Hi all, I am new to EvE and I had a few question about charater roles and such. I'd like to eventally become a privateer/pirate. I think that EW and Electronics would come in handy in this profession, being able to sneak up on an enemy to get the jump on them wouldbe nice. I was also wondering if there is a demand for EW ships in providing cover and jamming sevices for a fleet. My question is is there a real market in EvE for this type of charater? Do pirate usually run with ECM, EW, and jamming before they hit targets? I stillneed to read alot more on the various utems and component modules but I thought, I'd just field a quick question. Thanks in advance.

EW pirates like Parm said are in need, and work well both in small scale gangs of only a few people as well as large fleets. Get your electronics skills up, and train Caldari ships for best results, unless you want to try say Sensor Dampening or Track Disrupting.

EW pilots are indeed wanted with just about any fleet operation, and they can truly change the outcome of a battle.
Basic components are:
Tackler: Fits warp scramblers and webs, locks target from escaping. Usually a fast ship.
Jammer: Fitted with racial/multispec jammers, provides cover for fleet and disrupts enemy targeting. Blackbird, Scorpion for instance.
Dampener: Fitted with sensor dampeners and sensor boosters, forces enemy ships to close if they wish to maintain locking range. Celestis is often used for this.

Wow! Thanks for the responses! I was not expecting to get much, but EVE seems to have a great community.
So the Caldari ships have the best EW profile? That sucks I am part of the Gallente Fed. Can I use ships from another races inventory?
My career as a privateer is getting off to a slow start. Right now I am just running courier duties until I can make some ISK for a better ship (I got a Imicus after I finished my rookie pahse). The Other day I saw a Maulus, which is supposed to have a EW profile, but it was too expensive.
Thanks again for all your help.

You can fly any ship you wish, you just have to train up the skills for it. Race is a non-factor other then what your avatar looks like.

You can always just start training for Caldari ships if like... (you will not lose much training time in your current state anyway :) ) Removed signature image, resize to fit forum policy of 24000 bytes. Thanks =) - Daigon |

Okay so I am free to fly whatever ship I want. I like it! Which brings up a skills question.
Reading around the forums there seems to be a way to decrease the time it takes to train new skills something about training a learning skill first and then train the skill that you want. I am very fuzzy on this concept. Currently I am traing on the things I think will make a a good pilot for the job I want to do, electronics, drones, iron will, and command.
