Since I started playing EVE back in 2012, I have had only one thing on my mind....PvP. For the longest time, I spent my EVE life in the security of High Sec, doing missions, playing the market, watching people get rick-rolled in Dodixie. Then in 2013, I decided to take my first step into the more dangerous world of EVE and moved into Null space. Finally, I thought, I can see some action. While it was fun, it didn't last long for me and I eventually went back into the security of Carebear life. And there I remained while I let my subscription run out and remain that way due to RL things and boredom of EVE. Something was just..."missing" for me with this game and I couldn't place my finger on it.
Months later, I re-sub and gave it another go. "This time, I'm going to do it right" I thought to myself. I decided to actively seek a Low-Sec Corporation that offered Piracy or FW...basically just anything that had to do with Low-Sec. 14 days later and -8 security status in, I have finally found my calling...a true passion that I can thoroughly enjoy in EVE. I found my home. Even though I haven't had the pleasure of true Piracy that you get to read/hear about with Ransoms *Something I can't wait to successfully do*, it's still been a fun ride. Just the thrill of watching local constantly for spikes in player numbers, scanning sites down for ships, or patrolling and stalking Asteroid Belts. I have indeed found my love for this game. Whatever it's called these days, Piracy or what-not, Low-Sec is where EVE shines for me and I don't think I can ever go back.
I absolutely blow at 1v1 but with every fight and ship I lose, I always learn something new. With every fight I get better, and if I'm lucky, I'll run into a fellow Pirate that will send me a message or pull me into a private convo and actually let me know how I messed up. It's been a great learning experience for me and I plan on to continue this journey. I know a lot of people could care less about this, but I felt I had to share my experience thus far and will definitely post again as my life out here matures. So to the Pirates out there, I salute you and now I know why you love what you do. May your kills be bountiful and your space tears be plenty.
o7
P.S. To the haters of Low-Sec pilots, if you can get over losing your pixels, a lot of these people out here are actually really cool if you actually just talk to them instead of crying after losing your ship/pod ;)

Lowsec is the best place to be somehow. After a break from Eve I thought I'd try something new and go for a WH corp but I ended up in lowsec again. Nothing beats the excitement of hunting down stuff and you still find some loners in belts or smaller gangs there, this is the best PvP you can get in Eve. |

Even if I'm not a hunter, I also took the plunge into low sec some weeks ago and find it pretty cool. Finally it's the best place to feel the freedom of the game; no politics, no TiDi, it's dangerous without to have a magical Concord and not with 50 people on local.
good luck in your way |

Awesome to see another player enjoy lowsec, nice post, keep it up. Question though what happened (or should I say didnt happen) in null that made you leave? Nowadays Im more drawn towards the null entry system then lowsec in itself, dunno why but there is something special jumping into that gatecamp of 50 with a few friends and wreck the tacklers it just feels win-win I guess.

o7 and thanks for your question, Sarah. To be honest, I wasn't a fan of the huge battles...the overwhelming numbers on my Overview just wasn't inviting to me. Out here in Low Sec, I prefer the higher chances of 1v1's and small gang battles. It's just more my pace and flavor. Also, I do not miss all the friggin Warp Bubbles, lol.
Also, thank you Solecist Project's Alt, I plan to! o7

Never really been in thoose battles myself, I found my calling and thats small gang warfare (small gang for me then I dont mind going up against 30+ enemies at once), the best moments out there is to take a few friends out and just see what happens. Tbh Im not a big solo guy but Ive done my time as that as well. Wish you the best.

There is a good way to get better at EVE pvp faster than just straight up practice. Get yourself a copy of FRAPS (or similar) and record all your fights, most of which will be footage only you will ever see. If you're anything like me then watching the first few recordings back you will hardly believe the decisions this clown is making and so you won't want to show the early stuff to ANYONE (or to everyone depending on your pride level). Critically though you'll see your mistakes on the replay that seemed like a good idea when you did it in real time and these are the mistakes that take the longest to correct because the situation changes so quickly and you forget what your other options were. Much better to replay fights repeatedly so you can see what you did badly, what you did well and when it would have been better to just bend over and practice your deep breathing exercises.
Many people get risk averse in this game and that makes people also averse to trial and error since errors are expensive. FRAPS will let you effectively lose one ship multiple times and can even lead to some of those lovely pvp videos later on once you start getting footage you are proud of.
And you're right most of the people who know how to have fun in this game live in low, so if you're really loving it down here then chances are you belong in the fun bunch. Fly Dangerous o7. |

Just a little update.
The action since my first day out here has been just completely epic. I have been cyno'd on by Pandemic Legion and Shadow Cartel numerous times, lost a few cruisers And I've also been able to return the love to a few more corps as well by dropping on them with blops fleets *Soooooo damn fun* I have camped gates and even started to partake in a new addiction of mine now which is Carebear stalking.....ooohhh how fun it is to hunt these pilots down in whatever pocket they are in..I don't know why, but watching them blow up if they don't heed to my commands for ISK or their goodies from mining is just...completely....satisfying.
I am by no means "elite" or a "badass", I still die, quite a bit but I still, learn something when I lose my ship. So I can honestly say, I never die to the same mistake twice..at least, that's how it's been so far in my Pirate career. But isn't that the point and fun to this game? Losing to me is just as fun as winning, because either way...someone is going to die, right?
As always, respect and o7 to my fellow Pirates out there. YAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR |

OP, I'm glad you're having fun in low-sec. It's the one part of space where I've been able to have the most of it in, and you seem to be having that fun there as well.

THIS especially. Being gracious in defeat is such an important thing to do, yet there are some people that just choose not to. Even if it's just a 'gf', victims would most likely earn respect from their killers, and in some cases explain to them how they could avoid being caught in whatever situation they were caught in. I recently had an Ishtar die to a risky final escalation run in a RAZOR-owned system, and they were cool with it after the gf, and helped me learn how to trick probers like them from finding me. (my corpmates were helping me with this as well, and I thank them for their assistance too).
Good on you, OP. |
