Just somwhat curious, why so many people feel the need to post with an alt? Nothing against them, i'm just wondering on the logic.

In the alliances forum some alliances have rules where your not allowed post there so some resort to posting with alst but then again alot of people are just scared that someone might find out who they are

The most common reason is that they simply want to be able to say whatever they want without being held accountable for it. Its much easier to flame and bait in the forums if it has no reprocussions on your char. In short, they lack guts.

In most 0.0 alliances, telling the truth on the open forums will generally get you kicked from your corp. Hence the alts.

Telling the truth doesn't hurt. Spouting nonsense or making your alliance look like fools will however get you into trouble most of the time.
It's mainly a lack of guts tho, and people taking the game far too seriously and thus feeling the need to post all kinds of random crap that a normal player wouldn't care to type.
Bitterness is the result of many a defeat in games where something is actually at stake. Eve is no different.

So, what exactly is an "alt". If you have more then one account, is only one concidered the "main"? And if so, which one? I understnad that the other charcters not generally trained on one account are concidered alts. But, the question is which one of a multiple account persona is the main? ...

The one you spend most of your time on.. thats your main.
Alts are used so people can make comments that they dont want associated with their mains...
sad really.

Hmmm, "most of my time". Well since i have them all running at the same time on different machines this still doesn't realy answer the question.

I you could tell, what would be the point in doing it? 
Alts are often flame baiters and many a flame war has been started by alts. I always post with my main. If someone has a problem with my post, let them get on with it. If they want to hunt me down and shoot me because of it, it's their choice but it would just show they have a real lack of intelligence if they resort to violence to solve an arguement. Just because someone can blow your ship up in PVP, doesn't make them the winner of the forum arguement just the same as RL. If they beat you to a pulp, doesn't mean you were wrong and they were right, it just means they can hit harder.
I don't understand the political side of it except that there's a lot of suspicion and paranoia in many of these alliances in 0.0. So many are worried that members may give away critical secrets etc. Because of alts, there are probably spies in their camp anyway so their secrets are not really secret but the paranoia still exists.

You cut and paste their name into people&places then you checked their history etc if their really obvious they would be like a day old in a newb corp. Or they could be years old alts that are dedicated to forum chit chat.
My mains in Burn Edens corp i just wouldnt want anyone to know what an a.rse i can be on here sometimes so i post with this char instead.

It's not just people taking an argument from the forum into the game to harres that player. It could also lead to your corp being wardec'ed. that would be visiting your house and butchering your family in RL instead of just punching your own lights out.

This reason doesn't really work. If alliances were worried about people posting security compromising secrets on the forums, they'd be encouraging posting with mains on the hopes that someone who would accidentally do such a thing would do it on their main account, where they can be tracked down and be dealt with. Note how this policy has no effect on malicious leakers either way as they would be smart enough to post with their alts.
The actual reason is more simply for the sake of wanting to avoid attention from people looking for a target or wanting to avoid offending those who might be easily offended. An alliance has an even greater interest in ensuring it can choose its wars and forcing people to post with their alts ensures that only the official spokespeople are out talking on behalf of the alliance.
