I wonder if anyone can help.
After getting dumped last night ever since then when I've tried to get back into the game I get stuck at the 'getting characters' screen. (the one where your chars show as three large icons and the news appears in a browser on the right, just before you get in proper).
I go through all the other screens alright and things seem to load until this point but here everything freezes.
I've been playing alright now for two months or so and have made no changes to the PC since last logging in or rather since I was dumped.
1. Should I just wait until the daily reboot to put things right.
2. Should I uninstall and reiunstall? (This would be a real pain due to all he patching since the version I bought).
3.Is it a prefs.ini thing?
4. Can I do anything else.
I feel there must be someone else out there with a similar problem and wondered if there's a fix for this as the game is curently completely unplayable.
Using a PC with 256 ram on win xp.

IF YOU ARE GETTING A black screen instead of the character ecreen, try logiing in with a incorredt password. then loginning in with your correct one

I get the blue screen with the chars names, as well as the large portraits and a sort of transparent black rectangle over most of it running from left to right. The characters images don't appear.
The small dialogue box saying 'getting characters' appears in the centre of the screen but then nothing. No activity on the PC and a locked screen.
I've sat waiting through breakfast hoping it would just kick in but it didn't.
So in essence the game loads but not the characters which suggests a server side problem rather than client.
Interestingly I can see my character status on this site through the 'character info' link so they're still there.
Problem is I can't get to them.
As an aside, do people from CCP read this forum coz if someone is, can you check this for me please, as I can't petition as I can't get in? Thanks.

Just tried saving prefs.ini outside the game and renaming it, then deleting it from inside the game and relogging on.
No joy. More I think about it though more I think it's a server side thing.

It is a client problem. Just went next door to a friends place and was able to log in fine so back to the drawing board.
Looks like a reinstall. Ah well!

Same problem here very irritating.
My screen froze up after a jump.I restarted eve but my caracter wouldn't load.
And I cant file a petition because it's not working.

Yep, I had this as well, except in my case I had logged out nicely and hadnt been dumped out.
However, the reason I had logged out was because the map button would not open the map screen, it would toggle space objects on and off instead, and autopilot would not work.
I got to the exact same point, where it there was the progess bar showing loading char info. Sometimes it would show my char portrait, sometimes not. The browser window was always open but empty, and took up about 1/3 of the screen and I couldnt move or resize it. Exiting the client was not possible and I had to restart my PC.
I had to re-install in the end to resolve the issue.
Anyone raised a bug report for this?
