Specs: Windows Home Premium 64 bit Intel Xeon E5520 @ 2.27GHz (x4 core) EVGA GTX 590 Classified 12GB RAM
My card and CPU are at normal temps when this happens, they aren't overheating. Just whenever the cloud of dust pops out of the data/relic container my comptuer shuts off. This doesn't happen when I play on lower graphics though, I think it may have something to do with GPU particles but I haven't tested it yet. I figured doing null hacking would be a decent way to pass time when nothing is happening in the WH but I can't if my computer crashes after every hack. A solution besides turning down my graphics would be preferred although I can live without GPU particles if that's the issue because they already give me FPS issues in combat sites with the stupid amount of cloud shaders. |

I'm pretty sure the card is refurbished, my dad convinced me to let his friend build the computer for me (never again) and I've been having nothing but issues with performance, overheating, and shutdowns. |

Right now, 335.23, however I still get this with older drivers that other people have claimed to work better. |

In that case it sounds to me like you've damaged one or more cards and chips on that thing by overheating it frequently. More than once or twice and the usability of the card is in question.
And there's nothing wrong with refurbished, or putting it together yourself, so long as your source isn't "your dad's friend". Entirely possible he overclocked something in there and didn't compensate with more powerful fans or heat sinks, too. Could be a number of things.
If your computer will deal with it with low graphics, just use that. EVE's graphics aren't why most of us play the game in the first place. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

It's overheated... at least 15-30 times on me... Maybe more? I've lost count honestly, but I read that it would shut down before it got hot enough to actually damage your card. I'm almost positive the card isn't overclocked because the guy who built it was telling me about how against it he is. |

Return or resell the card and get a reliable piece of hardware. A GTX770 will give the same average frame rate with more consistent results.
If I've learned one thing from a long time of dealing with computer hardware and custom builds, it's don't waste time dealing with shoddy hardware, even if it takes some time/money to deal with a return. I don't even think about it now. If a stock of RAM isn't working at the voltage it's meant to, or a hard drive is throwing a SMART error, back in the box! Not even worth the time to troubleshoot when good hardware is so easy to get. |

So I went and tested it in a data site and strangely enough it wasn't doing it this time, even when I put it on max settings. I do have a custom fan curve on though, and I pulled my GPU out and found some dust in the PCI slot that I wiped off with a dry paper towel, and dusted out the GPU with the remainder of compressed air that I had. Also did you know that data sites explode if you stay long enough after finishing? I didn't and it made me jump while typing this. |

Ghost Sites do that, not data sites, but yes.
I find it a good best practice to air blast any dust out of my machine every few months or so. Don't use a cloth or paper towel, you can damage them that way. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

I'm wondering if maybe it didn't overheat because it was a ghost site, I'm not sure but I think I remember relic sites have a lot of cloud effects in them, maybe that was heating my card to the point that the dust spew pushed the card over the edge, or maybe it was the fact that I had tightly packed dust in my PCI slot. |

I'll let you know straight up, those dust clouds are one of the biggest graphics-card melting things in the game.
And real life dust can cause issues, as can... cat hair. Possibly a combination of things. But if I were you I'd just dial down the particle effects.
And if you are really having such issues with the hardware, like mechtech said above, it's not worth ******* around with to troubleshoot it, hardware is pretty cheap these days. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

If your dads friend build it....and it overheats....tell him....
he can fix that easy....putting in more fans, changing the fan on the card or just switching GPU....
really....its easy if you know what you are doing...he just didn't stress-test the rig before giving it to you apparently. |

Can I still run 3 monitors using an HDMI and two DVI cables? I'm only gaming 1920x1080 but enjoy having the other two monitors for other applications so I don't have to constantly alt+tab.
