@CCP
it's been two expansions since you talked about the POS overhaul with dockable poses, minishields and all that. Could we please see an update or sitrep on that project?
We got some minor adjustments and a bugged XL-SMA which you claimed WAD on.
Don't get me wrong, I love you and your work. I live in W-space and still waiting for ze poses to get fixed, even though it's old code. |

You may as well send this request to Santa Clause, it's got equal levels of happening either way. |

The mobile deployable have long been cited as pos 2.0 code in action. It's all modular after all. Not a giant stretch of the imagination to see how things like cyno inhibitors and mobile depots could have bits and pieces of their code extrapolated on to a new core pos system.
It's no secret - Eve has been running on a skeleton crew for years. Only after DUSTs low yield and WOD being canned have we seen any statement of intent to fix eve actually. The fact that the warning signs were in seagulls 2013 fanfest address is an astounding feat of playing the sloe marching court. LP store weapon cost rebalance |

POSes ain't ever getting fixed. At best next winter you'll see a bunch of new deployables that will get us ever closer to replacing the POS. |

CCP has done their best with the POS code and has concluded that it just cannot be salvaged in a timely fashion. A POS overhaul is not going to happen. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.
Let me repeat that.
NOT EVER.
What CCP is going to do, however, is continue to develop mobile deployables and continue to expand on them and push the boundaries of what they include. The Mobile Depots, Mobile Tractor Units and Mobile Micro Jump Arrays of today are the baby steps and early experiments towards the full-fledged POS replacements of the future.
CCP has already specifically said that the base code for mobile deployables allows lots of room for further development, and they've also specifically said that what they've decided to do is work on a "pos replacement", add it into the game along side POSes, let the two run in parallel for a while and then simply remove the POS code altogether.
So please keep your panties on and wait while CCP does what they need to do in order to not rush a half-developed, half-functional feature into the game that will be left to rot like everything else they've never finished. POS replacements are too important to mess up on simply because of player impatience. |

POS replacements are too important to mess up on simply because of player impatience. There's also the hope that they eliminate the likely code duplication between station/outpost services and POS services with this effort as well, making both easier to support in the future. That adds even more reason for them to go slow and make sure everything works properly, since it will affect exactly everyone in the game in a VERY major way, much more so than the broken Inventory they dropped in our laps. |

If they go too fast you'll blame them for rushing into things. They're taking careful steps and that's good. Things don't suddenly become perfect overnight. Just picture new features in EVE as skill training : level one will be fairly easy, but it'll take you forever to reach level five :) |

Additionally, it bears mentioning that POSes were added as one of those "gotta go fast" projects and now look at the mess we're in because of it. |

Deployables are essentially going to be the new poses (whether that is good or bad we'll have to wait and see). I'm curious however on what exactly is going to happen to the existing pos code once they're done toying around with the new stuff. Will they pull it all out or will it be so entrenched that they'll just have to leave it dormant in the code? |

They're going to try to remove the old POS code once they figure out how far its corrupt and insidious tendrils actually go. |

Will be interesting to see how CCP will solve the issue of securing your ships and items if they replace the new deployables with the current POS system.

Remember the 'Flogging the dead horse' threadnaught on the old forum. The idea for a modular POS, that thread stayed on page 1-2 of 'Features and Ideas' for about 3 years.
Basically, players have been asking for a POS overhaul for at least 5 (probably more) years......
