Will there be comming a new sounds engine for eve? I recall reading there are many new things on the drawing board for *trinity (*not sure if I got right build name) One of them a new features for next gen video cards. But does this also incude a remake of the current sound engine?
Its kind of lacking alot of preformance... or worse, it eats up alot of preformance... turining of all sounds in eve now, results an extreem FPS boost.
... Info welcome, if ya know more.

That's cause no one uses the sound.

It would be nice if eve could import mp3's for play, also better sound effects would be nice...maybe id turn on the sound then :)

If EVE played mp3 ccp would have to pay license fees. They removed the jukebox' ability to play those (unmodified).
EVE with sound leads to many problems, including CTDs. (Probably a problem with autoupdaters and EVE trying to fiddle with sound settings. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

I'd be satisfied if they just added a volume control for sound FX. I mean ever hear lasers? they have a horrible annoying sound and are so much louder than any of the other effects. I like to hear the voice and the GUI but not some of the action sounds. Idealy a volume control for GUI and SFX would be nice.

I consider it bull**** that the subscriber base isn't more ****ed off about the sound in Eve. I play with it on almost all the time because a) I think the music was well-done in the extreme, b) I like quality of the sfx and c) situational awareness. I only turn it off when running two clients or heading into large combat situations.
But a video game without sound is just Minesweeper. CCP needs to iron this whole thing out for the vista port.

Is it as simple as the possibility that Eve doesn't allow us to select hardware sound (dedicated sound cards that we all have) or not (software)?

I'd like to see options in the preferences to make certain sounds mute and other louder. I have no interest in hearing anything that is currently offered.
I would like to have a jolt noise whenever I'm being fired upon.
I had a 1983 car that had a female voice tell me to put on my seatbelt, etc... Eve voices are just as irritating when telling me I'm docking, etc..
Alert me when I'm being fired upon - lose the rest or give me options to mute everything but combat sounds.
Thanks

That's the only reason I turn on my sound... the lasers sound like something I'd expect from my Atari. -----

Edited by: Ursulan on 19/05/2006 21:13:49 My sound has always been buggy, through several different platform upgrades. Even today in the middle of combat only some weapons sounds will activate and I get random loud 'click' glitches. It's a damn shame I constantly have to turn it off when I really enjoy the soundtrack.
I have never understood why the players didn't make a big fuss about the sound engine, but I guess as other posters have pointed out, most people just get jack of it and turn it off

Edited by: Decairn on 20/05/2006 17:04:31 Sound is useless to PVPers on a voice system. I don't know anyone that turns on sound that ever fights. Also, last I look I lost 10 fps or more simply turning it on, so it stays off. --Decairn

uh the reason no-one uses the sound is cos the sound engine is ****. if it worked and didn't lag the client to hell then more people would use it..
They'll have to fix it anyways if they want folks to use they're new voice tech, so they've kinda done themselves up the arse on that one.

The sound engine was a masterpiece 3 years ago. EAX was not able to do what CCP wanted so they wrote their own. Problem was that it didn't like a lot of codec based soundcards. As the market has clearly moved to a EAX vs Realtec Codec vs VIA Envy fight the problems of the EVE sound engine have grown. If you find a sound driver that is very stable with EVE you have found a nugget of gold. I find the most stable sound drivers I have ever used is on my HTPC's Chaintech AV710 which is based on the VIA Envy24 HT-S. My main PC has the Audigy 2 ZS and the lastest drivers are ok but nothing special.
I really don't blame CCP because many games including Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 have been displeased with EAX so they wrote their own sound engines. If what you want is CCP to resample the sound FX then clear that up in your post title. If what you want them to do is make it work better then do some research on sound drivers and install one that works with EVE well. I do run with sound when I am not on ventrilo or listening to music.
