Living in a wormhole and we got a good Grav site, with some Mercoxit in it. So I wanted to try to mine it and got me some modulated deep core miners and merc crystals (along with all the necessary skills) but I'm running into the message where it tells me my ship doesn't have enough turret slots to fit the modules. This happens whether I try a Covetor or a Skiff, which I thought was supposed to be custom made for merc mining.
Have they changed the mechanics where you're supposed to mine in a combat ship, similar to how gas harvesting is done? Or is something else going on here?
Thanks

Modulated deep core miner IIs are mining laser turrets, not strip miners.
Look for a modulated strip miner. |

For a mining barge, you need a Modulated Deep Core Strip Miner II
Quote:Using a modular mining crystal system, it can be altered on the fly for maximum efficiency.
Can only be fit to Mining Barges and Exhumers.

You should check if it is worthwhile to mine Mercoxit.
Last time I blindly did, I was earning less than mining Pyroxeres. |

It's soul crushingly slow. But hey..like hookers...you should try it at least once. |

best thing for mercx is a procurer ... it gets some MASSIVE bonuses to the yield (still slow as hell ... but IIRC, better than a hulk of equal skill). |

Pretty sure you mean the Skiff, not the procurer. And it does start to out mine a Hulk when you have exhumers 4 or maybe 5... don't have EFT in front of me right now to check.

Last time I blindly did, I was earning less than mining Pyroxeres. To elaborate, though Mercoxit is a valuable ore and more valuable than many others, the m3 yield can be low. Mercoxit strips, crystals, and Skiff bonuses, are all very different than for all other ores. So you have to do the math to make sure it is worthwhile.
Example: If Mercoxit is worth 50% more than Pyroxeres, but you can only mine 60% less, then you are losing 10% compared to mining Pyroxeres.
Also keep in mind Mercoxit is huge and a Skiff is small, so you have to use a hauler and jetcan. I don't recommend leaving an Orca or Rorqual in a w-space belt to haul. |
