Just out of curiosity...I know around 5000+ people are on each day, but how many total accounts are there? Anyone know? (esp. devs) it would be a cool statistic to watch. "Drone cannot be commanded as it is not actually present."

The general concensus that most people claim is about 40K subscribers. But really I don't think anyone cept CCP or someone involed can really know.
I have a feeling that most MMORPG companies, don't like actual subscription numbers made public unless they are some kind of landmark figure... Not sure why... But they must have some reason.
I Think it might be kind of like a double edged sword.
I mean if a game is doing poorly, do you really want to tell everyone: hey guys we only have 20K subscriptions! Tell your friends to buy this product!
No... From what I can gather MMOrPGS grow exponentialy sorta.
Like EQ has 500K users then 1 million, and still counting... Is that because the game is so good?
I don't think so... EQ was great back in the day, but it's actually no more complex than a graphical mud. In fact most of the way the game works is the same LOL.
But I digress... I figure we'll only be "officialy" told about subscription counts when it balloons to landmark numbers...
Like:
Pann: We reached 50K subscriptions this week! We at CCP want to thank you!
Pann: we reached 100K subscriptions this week, assuring us all that EVE will be around for a long time! thanks to everyone!
Pann: We have beaten out EQ with over 2 million subscriptions! EVE II draws closer than ever, and the new "Subscribe to EVE I, get six months of EVE II for free!" marketing campaign really worked! See you in game!
Galaxion > If you drove a car shaped like a thorax women would call you Demangel > Dude... I would call.. Demangel > wait that sounded g@y I bet. Galaxion > Just a bit.

45.000 is what I've seen.
But that's probably lower now, 35.000-40.000 or something like that :|

Bah you better all tell your friends to get this game. I know I have. I love this game and don't want to see it die. It sure beats the hell outa lvlinbg some damn EQ character in a server full of some sad sad ppl who rather rp something online rather then live their lives. Also EVE doesn't need like 8 hours of your day each day. HAck you can play it just on week ends and still do well. With the skill system being time based.

Tell the truth.. there are really only 22 people.. holed up somewhere in west Iceland, in a cave .. yes they have internet access.. and they are the only ones playing eve. The rest of us just post mindless drivel on these boards to get unwary strangers to send money to another stranger with a swiss bank account. His name is Ernie. He lives in nigeria. I think. Send Ernie some money. ************************************************ Coming Soon to a Sector near You May be hazardous to your ship so Be Warned! |

Nobody has any official numbers nor have they been released. It's speculated around 50k people are paying subscribers.
"The human species suffers from a dimensional limitation. They are not able to understand that matter and mind are just one aspect of something more fundamental. We must strive to expand our perspective so we can see what our true reality is." Deep toughts by Mr.Pops, while consuming large quantities of Blue Pill and staring at the EVE gate in Genesis.

industry standar computation for subscriber to actual online player ratio is around 4-5 to 1
so if there are 5k users online thats 20-25k players total subscribed

even 30k+ it's not so bad, many MMOs are avaible now, that's not exactly like if you back even 3 years Ago with only AC/EQ as flagship and few other minor games
Then Came AO and DAoC ... the overall net population don't grow as fast as it used to do since 4 years imho.
I don't care how many ppl play eve, since i don't feel lonely in space, and that's far to be.
