BUT
It is everything but representative of eve in it's current state , there probably aren't enough fingers in Iceland to count the numbers of things in this trailer that don't appear in the game ( and that someone who doesn't know Eve would maybe expect to). Yes, with the Summer expansion ... Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

This trailer represents the future. you can jump into any of ccp's 3 and soon to be 4 (as they kept saying 4 levels of consciousness) form a single launcher, using your eve char.
All three games will be linked and have an impact. thats the future vision. |

Yeah, was there any footage of what the new warp animations will actually look like/how they'll work in game? Judging them by the cinematic is not good, because CCP always makes cinematics 10x better than what's actually in game. |

These are *warp* effects, not *jump* effects. They happen when warping within a system, not jumping between them.
Jumping will stay exactly the same.

Posted this in another thread but I'll post it here.
The trailer was actually a glimpse into the past. When Caldari and Gallente built their first Stargate, since before that the empires used ancient stargates built by the Jovians and Sleepers. The Amarr where the only ones who mastered gate technology which is why they attacked.
AD 21290 The Amarr build their first star gate, between Amarr and Hedion. This sparks a period of great expansion for the Empire
AD 22588 The Gallente and the Caldari build their first stargate out of VH-451, sparking a period of expansion which mostly benefits the Gallente
Due to Gallentes expansion they forced Caldari to join the Federation, later causing the Caldari to rebel and leave the Federation which started the conflict between Caldari and Gallente.

No, it's a player corp they are attacking.
But the interesting part is that whatever is behind that gate, it's bad enough to make the Amarr throw away the various treaties and declare open war on a player corp to stop it from happening. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

Incorrect, Jamyl I acquired a Terran Shield Inverter that was "left here", back before we lost spacefaring capabilities. It was able to annihilate an entire fleet at the battle of Mekhios. A single shot from her abaddons retrofit terran shield inverter caused the shields of countless ragnarok class titans to collapse against their hulls, cascading throughout the fleet, until all of the ships were demolished.
That was tech they LEFT here before the gate closed. |

Actually, that was the troopship pilot that said that, asking for fighter support.
You can tell because the Valkyrie ship is coming into attack range behind her as she is saying that. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

The Amarr where the only ones who mastered gate technology which is why they attacked. AD 21290 The Amarr build their first star gate, between Amarr and Hedion. This sparks a period of great expansion for the Empire AD 22588 The Gallente and the Caldari build their first stargate out of VH-451, sparking a period of expansion which mostly benefits the Gallente Due to Gallentes expansion they forced Caldari to join the Federation, later causing the Caldari to rebel and leave the Federation which started the conflict between Caldari and Gallente. https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Timeline That's... DEFINITELY not the case here.
There weren't Dust soldiers/legionnaires and Valkyrie pilots back then.
This is precluding the first player-made stargates- and it uses the description from the Erebus, which was from the prophecies of Macaper (read The Seven Events of the Apocalypse) and you'll see even more of what I mean. Looks absolute amazing.... ahhh what game is this ? cause its not EVE
Eve fleet battles look like this.
http://youtu.be/fz3vFs7WY5U?t=2m11s
Still epic but nothing like the game visuals that CCP shows.
MSG for CCP. new people see the fancy visuals.. they get excited and try EVE and then are like WTF ! this is not what I was led to believe.... all they see is spreadsheets, com windows and purple / red boxes...
Instead of blatantly misrepresenting the game visual you can actually have a functional game with ... how about CCP develops some different UI options.. So people can lose some of the UI (if they choose) and see the nice visuals underneath all the boxes...
Suggestions
- Toggle targeting circles on/off - Toggle ship cross/flag when ships targeted/selected on/off. - Get rid of the cap/shield/armor/module UI and make it minimalist.. It looks something designed in the 1950s not a cutting edge spaceship game. - Remove the border/ selected column shading from the overview window. This could be removed in all windows.
Final suggestion - make the ships bigger and ranges smaller so we can actually fight like the trailer shows.. be awesome to be in a frig and close orbit a huge battleship. - Fleet formations with advantages/ disadvantages per formation.

