I currently run level 3 missions in a Duramaller variant and I'm having a tough time fighting against Webber frigates.
The problem is my optimal range using small guns and multifrequency is 3.5k-5.5k, the webbers orbit me at anything from 9.5 to 11k.
I carry arround a set of longer range crystals that can hit these but the damage on those are terrible, not to mention the fact that the orbitting range makes a smartbomb useless too!
It seems that the range they orbit at suits other ships that have longer range weapons with a good enough tracking to hit things 10k away, whereas those of us that specialise in short range get penalized again! Is it not bad enough that short rangers have to tank for ages just to get close enough?
Bah
Snipe and grind ftw I guess

I get this problem in lvl 3 missions all the time. My solution: webber. Web the frig that is webbing you, turn on your AB and head straight for them, you eventually close the distace enough to make your weapons effective.
All my ships are short range, and personally I don't make a short range setup that doesn't have a webber on it.

How do you figure out which enemy is webbing you though?

usually is the fast frigates that get to you really fast, or you will be able to tell by the name (Angel Webifier?).
There is also a website that you can look up NPC's and see what damage they do, what they are resistant to, and why specials they have (webbers, scramblers, etc).
In my experience, lvl 3 and below missions, nothing bigger then a frigate will web you. Don't know about lvl 4's.

EDIT: I will get the link to the website to search NPC's as soon as I get access to my EVE. It's a website that works in the ingame browser.
Also add that if yo utake the tactic of webbing nearby frigates and flying to them (even if your webbed you still go faster then them with an AB) checnces are you will eventually kill one :P
As for the website If i get home before you post it I will post the link as I actually have it bookmarked outside of the game (at work right now... leaving work after post lol)
On another note... I knew there was a reason i never put much stock in Small ACs/Blasters/Pulse...

here we go as promised http://grismar.net/eve/rats/index.php
Just chose one of the 3 dropdowns (i think its Other Data that has the web ranges in it) and then search for your rat type :P

By the way, that's the link that I have in game, works awesome in the in game browser. I keep it up all the time, whenever I grab a new mission, I look up the faction I'll be fighting.
Autocannons are sweet, just gotta rig to be a short range fighter ;)

I play in windowed mode so i have it bookmarked in both places lol. Makes recall easier later :P
As for the ACs... I agree. I use them myself alot. Its the "Small" short range weapons i don't see much use in as their range, even after falloff, is still quite pathedic :P

Mostly all I fly is frigate sized ships, and that's where I use autocannons the most. My skills help, as I have added percentages to falloff and such, but I find that Nuclear S is a great ammo to use. Decent damage output, plus the 35% optimal range. I've got a max range of 7-8km (optimal plus falloff), and usually orbit around 4-5k. Note that mostly these are tech 2 200mm.
I can rip through mission frigates with a few shots, and even larger cruiser rats in under a couple of minutes. largest rat I have taken on is about 300k, and it took some time, but I was able to pop him with little damage to myself (good shield regen).

lol Sounds like fun. I think the only frigate i have flown in any combat in the last 6 months is my Hound Stealth Bomber. I had a Wolf too but never used it for much. Couldn't find something i could do with it that my Cyclone did better :P

Cyclones are nice, have the BC skill book just haven't trained it yet. Something about it being too slow for my tastes. If I can't make it go 700m/s or faster while I am fighting in it, don't like it that much :)

lol yea the 200m/s speed is kinda annoying (400m/s if you have an AB). But i take some though that i can hit something from 50km away without much problem. And if i use my split setup that will trigger the setup police to yell at me I can solo lvl 3 missions without haveing to worry about range :P

You could try grabbing a 90% ish webifier and then using keep range on the inty ... that might help your guns hit better at the extreme range?
