Edited by: Varia Net on 23/05/2006 21:29:18 Posted before, but probably 100's threads more needed, to make the developers realize, that there are serious issues in their code.
I have no other application that causes crashes. F.E.A.R., Far Cry, DOOM, all run smoothly... So, definitely an EVE issue!
A simple trip home, on autopilot, could not be handled by the application and caused a crash.
CCP team, when you charge 15Ç per month, you can't deliver stuff of current quality. The game content is great, but the game performance is NOT ok.
I couldn't care less that this turret now needs no cap anymore, and that light precision missiles now do this or that damage...
as long as the game CRASHES!

well theres plenty of people here with the same CTD issues...
I have the same problem, no other game (I play a hell of a lot) or mmorpg has crash for me and I mean I'm getting hourly (well 3 last hour). Sure I get server disconnects but never a crash to desktop.
I tried the standard routes of upgrading drivers reinstalling game but alas nothing... but thats not what I'm angry out.
Tech support has just responded to my petition after 3 days informing me their bussy
"Hi
Due to the extreme load we are experiencing at Customer Support, we have not been able to answer your request. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you and we want to thank you for your patience. "
CTD is a known problem with this game, you might be ok but eve doesn't like something on some systems and we're not being told what.

I have the same problem for 2 days. After the dt before the patch everything went awol.
I crash each and every 2 minutes...sometimes even sooner when in space. I renamed the cache folder, but nothing happened. And this happens with all my characters. I mention i didnt change my hardware nor installed new software.
I hope the technical departament can give me an answer as i couldnt play the game for 2.5 days now.

any of you with the CTD issues using Soundblaster audigy sound cards? If so disable sound on your game. That should fix your issue. Been there and done that switched back to onboard sound because of it. My on board sound is a soundblaster live 24bit on this comp and realtech ac 97 on other compters in the house and no CTD problems with them most of the time I might get one ever 2-3 weeks.

Problem is NOT my computer, the problem is the way the EVE application uses the resources on my computer.
I seriously hope that merely your lack of knowledge made you post that. You're not a CCP official trying to donwplay the issue, are you?

I'm not getting any server disconnections, nor using a special soundcard.
My OS is fully updated. My McAfee SecurityCenter also is stable and up to date.

Edited by: Caine on 24/05/2006 22:52:14 I play with sound/effects disabled and it crashes
I'm starting to think it's something to do with the setting as I have a second client installed for my alt that doesn't crash (been running tests all day on it)... thats a straight copy of the main one that does.
I tried reinstalling but alwasy copied those settings over when I did so maybe thats the problem.
Totally the same except overview setting and bookmarks.

the same here since the last patch.... it actually just physically locks up while in the game. :(

I have had this deal-eo where (only happens with eve) my video just goes technicolor mashpotatos across desktop and system freezes.
Now i've considered it could be firmware (drivers are golden). now the system is slightly unorthodox, i run an Nvidea 256 outputting to 2 monitors w/ their 'dualview' mode (one desktop, 2 screens w/ seperate res. and shyt between the 2).
again only happens w/ eve. no matter if full-screen or window mode.... and here is the kicker..... Just opening (or leaving open) the log on screen can trigger it! Ideas? anyone else seen anything like this?

If you've supplied as much information here as you did to the tech support, I'm not suprised your waiting for a reply.
If you are just wanting to vent and rant to relieve the frustration, then thats all well and good. No problems.
If you actually want someone to give you a hand, things like machine specs, OS version, connection method and lists of what other software is running at the same time, especially pains such as macafee and norton, needs to be provided.
Personally, one thing I do not do with any significant internet games is try to play them whilst having an Anti-virus running. Firewall, yes, if you have'nt got a box between your machine and the net whilst using broadband. If your on dial-up, then you should'nt even need that, presuming your not trying to do anything else over the same connection.
Also, I'd second the recommendation not to use Creative sound cards when gaming. After one issue too many with them I switched back to using onboard sound several machines back and have had far less issues since then. |

Try to set your game to be compatible with ex. Win NT or anything else. That worked for me and I had some serious problems with crashes, bluescreen and funny looking gfx ingame. Worth a try tho. :)

I get CTDs over and over, and as for the issue being my hardware - No other game I play, and I mean NO Other game or application I play gives me any issue. I also had a CCP Tech try and tell me that my 300m/s ping was the problem.... Mind you, somehow I felt the pressing need to inform him that 1) I'm playing from Australia - which he should have noted from the IP addresses in the ping plotter samples i sent him and 2) That I'm a Network Administrator and that the occasional 10% loss of ICMP packets (PING / TRACERT) does NOT explain CTDs.
I'm getting absolutely sick of this lack of attention to an issue which is GAME BREAKING. The problem is your damned code CCP, incompatibilities with certain hardware etc and frankly I'm over your first level techies trying to tell us all that its us.
Secondly, for all of those players out there saying "I have no problems so it must be you" - you have NO idea what you're on about so stop making yourselves look like idiots and keep quiet.

I have been getting multiple CTDs ever since the RMR update. Before that I rarely, if ever, had the client just drop me from the game (apart from when there was the alt-tabbing bug).
There has been no change in hardware, my PC has been reformatted and had a new client has been installed. None of which cured the problem. Last time I checked I had a ping of 13-15 to the CCP servers.
The amount of different hardware configurations being used probably makes it a bit trickier to pinpoint the cause/s though. So I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

My set-up used to be pretty much rock solid. Since RMR and moving to 0.0 I get a CDT or disconnect at least once on every op I go on.
I don't use sound at all and try to stay windowed (seems to be better).
One thing I've noticed is that my network connection appears to fail (no DNS resolution, no pinging to local network hosts), it's as if something took out the NIC. If I disable and re-enable the NIC everything comes back. This problem appears to be seperate from the CDT issue though.
Any thoughts?
Oh, and DEVs, any chance of a Eve build with Symbols included so I can try to debug the next CDT?