1.) The trailer was AWESOME. Good work, CCP.
2.) My interpretation of what happened in the trailer was as follows:
The Amarr saw the capsuleers' construction of a stargate as a threat on several levels. For one, it dovetails nicely with the Prophecy of Macapar. Needless to say, they Amarrians aren't particularly interested in allowing the apocalypse to happen. Second, now that the capsuleers can build their own stargates, there's very little they need to depend on the empires for. The knowledge of how to construct stargates was one of the few remaining edges the empires had over the capsuleer alliances, and now that's been lost. |

@helana
about the ship sizes- they only look that way because of camera perspective.
Turn on advanced camera settings, hold Ctrl, then drag the mouse across the screen with both sides held down- it changes the perspective to the real level if you want, but it makes things look bad in some situations, too. slightly off topic, but only just. The prophecy in the trailer is from this chronicle, The Prophecy of Macaper Chronicle something i found interesting, is this line: the sixth is described as GÇ£what was many now becomes one when one becomes fourGÇ¥ during the ccp presents keynote, Tori mentioned that the Valkyrie have new cloning tech, that will allow then to move there consciousness into four different host (games i assume) EvE being 1, Valk being 2, Legion being 3, and something unknown being 4 is my guess. But that seems a bit coincidental if you ask me, that we are going to play 4 games form one (if i understood that right) and the proph says the sixth is described as GÇ£what was many now becomes one when one becomes fourGÇ¥ |

While these trailers are awesome, like usual, I can't help but think they actually hurt EVE's new player retention. EVE players link these videos to their non-EVE friends, their friends think "Whoa, that looks awesome, I'mma try it", and what they get is...nothing even remotely close to the trailers. Basically, it causes people to come in with extreme expectations, which makes the reality that much worse. |

I was under the impression that Empires and Pirates could make gates already, this trailer seems to imply something beyond a normal gate, perhaps one to new, distant, regions of space. Not sure who is building it, as it looks like Amarr vs everyone else in that battle.
Also the pilot at 1.38 saying " Bravo wing, clear for dust off" sounds oddly familiar, is that voice taken from a Command and Conquer game or something? I'm Naomi Hale and this is my favourite thread on the forums. |

Well, she's in the latest Valkyrie demo as your commander (so she's done a bunch of lines already), and her character is walking around in that trailer in a couple of shots, and given that it was directed at a fighter squadron, it was the most logical option.
And yes, it does sound a bit like the medivac from SC2. |

As a trailer, amazing, the music alone is chilling. Hopefully you can make the actual game look even half as good as this. Personal highlights include the warp in animation and formations, the wide angle shot of both fleets going at it and the door opening into the Templar charge, loved the BSG moment with the dropships as well.
Legion needs to be a lot bigger, according to this video we can have thousands of ships ranging from dropships to titans hammering on each other outside but the interior "battle" will be at most a 10v10 affair? hardly the grand scale we've come to expect from Eve. If you're taking on Star Citizen in space, at least be brave enough to take on PS2 on the ground, it's not as if you could do any worse than SOE.

Here is an idea: everyone not part of one of the huge powerblocs can help Providence gather the resources to build one of these gates.
The gate will then be put somewhere in Providence and be open to all well meaning neutrals. BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty. |

This new gate looks suspiciously like a supergate to me - the type they built around the original EVE wormholes (if I remember my lore correctly).
I would love to see these gates lead Terran space, with some new NPC or other such in this space. I would also like to see story line around what happened in the past, and what happened on the Terran side of the gate after the eve gate collapsed.
Also, we still don't know WHY the original eve gate destroyed itself yet do we? |

I don't see any point in stating the difference between a trailer and in-game audio/video experience. Every person with a basic understanding of technicalities should not expected one to match the other. On the other hand You certainly can't place A/V at "school" level.
As for the stargate building feature, the amount of resources, planning, logistics, time and security required for such a project (if proposed to the players) should and probably will be a multiplication of those utilized with titans hence only a couple of the most powerful alliances/coalitions will be able to deliver. This not only mirrors real life (which we all value so much in reference to other MMOs) but also drives more and more people in to PvP.
But those are just my speculations. We should wait patiently for more official info from CCP before making any more assumptions. |

