I just had this start happening a few minutes ago, a couple of hours ago eve was working fine. After the logon screen where you type the name and password, after I hit connect and the main Eve window appears (the one where typically you have to choose from which 3 characters to log on), that window is fully black, and Eve is frozen. I don't know if anyone has this. I've deleted the cache directory, and tried everything I can think of. I've tried multiple accounts, and they all do the same at thing. At the character chooser screen Eve freezes. Any one have a solution?

I have the same problem but if you first try to login in with the wrong password and then enter the right password i get my characters.
I use GeForceFX 5600 card and I have read about other players having the same problem.

I use a GeForceFX 5600 to and I also get that black screen when it comes to the character selection. Sometimes I can pick my character but than it wont load into space, just a blank screen. Any other way to get it to work?

If you have Windows XP here's an easy fix as I, too, run a FX5600 and have gotten the black screen numerous of times, figuring it was a sound acceleration issues. However! I saw a post saying to run Eve in Win98 compatibility mode, and it has worked every single time thus far. To do this:
1) Right click Eve shortcut on desktop (Or the Eve.exe itself) 2) Click Properties 3) Click Compatibility tab 4) Check box to run in compatibility mode and select Win98 5) Hit OK and you shouldn't have this problem anymore.

And I just happen to have a GeForceFX 5900 Ultra. Anyone see a pattern here? :) And both of the suggestions worked. Thanks guys.

You can check if you have any equilizers on. I couldn't get sound effects with my Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer due to having a sound equilizer enabled. I'd be under the EAX tab in "Mixer" I believe.
That is found in Control Panel under AudioHQ, with Mixer up you'll see EAX. Just something you can try, make sure "no effects" on everything is selected. When I did this, I got sound effects...freaky.
