can someone tell me what it tastes like? does it taste like say... standard bread yeast? maybe a little more malty?
The last time I asked this question, very graphic remarks were made instantly (on another forum), and I never actually got an answer. Hence, I'd still like to know! Help a dumb american out :-/

If the Devs stopped faffing about with the China cluster and built-in voice comms, Marmite would still be the same colour.
Actually, it's always been a surprisingly light brown. After you open the pot it darkens quite quickly. A fresh pot will have a dark surface with a lighter brown underneath but this soon becomes almost black.

Ding ding, we have a winner. Moving the thread to OOPE.
I have tried marmite once, it was... odd. It's just nutritional yeast extract, isn't it?

Marmite.. How to describe Marmite... I would rather lick the bottom of my boots after a hike through a cattle farm than eat Marmite.

You either love it or you hate it.
I love it (and dont ask me why, it looks horrid) - the above, well, hate it
It looks like your spreading car oil on your toast in the morning

I love it but quite honestly I prefer Vegemite since it's easier to spread, especially when it's cold cos Marmite tends to rip the bread up.
As kid, I used to dip my finger in the jar and eat it straight from the jar that way. I looked at it as a time and motion study, it saved time buttering the bread etc and saved a slice of bread as well so someone else could have a sandwich, just so long as it wasn't a Marmite sandwich they wanted
I agree it's more brown than it used to be. I remember it looking more like bitumen.
On a side note: Rats love it so if you are baiting rat traps, try spreading a little on the trip lever rather than the normal bait. 100% success rate so far for me.

I forsee marmite being used as insulation some time in the future, just as vaseline went from cooking fat to... other uses over time.
Remind me about The Maze.
