appears. In 0.0 you get very few 'weak' ships, so unless they're grossly outmatched, they'll usually strick around and fight it out. ___________________________________

Well, I'm just in a wee lil Punisher so nobody is going to see me as "tough" unless they're in an indy :P
Been flying around for the past 2 hours through populated low sec systems, and all I've come across is a gate camp which I luckily avoided, and a whole lot of stationed people. Can't get a jump on anyone
Either I'm doing something really bloody wrong or pirating is a really hit or miss thing :P

Edited by: EwokPoacher on 15/05/2006 04:59:20 You need to learn a few things. First and foremost is learn how to use your scanner to scan for ships in belts. There is a tutorial, I think, somewhere in these forums that explains the fine art of scanning belts. It'll take you a bit to get overviews setup and whatnot. Rule of thumb is add belts to your overview and remove ALL NPCs including mission/complex NPCs to speed up scanning.
Next you need to learn which systems are typically populated. This takes some time because you have to familiarize yourself with the area. Be sure to pay attention to what time different corps are online, so you know when the best time to hit a certain system is.
Those are just 2 of the many things you'll learn over time. Don't give up. Unfortunatly learning to pirate can be like learning to fish. On the first few trips you either catch a ton of fish and become a fisherman for life, or you come back empty handed, get discouraged and give up on fishing. Hopefully you'll get lucky and get a few kills, because once you do, there is really nothing like being a pirate. If you want try and get into Sniggwaffe. Assuming they are still recruiting. They teach new pirates how to get things done.

Thanks for the tips Ewok. I've read the scanner tuts quite often, and have my overview settings set for just ships, but even after warping to every area which has celestials nearby, I cant find someone that's in the system, and has to be in space as there's no stations.
I've found a whole crapload of abandoned shuttles though :)

Found two mining operations in 0.0 yesterday, in both cases the characters were 'born' April 2006. Not only tough guys in 0.0, go have a look :)

lol what a joke, 0.0's combat is a joke since interdictor camps are now every bloody where.
Empire ganking requires you fit a heavy tank, so combat with other outlaws can last a much longer, also wcs severly gimps your ships even more so than in 0.0 combat. Becus you need to tank the sentries and also other ships at the same time, whist doing some credible damage theres just no room for WCS really in small gangs.
The general Population is more abundent i find so your not travelling miles and miles for iskies from kills or just kills like in 0.0 that ive experienced, ceptor\frig squads are really all il travel about in within 0.0 these days.
Really dislike having interdictor bubbles in game now, i never had a problem with insta's its like in empire you just need to fit up a fast lock. Generally WCS usage is lower in Low sec empire than in 0.0 which i enjoy more. --------------------------------------------------------

Edited by: Cat Casidy on 15/05/2006 11:24:59 i gotta somewaht dissagree with the pirates kill pirates thing, as for the lst week i've been hunting with people from 4 different corps and we've been having a hell of a time. Rule of thumb is shoot em if you dont know em. Find an area and get to know the pirates in the area, see if they have a channel setup for the area that they all talk in and try to get to know em. if all else fails screw up and get shot down, we always like people who dont smack talk after we kill em, thats an easy in. On the other hand smacktalk is pretty funny, it just wont get you on anyones good side.

Well basically stick with "shoot first, ask later". First thing to know as a pirate, if the other one is flying a ship that can beat you, he will try to. That assumption is mostly correct and you will keep your ship longer at least if you follow that rule.
Always watch local for the traffic coming through, have safe spots in your hunting grounds and learn to operate your scanner. Then other pirates are usually the least problem as they're more likely after the juicy targets in the system. Just keep in mind, they're going to shoot you when they get you. This is mostly the prefered way of introducing yourself to each other.
There can be more to it in times, but in the end never trust anyone... especially when you can't handle them yet.

Like Cat said, get to know the other locals and have fun together. As far as pirates killing pirates, yeah it does happen especially if 1. They attack me or a corp mate, and 2. If I am in the middle of taking down a prey and they warp in. (I react as if they are hostile, regardless if they are or are not)
All in all, it's an interesting aspect of eve. ----------------------------------------------------------

Of course we do, other pirates at least fight back, and don't warp to station, dock, and spend the next hours yelling in local about how they could pwnzz0r you no problem but had to rearrange their ammo collection. ---

I think Kessah was refering to the gank that goes with the interdictor like all bubble style camps. If you consider that a "Real Fight" then I see where your skill lies.
I don't agree with Kessah, maybe it's gotten that way up north but really havn't seen to many of them down south. Then again im a pirate so im not trying to look for good fights that I might could win. So maybe 0.0 combat is a joke, wait it is.
