I'm a little worried about brining this up, I fear only the ridicule and flames that I have seen from this fourm sofar. The thing is I've started mining as a break from combat, but I've had some problems finding ore belts that are not mined out or gone alltogether.
For example I was in Aunia system 0.8 and 4 of the belts where void of all asteroids after talking to some locals they talked about loads of mining barges and users with random names like 493429832.
Aunia is kinda crowded so I thought I would move out to 0.5 systems, but only to find most of the asteroids removed again, I checked many systems and got the same result.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Does the region affect the ore quantity?

Region affects what kind of roids you'll get. Some regions get certain asteroids at certain security levels. I think you can find kernite in high security Amarr space but you can only find kernite in low security Caldari space, and so on.
Looks like you are the victim of a macominer that is mining everything in sight. Try mining in Amarr space, it is quieter here. ___________________

im not sure about that... but yes, there are macrominers, and yes, they ******* suck. not sure if ccp is going to do anything about it really, im sure theyd like to, but its probably not high on their care factor list.
what are you mining for? if its for money, youd be better off finding an empire system with an ice belt, and mining that, as it never runs out.

Thanks for the tips, I've never heard of macrominers before, some locals did say bots but I thought they where some kinda NPC or player ship, still not sure about them. But I will try the Ammar regions and see if I can at least find asteroids

About 2 weeks ago I decided to manufacture Frigates and Cruisers for fun and hopefully a little profit.
I have noticed the same thing. One day I can mine Omber and the next all the belts are empty except for veldspar.
It is the macro players that are mining and selling ISK ( I think on E-Bay, no proof thou) that is missing this up for us.
Please CCP do something. Time to tell us you have Banned 100 accounts of these ##$$%%^^&& !!

Its not only the macrominer,
miner corps, and some miners live in one or two system, wait until ore respawn and mine it in a couple of hours. It doesnt take long to strip a system of omber or kernite with a covetor
Traveling is the key, find a low populated system and you should be ok

Wrong, macros have driven the price of ice down to near nothing. Without a skiff you'd make more mining veldspar.

Edited by: Yd Landark on 19/05/2006 05:36:41 Well, not ALWAYS are the macrominers.... I mine in Zaimeth sometimes, (most on babyroids respawn days) and... well... 12-24hs is what the real players need to make all the kernite go away... and they are all real players...
try some systems w/o bases... you will need a hauler, but its easier to get the got roids...

Back when I used to mine in high security, nuken was a good high sec system with plenty of ore. I spent atleast a month out there and only noticed other mission runners. The surrounding hich sec were mostly clear as well. ------------------------

Vellaine is a sleepy system with absolutely nothing going for it. I know cause it used to be my headquarters. I'm sure you can find alot of asteroids there and you being caldari I'm sure you are close.
I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round. |

I suspect the number of pilots able to fly large barges is more to blame, macros and farmers must play their part but I'm not convinced it is a large one.

I agree with many of the comments posted in my topic, like one that now learning what a 'macrominer' is, I think it's not just these people cause some systems to dry up, I did runinto many 100% legal players mining in groups with barges that can strip whole belts in a few hours.
I don't have any problems with the mining corps striping the belts (the legal ones that is) they are just playing the game like us all, I've now scouted other belts that are not too bad and the problem is not epidemic yet, but with the EVE player base growing as I hear it might begin to become a problem.
But thanks for the comments and tips.

Thing about mining is it is also PVP. Corps will scout for the best mining spots and setup there. Keep scouting, check your map for low population, check local for any obvious macro names (uiegfuuh) etc. You might have to do some travelling, but the good spots are out there

Train Indy skill.. buy large indy... find macros.... find jet can... offer to help transport ore... cept don't tell then, and forget to give it back to them. Then refine ore as a favour to them.... then forget to give them the mineral... then sell minerals and forget that it was thier minerals in the first place.

or even better, drop a can at their hauler pickup point, wait, they take stuff from it, they blow up. repeat until bored. come back the next day.

Alternatively, try joinging a 0.0 space corp and mining out there. The minerals there are a lot more valuable (I average between 20 and 25mil per jetcan of ore) and belts arn't stripped out as often. ______________________________________________

Just move out of Caldari, Amar, Gallente and Minmatar space. move to one of the outlieing regions. I know some regions I don't see people for an hour or so... And this is still in highsec.

I've forgotten respawn days now :/
But rare roids out in 0.0 spawn twice weekly.
And I think omber and stuff is every 3 days or something?

Respawn days are diffrnet for each region I believe. I find scouting using the map to show number of player in system after I earmark several possiblies helps. The future away from the hub systems the better as people will not travel that far to mine and the isk farmers like to stay near the main markets for ore.