I hope not, they need to make it harder for capitals to move around, not easier. Then maybe the smaller alliances would be able to stand a chance against the larger ones when they are defending their own space. |

The problem is with this trailer is the same as every year's trailer. It's pure cinematic awesomeness, yet is so much different than the game. Not counting stargates (which will get added) here are all the things the trailer shows that we don't have yet in the game.
1. Meaningfu uses for Walking in Stations 2. Stations being used for DUST/Valkyrie players as well as EVE Players 3. That kickass effect as ships warp in. 4. Realistic ship damage (shields buffering, parts flying off, structures failing, etc) 5. Crashing ships into each other (probably not a good idea to implement in game, but still awesome) 6. EMP effects (before the gate fired all the ships "turned off") 7. DUST PLAYERS BOARDING SHIPS/STATIONS (probably the most anticipated feature that never came with DUST) 8. Probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Watch Fred Fred Frederation and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Ia! < interrupted > CCP Cabal: No! Don't pray. Just tell us what the question is. CCP Your Petition Will Be Answered In The Order It Is Received: It's simple. We allow the players to construct an EVE style mega wormhole stargate. We dangle the promise of new lands to explore and conquer. CCP NoogAtoN: Fap, fap, fap.... errr... do go on. CCP Samuel L Jackson: A super mother fornicating stargate! Which requires a super mother fornicating amount of resources to construct! CCP Moa: I will personally design the art for the EVE super < CCP SLJ: mother fornicating! > stargate.

In the end of the trailer we see what effect a opening wormhole can have on the surrounding area. Now imagine the EVE Gate opening again and such a shock wave travelling through all of the cluster. It could even travel faster than light as it's not really material but a space/time distortion. Speaking of everything being destructible and running off to greener pastures where it's save. Lost it at this part. BoBwins Law: As a discussion/war between two large nullsec entities grows longer, the probability of one comparing the other to BoB aproaches near certainty. |

This implies that Valkyrie is to be incorporated in Eve.
For a long time I wondered why we don't let players pilot the fighters and fighter-bombers and maybe that is going to change. It would certainly add quality to the carriers.
Good luck to CCP for this vision. I hope they pull it off.

Well I sure do, how about valkyrie pilots taking control of a flight of drones. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

In theory, the new systems should have WH's appear in them. My guess is that you will use the wormholes to link the systems. Otherwise you will a) fly blind, b) have no want home till you gathered the resources, and c) can't expand till you gather resources. This means if its a one way trip you have to be sure you bring everything you need on the first trip.
Would make since to use wormholes to get to the next system to build your gate and link them. But i really am not sure how this will work |

I would love to see these gates lead Terran space, with some new NPC or other such in this space. I would also like to see story line around what happened in the past, and what happened on the Terran side of the gate after the eve gate collapsed.
Also, we still don't know WHY the original eve gate destroyed itself yet do we?
The word "EvE" is said to be derived from the remnants of a structure at the Eve gate. Note that the special gate in the trailer has these v-like structures on it.
Note also the gate was being constructed in deadspace.
The "blue energy" of the gate - remember what happened to some blue stars when the Isogen-5 was ignited? (see chronicles). I suspect these gates are going to take a lot of Isogen-5 to operate, and possibly this is the reason we are seeing more "covert" mining vessels (and an implication that this stuff is not going to be turbo-farmed like moon goo and roids). Super gate turns on and fleet blows up.......... Ok ccp, lets talk.... Remember the aoe titan..... remember why that was a BAD IDEA?.... Yah... give me a ship with 300km scanning, targeting and firing range first so I can poke that thing with a very long stick ...
Overall it looks great though, just makes no sense content wise. There is the talk on the forums about making gates but... They don't wipe out fleets. |

It was a EMP burst when the gate initially activated. Not really the same as drive by AE titans, plus it was probably just added in for effect. Which is what trailers are about, the shock and awe.
