I'm still a rookie after 47 days, so please forgive me. So much to learn. From time to time I've come across ships just floating around in space. Some in high sec, some in low sec. Haven't seen one in 0.0 yet.
Can these ships be claimed/salvaged by anyone? Can I take a shuttle out, board that ship, and fly it home without a sec hit, or Concord frying my butt?
I suspect i can't or they would've been salvaged by someone else.

If you can fly it, you can nick it.
You'll need to eject from your own ship first though and leave that behind, unless you arrive on the scene in your pod already. _______

A word of advice for when you leave a ship behind, self destruct the ship you're abandoning, or you've just left a calling card for the previous owner of the ship you just lifted.

Edited by: Mik Nostrebor on 23/05/2006 21:33:36 Why do people leave ships lying around in space? The number of reapers and shuttles I have seen floating around outside stations is incredible but I have never figured out why someone would do that.

a nice way to nick ships is just fly it back to whatever station is closest, get a shuttle and fly back to where you nicked that other ship, get back in your own ship and blow the shuttle. or self destruct it. either way, you lose nothing but a 9k shuttle. it is amazing what people leave around in space.
I found a rupture once. its a nice addition to the hanger.

Yeah and don't forget to make sure you have the skills to board the new ship or you could blow up your old ship and be stuck in space with just a pod.....

This must be done a good distance away, outside of docking range, to give you time to do the next step. 2. Bring up the eject pilot confirmation screen, but do not hit yes yet. 3. As soon as you hear the ships autopilot say "Docking Request Granted" hit the YES confirmation to eject.
Result, you are in your pod, in space, and the ship is in the station. If you think this is too risky or that it might go wrong, use a shuttle to do it. Just stop space littering.

A lot of people eject from these ships to self-destruct their pod so they can re-animate at another station and save travel time. ___________

Ahh, a form of 'death express'. Doesn't it cost money to make jump clones? Still, I suppose some people are rich enough to not worry about the cost.

Only costs a one-off fee of 100K to install a jump clone, but the hard part is getting the standing to install it.

I never realized how few people knew this. On the other hand, I rarely have to buy shuttles. (well, if I'm bored enough to clean them up)

I tried the 'eject while docking' move last night and it worked a treat :)))
Another little trick that I learnt in the last few days that I guess a bunch of people don't know is how to split stacked items. Really useful for traders and for putting the right ammo into a ship and leaving the rest behind. Click on a stack, hold down the shift key, click and drag stacked item to destination and release...it comes up and asks you how many to move! Hooray!

for all those who do abandon beginner ships or shuttle out in space. if you really don't want that ship. take it to a belt in .7 or lower space and abandon it there. then fly back to a base where you already have a ship. you won't get stuck with another new beginer ship that way and the rats will dispose of your abandon ship eventaully My alt hates me, I don't know why. he won't even talk to me anymore |
