Shalee Lianne is absolutely a capable leader, and has definitely been a major reason for the Amarr fw successes these past few months.
Personally, I dislike having a gender "war". Men vs women. It really shouldn't be that way. This game is a leveling ground in the first place. We're who we make ourselves to be behind the computer screen.
Personally, I'm always pleasantly surprised when I meet an irl woman in EVE, but mainly because they're so rare. Not simply because they're female.
EVE just doesn't interest women at the same rates it interests men. Nothing wrong with that.
But I don't go "OMG BEWBS!" when I meet an irl female xD Personally I prefer knowing someone's gender so I can relate to and understand them better. I always enjoy making new friends, and women are often easier to get along with in EVE. Usually.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been surprised on voice comms when meeting a female player (or at least didn't visibly show it). Especially if I'm told ahead of time that they're female.
I know female diplomats who do a fantastic job, and I always consider it a privilege when, female EVE players especially, consider me a trust worthy person. Mainly because there are so many idiots in EVE who freak out or don't know how to react to working with a woman in a videogame. 
My general "OMG" moment usually goes like this.
"Oh? Are you female irl?"
"Yes"
"Oh cool :)"
And then I move on with the conversation, or just try and stay polite about it. Beyond that, not much else.
I personally think it's good having a channel for women gamers to hang out in. My personal channel is mostly made up of women players. OP was very reasonable in wanting to find other female players who have been successful in leadership roles. It's nice to know you're not alone, is all.
Judge people by their character, not by their gender. And this goes both ways :P

My own have been: "Oh my god, it's a unicorn!" with lots of nervous laughter, to male FCs convo'ing me to make sure I'm okay, and feel comfortable, to (my favorite), no one giving a crap, and we all go off and pew pew like fiends!
Eventually, men in game come to the stunning realization that women are people ;) |

The few women I know to play this game are quite dangerous. The lot of them would steal, swindle, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer their weasely black guts out. The sad part about it is they are so very good at it and their marks never see it coming. Damn good pilots they are.

Despite how this post has kind of derailed, I will say that I am a female CEO. I have only met a handful of other women in this game but of those, all have been CEO's or directors except for one. I've been gaming since I was little and anymore I just find the reactions to my gender to be mildly amusing. It is a decent way to filter for recruitment, though. When we pull people into ts for an interview if they balk at my voice it's a good sign we don't want them in the corp. |
