Lol if we all get rare drop every lvl 4 mission we do, sure price will crash and then even the good loot becomes worthless if that is what you want.

Mostly crap loot i agree but the good bits make up for it. I've also built 3 battlecruisers and a battleship from reprocessed loot this month, sure beats mining.

got 2x local hulls ,1x beta hull mod and 2x 22% expanders on serp pirate invasion yesterday
usually dont see any good expanders for weeks.
oh but one thing i noticed importaint level 4 missions are usually crap and worse than even crappy missions like duo of death or the score.
seriously usually some crappy reward for barely any isk and not worth the standing hit! i got loads of imp rewards from l3 agents on l4 ive got 1 and it was a pos charisma

Yup, most loot is absolute crap. Fortunately all those mods do add to the mineral pile, which in turn means lots more shiney ships, or free ammo at least.

Just finished L4 extravaganza. ALL crap loot. Not one item that marketed for over 100k. However, all that crap loot, when either sold or reprocessed and ore sold, combined with mission bounties and rewards netted me 23.8 million. Not bad for a couple hours work in empire. _______________________ ...Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Kodan Armada... |

Absolutly. I bet me and my bro/corpmate have 100 mil in minerals in the loot in our corp hanger. run mission. Bring in nano'd indie with tractors and AB to quickscoop loot. wait a couple weeks. Refine junk modules, make ammo and sell what goes unused. After this we still have enoug good modules to for 50 ships.

its funny when people say you shouldn't loot... it only takes a few minutes if you do it right, (tractor beam, nanofibered indy) and some VERY good loot is dropped among the crap. maybe when you count your money in tens of billions or something the top-named (but not officer or faction) modules are worth ignoring if they cost all of 30 seconds's effort...
yes, theres alot of just plain trash. but theres also large amounts of lesser-named stuff... which at least for SOME people is nice to be able to have stuff a LITTLE better than produce-able without having to buy it. backup equipment and such.
but I guess some people are just too l33t for that.

The problem is that it does not take "just a few minutes if you do it right". Unless you use an alt on another account. More often than not, you would be better off just finishing the mission and moving on to the next mission.
That said, since they brought in Tractor beam, I use an indy to loot :) Even though I have broken down the calculations and I would be better off not looting.
I have a Tractor beam set up on my Raven and I still kill stuff a lot faster than I can tractor beam in the loot.
It is not a matter of being l33t it is a matter of simple math. I am better off doing 3 level 4 missions than doing 2 level 4 missions and looting ... way way better off.
Now for the disclaimer: This is valid for "most" missions there are a couple worth looting.

man, you must have really bad luck in one way or another.
I will admit, SOME missions are such that the chance of getting anything good in the loot is so infintesimal that its not worth the bother.
and how does it not take only a few minutes? go out, kill everything, dock, undock in nanofibered-sigil(2 tractor beams, sensor booster, afterburner) and vacum it all up... maybe for some reason your loot is being strewn all over creation? I do it in a dominix... and this isn't usually THAT much of a problem. and my sigil with nanofibers and named afterburner goes pretty darn fast for an indy.
but like yesterday on a mission I got an Internal Force Field Array from a can on a mission. I've seen several named cargo expanders, handfuls of named guns, named repairers, hardeners, ect...
gotta wonder how people who throw away money manage to get to a point where they feel they can readily throw it away.

Edited by: Arakasai on 18/05/2006 23:22:19 Edited by: Arakasai on 18/05/2006 23:18:49 I kill 1 Battleship in a level 4 mission and I make 1 million isk. I kill much much faster than I loot.
Even if you even it out to about 85k per ship, I kill a ship much faster than I pull in a can. And that is simply on bounty, not even factoring in the LP conversion or the Storyline mission loot.
So, you finish the mission, you fly back, you activate a hauler, you fly out and you loot, then you fly back in the hauler, you activate your combat ship, you ask for another mission and you fly out. Even in the same system it does not take "a couple of minutes" to loot using a loot ship. It takes a couple of minutes just to fly there and back. Then you have to lock on and reel in 20+ cans. For most missions, I could run a second mission in the same amount of time it takes me to loot a mission.
You generally get something worth bothering to sell rather than to reprocess once about every 10 missions or so.
Is it so hard to believe that 5-10 million and 3000 - 5000 LP plus storyline missions about 2x as fast does not put you in a better position than looting the cans?
Lets say I get something every 10 missions worth 20 mill to sell (Unlikely). Alternatively I could run an additional 10 missions, yielding me 30k LP which is worth about 70 mill. Not to mention the additional bounties and the additional storyline loot.
I will take the 2 +3 implants over the beta cargo extender any day.
Now if I was doing Angel instead of Gurista missions, perhaps these numbers would come closer together. You would probably still be better off doing the mission over looting though.

ahh, ok. I see.
I'm just not in enough of a hurry >_< I fly a dominix... only the easiest missions(which I admit, are not always worth looting) could I kill even half as fast as I can loot..
if it took you half the time it took to kill everything, to loot it, (an additional half, that is, like if it took 10 minutes to kill, it take 5 minutes or less after it to loot) would you loot?
I also very rarely sell any of my loot... some is for reprocess, but alot of it is just kept for backup equipment and all...

Well lets apply similar math, using the LP payout only.
2 missions + loot versus 3 missions
Similar layout, 3000 LP per mission vs 20 mill loot item over 10 missions.
So essentially 10 missions + loot versus 15 missions straight up.
Roughly 2300 isk per LP, with those additional 5 missions, I make an additional 15k LP.
2300 * 15000 = 34.500 million isk.
So, probably not :)
And this is rather light in all honesty. The mission reward + bonus + additional bounty + additional storyline loot should much more than even out the non-rare loot you gain.

I guess it comes down to play style. you sir are obviously the calculating min/maxing type, to whom nothing has meaning but the numbers. Others like the thrill of the find. They check out every can just to see if that internal forcefield thinger is in there this time. No one style is better than the other. just understand that what is logical and obvious from the one viewpoint isnt from the other.

Well, thank you for judging me by your own narrow standard. I did not say nothing has meaning but the numbers, I merely supplied numbers to outline my arguement rather than debating with no supporting material.
Nor was I attempting to enforce a particular mindset, but thanks for wandering by and schooling me on understanding viewpoints.
You might also note where I said I load a tractor beam on my Raven and I loot with my Indy. So, I can well appreciate the thrill of the find, not that I find much mind you. However, you and I would likely be better off not looting.
I also rather enjoy the thrill of a storyline mission, wondering if this storyline mission will bring me something exciting.
However, all of the above does not make it more lucrative to loot rather than just run missions. Not that this should stop anyone in and of itself, merely that people should be aware that it is not a lucrative.
If looting makes you happy, then by all means do it, however understand your choice and the options available, for uninformed choice is rather like no choice at all.

Meh, so you get what, 10mil ISK including bonus from a lvl 4 GE or AE?
How much do you make from the bounties on a lvl 4 GE?
Its not the rewards for the mission that's giving tons of money, and missions aren't the reason people can make far more isk in 0.0 belts.
