Being a Newbie to EvE. I was wondering when you are mining or minding your own buisness and a new ship comes into your area. how can you tell if that person is going to go hostile?
I have not had this happen yet. but since i plan on spending most of my time mining, I was just wondering when you know that it is time to get the heck out of there?

1. Trust no one.
2. Read 1.
3. Show info. If they have < 0.0, they might be hostile.
4. Show info. If they have < -2, very possibly to be hostile.
5. Show info. If they have < -5, definitely hostile.
6. Show info. If they have > 4, they might be empire gankers.

Most cats in .5 and above won't attack you cause of CONCORD. Now that doesn't mean they won't attack you out of spite. Everything that was stated above is right, show info on everyone. If your in a corp find out from them who you are at war with, who are the normal player pirates that roam around. Find out also who the normal macroers are in you system and mine with them. Mine your ore and take theres. If there stupid enough to attack you take them out. VEDLSPAR is the best ore (sike) and as a newbies I'll warn you now. Stay away from VECAMIA or any .4 and lower when mining until you can protect yourslef or go with a group. Player pirates there that only attack noobs. They won't play with you when you are able to fight back. pussies.

Yeah what she said in the first 2 points. Dont trust anybody thats not in your corp.
Pretty much if they warp into the area and start closing on you consider them hostile. Most times if they will sit at their warp in point and then warp off again if they are just looking to mine. If you start to see the distance to target getting smaller get ready for battle.
Security Status can be handy for the obvious low sec rats but I've seen many player rats with + sec status.

True. War dec highsec pirates are even worse though.
And yeah, when in low sec, always, always, always run when an unknown shows up. 80% of the ships that I've encountered in low sec while mining have attempted to can bait my mining ship or outright shoot me. _______________________

If someone warps in on you, its not usually an accident. Best to run.
