I'm a 2.5 year old character and throughout this game I must have recruited about 10-20 players to join a starters corp back when I was a director for one of those starter-Empire corporations.
Now after having seen it all, top PvP, uber Fleetbattles, I want to give my knowledge to the new players of EVE (as my posting history + activity on the help channel proves). And ofcourse build something out of it, a corp. But how do I get members?
I used to go to the starter systems like Todaki, or Cistuvaert where I would show off in my Battleship mining (<- lawl). And the first Newbie to convo me, amazed with my ship, I'd lure him into my corp. Good times, ... It was luring. But now I feel like I really got something to offer these new players. A future.
Now... my question is, how do new players get recruited these days? You have any hints or tips for me please?

I'm gonna guess how most get recruited. As i am from 2005-12-09 myself.
Firstly, form the corp by sitting in a startercorp, this is where you get the first bunch of people to join. 1-10 or so... Make an Alt and fly around with and just mention your corp some or go all out and ask people to join ;). Following do the normal, drop a can and set it's name telling people where to go to sign up, preferably in starting systems if that's what you're after. It's me :=) |

To clarify, with a 'starters Empire corp' I mean, not the corp you start in as a character, but an actual player corp, your first corporation.
And yes, the newbie corp chat channels seem to be perfect to lure people to your corp, but as I said, I don't lure and I won't.

It's exactly what i mean =) startercorp in my eyes = newbie corp. If you don't wish to lure folks into it, then right out ask them. Otherwise it's Canflagging that seens to work. It's me :=) |

Edited by: Tristan on 15/05/2006 22:15:09 As with any campaign, advertise.
in other words, sell yourself and your corp.
Just think of ways to do it, origional and interesting will get you more attention. Cans saying "join our ubar corp" around gates will just piz most players off to be honest, more than enough litter out there as it is.
Off the top of my head... you could maybe, build a website with EVE tips and help info on it, ways to make money, run missions, handy info and ways of doing things etc. aimed mainly at new players, and advertise your corp on there too.
Good luck

Edited by: Reynod on 15/05/2006 23:13:12 I'm a newbie, and I would have to say that the best place would be either the newbie help channel, the newbie corp channel, or the recruitment channel.
Right now I'm only a trial (going to lose the internet in a few days, coincidently right when the trial ends so I'm going to train a big 18 day skill then pay for the game when I get the net back), anyway its a bummer to go looking for a corp and to find that no one in the recruitment channel wants you.
Cans around gates get ignored, especialy by newbie players so I don't advise that. Just let them know that you have a corp where you want to train up X newbs. Incentives like free ships (even a cheap cruiser or a frigate with good gear is a huge incentive because at that stage its still an ass-load of money) and letting them know its not just all newbs will go a long way.

You should try recruiting out of game. Like a popular forum you visit other than Eve-Online. You'll be recruiting green troops but at least you'll know a bit about them before you recruited them. Just look at Goonfleet, almost everybody there was recruited from the SomethingAwful forums. ___________________

My CEO blew me up for stealing his cans. We talked about it for a while, he gave me a frig to replace my destroyer gave me money. Thats not what got me to join, it was the conversation and the help he offered over. He explained where he was coming from, certain things I should watch out for, and certain WARNING windows to turn back on. lol Some people though just don't want to be in a corp.
I have found success watching the rookie and local windows. Some players will post that they need help in a mission or something else. I IM them and help them out. Afterwards I explained to them about my corp and some come and some go on doing what they were doing. The ones that stayed are awesome.
That strategy might not work for everybody though.

Its probably good to have "We're recruiting" in your signature as well, linking to some page with the corporation goals and mindset. I know i usually read those anyway...

Didn't the Big Merchant Bank of Eve do that and ended up with zero people taking out a loan?
Yeah, word of warning, know the demographic you are trying to target. Otherwise you might be wasting time and ISK trying to recruit people that don't want to be recruited. ___________________

I was ceo for a starter corp for maybe 4 month and I loved it, except it tooks so much time.
so how t get members?
- rookie channel -> barley works - traveling and asking noobs in starter corps -> works somehow specially when you give them some cash ( 100k are a lot for a 5 day old ) - recruitment channel -> never worked - forum -> mostly no resul, think I got 1 player
so basicly my best success was in BWF-ZZ mining with some noobs and after a while they joinned us.
just gave up on ceo for time reasons :)
btw, BYDI rocks guys :) Never met such cool guys before... i was used to be ceo and now I have nothing to say, this is so relaxing :) |
