I was tooting around tonight in a cheap cruiser with some friends. One thing leads to another and I find myself holding a newb's pod for ransom. The newb's friend warps in with a Kestrel and pods his friend (!?), I guess to save him from us after we held him there for 10-15 minutes.
Anyway because I had damaged the pod, I lost heavy sec status when the dude's friend popped him. Now I'm -2.7 and I can't have empire fun anymore (no Jita for me).
Looks like I'll have to rat in 0.0 to get my sec status back up. Question for pirates out there who rat to improve sec status: how much status do you gain back for popping a 1-1.5mil rat BS? Hope I won't have to be killing NPCs for too long.

No idea, but if you want to help your situation you should train the social skill "Fast Talk" which increases your standings gains per rat kills

Good stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to buy the skill without entering .9...guess I can travel in my pod.

Fast Talk LVL 4 - I got around 0.2% per 1Mill + BS in 0.0 I think.

Your sec takes into acount the bigest rat you killed in the last 10 minutes i think.

i find it's usually aounrd 5 bs's for a .1 sec drop.

A couple of points.
- The worse your sec status is the easier it is to raise it
- You get 0.18% increase for the smallest bs. 0.25% for a 1.8mill ISK bs.
Long story short if you get 0.2% for each bs kill it will take you 30 kills to get back to better than -1.99
Thats about 7.5 hours ratting assuming a sec increase every 15min.

Expect 2 days of hardcore ratting to get it back down to 0.0 sec but on the upside you'd of made 100mil from the bounties alone and probably another 60-70mil in loot. End up probably richer than when you first started out pirating.
Raising security status is probably less time consuming than mining, you could tank a whole spawn and visit the comp every 15-20 minutes to switch targets.
But this is supposed to be the best way of punishing pirates.

I'm gonna rat anyway, this will just force me to do it earlier. I feel bad for nubbehs who lose their sec status and who don't have ships in 0.0, it would probably take those people a year killing .4-.1 rats to get their status back up.

Heh, yeah about 6 months. A couple weeks ago I tried pirating, got my sec to -4.1 and realised this wasn't the way to go at my SP level, so I started the grind - but only on cruiser rats. That was 3 weeks ago, and now I'm at -3.7
It aint easy :D

850k BS-rats give 0.18% security status-increase
1.7 mil BS-rats give 0.24% security status increase
1.85 mil BS-rats give 0.25% security status increase
Security status updates every 15 - 20 minutes (no exact number as it varies)
However it does not seem like it takes the biggest rat killed into account when updating, but instead takes the last killed rat. I've had several occasions where I've only gotten sec stat-increases of the frigs even though I've killed several BSs. Best way to get sec stat up is to kill a single BS, wait for the sec increase then kill another and so on. This obviously doesn't yield large amount of isk, but it is rather effective to get the sec stat down ie. I got my sec stat from -5.2 to -4.4 yesterday by doing that.
PS. I have Fast Talk lvl 0, so expect more from the above-mentioned rat if you got that trained.
