I don't play EVE for the graphics quality. I mean, the game doesn't even have sound for goodness sakes, shouldn't we add that first? "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

I think the fixed resolutions died with rendered 3d games.
Have you even tried? I mean it worked on my 16k monitor. Maybe you bought just a cheap model? |

"supported" ... no. Were forced to use... yes.
Texture is just the modern word for the same thing. Back then we just called them bitmaps. Sprites. Tiles. Fixed sizes. Good times.
But there's my language barrier, not sure how to interpret "supported" correctly. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4492860 Killmails for Wrecks!! Ganker tears, best tears! And how do I put text as links into signatures?? |

I read that probably wrong, as if it meant that game resolution dependency wasn't a thing anymore when these games were a thing.
And in the other part you misunderstood me.
A texture is a fancy word for a bitmap. Same for sprites, tiles, images, pictures. Independent of what you do with it, it's an image used to display graphics. A bitmap. A pile of bits that gets mapped onto the screen.
The c64, Amiga, NES and most other machines back then disagree regarding hardware having to offer support for the software. Software had to use what the hardware offered, which were a short range of fixed resolution tiles.
It's no fun argueing with you on my mobile, but I'm back earliest in 20min. :p
Not certain we're actually talking about computers of the same decades.

This was adressed during Fanfest (briefly as a side comment somewhere). The basic response was that while the high res textures exist, it's fairly complicated to get out to the public in the current process of releasing builds to players. To name a few issues CCP ran into:
1. High-res textures are big and .stuff files can only hold a limited amount of data (which presumably is smaller than the size of a single texture) so bundling the textures with the file system is not possible. That was my understanding of it anyway.
2. The current patching process does not support optional patches (which HD textures would be, obviously) and rolling it out as a mandatory one is not an option because it would be many GB's in size.
I believe there were some others but I forgot what they were. What it comes down to, CCP wants to make this possible but can't due to current technical limitations that are not very high on the priority list to solve. My YouTube Channel - EVE Tutorials & other game related things! |

OP was talking about textures, not window resolution. Two completely different things. Besides, I have all the settings at max yet the textures look minimalistic to say the least. When I look at the ship hangar I think of 640x480, not 8k. I have a 1920x1080 monitor (144 Hz). |