Right on! I'm getting undending CTDs also, and also they tried to put that "It's your ISP's fault" explanation on me.
After fuming to them, they agreed to look more closely into the 30+ crash dumps I uploaded ver the course of two days.

New install, new customer, new game, latest drivers, etc. Crashes to desktop within 5 minutes. NO other game I play does this. Also was charged 19.95 for a *free trial* ?? WTF I'v canceled the account already after reading that so many people have identical issues - plus the bogus free trial. I'm going back to RYZOM ONLINE ... it has NEVER crashed

1. OS youÆre using. 2. Any hardware, Sound, HD, Graphics and any other add-on you have. 3. Firewall and Virus scanner 4. Version of all of the above. 5. Your ISP provider.
Please mark any unclear hardware with want it does.
Example
win xp home, version 2002, service pack 2 AMD athlon 1.04ghz 1gb RAM NVIDIA GeForce 5600XT, version 7.1.8.9 Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum, DR release 2.8.4 Network card: 3Com 3C920B-EMB Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller Router: Linksys 100mb lines from computer to network Virgin.net ISP
If anyone uses Steam exit the program. The last update does affect EVE.

Linksys router is firewall. Why would I need Norton when i don't get viruses? 4. Already there. 5. Charter Communnications 6. Do you have anything running in the background. No, I have turned off EVERYTHING... MSN Messenger, WB, all background and startup... EVERYTHING. 7. A list of what you did before the error. ROFL... just absolutely nothing... it usually happens when i'm sitting idle in a station, or fighting on a mission, coasting in space. There is not ONE thing that does it... it's anything.
Please mark any unclear hardware with want it does.
I have no idea what you mean by that.
If anyone uses Steam exit the program. The last update does affect EVE.
Steam is never running while playing Eve.
yes, i'm being nice, i'm actually really trying. it's frustrating because this problem didn't exist before 3910, at all, period. there was nothing installed after the patch that would cause it, there are no other issues. this is a server platform... i use it to run multiple Q4 servers, HL and Quakeworld servers all the time.
the really annoying thing is that everyone has a fix, ie: turn off your sound, lower your res, delete this and that cache folder.... but nothing works. i realize people are trying to help, but nothing works yet keeps getting posted. the real issue remains that submitting a bug report does nothing, does not get looked at or responded to.

Can you please be nice as the people posting are trying to help you even if their post doesn't fix your problem.
I am being nice to people...except the fanboys who just rant on with "It's not CCP's fault that you have crappy hardware!" type of stupid comments. I even saw a post where, after someone commented on reducing RAM speed and video card GPU speed, some clueless fanboy said that the hardware "couldn't handle EVE's graphics" - I mean, what idiotic response was that!
I'm getting increasingly frustrated, because I know THIS hardware is perfectly healthy. I Know that the software environent is healthy (considering it's Windows). How is it possible that a software program crash so damned often? And it really ticks me off 'cause I'm paying!
To all who have posted suggestions: Thanks, but alas, all has been tried. Nothing I do fixes the crashes. My only conclusion is that it is the software's fault. My subscription payment is coming on June 4th...if this thing keeps on crashing I won't renew.

Firstly thanks for posting your setups. ItÆs much more helpful than just the useful than it don't work. Also including what you have tried stopped me from adding those ones.
I think you may both have had a bad patch you need to reinstall eve. Rename the ccp folder and download the Client and updates. See if this fixes your problem. Sometime the patch server goes wrong when it downloading lots of updates. ItÆs not the way your running your computer as you can use other online games.
I fully understand youÆre ****ed off over the problems and the fan boys saying your computer is crap is as helpful as a chocolate teapot.
The be nice part was because some users who I helped in the pasted were not nice when their problem was not magically fixed. It kind of made me not help people. Hell if I wanted to abused I would have gone to work. There I get paid for it. It is harder for anyone to fix problems when not are not on site.
Hope this helps you out.
Good luck.

annab, here's what i did per your reply:
first try: renamed ccp folder / reinstalled older version of eve, patched via the game update ingame. crashed within 5 min.
second try: renamed that folder / reinstalled full version of 3910 from eve-online website. crashed within 1 hour.
third try: completely deleted all folders. did complete uninstall from the uninstall.exe file. reinstalled 3910 w/ EVE_3910.exe file from eve-online website. played for about 5 1/2 hours, was just about thinking it was going to remain stable... then it crashed. hehehe.
oh well. thanks very much for the assistance, annab. hopefully something good will come out of it. :) if anything i have the EVE_3910.exe on my desktop, and can uninstall / reinstall everytime i would like to get a good 5 hours out of the gameplay (if that will remain constant).
gotta love it ;)

For problems with crash to desktop using dual core, read:-
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=309096
Sometimes the answer is so obscure people try to ignore it, dual core is newish technology, it doesn't work too well on some setups of Eve, its not the clients fault, but it is a fault.

You know, I keep seeing this over and over as a possible solution...which really is total 100% B.S. I assume it works for people, I dont know I havent ever had any problems with sound. This is generally associated with Creative Lab's sound cards, from what I have seen. Creative Lab's isnt exactly some cheapo-budget crap.
Everytime I see this I simply cant believe that people are so willing to accept such a "solution". Its like taking your car to a mechanic, and him telling you your car will run fine without tires.

There were 4 issues I have been able to identify with my Eve playing experience that caused my PC to crash.
1st issue has been the sound. I used to blue screen crash/lockup ALOT when I had sound enabled in the game. Once I disabled it, I no longer blue screened. If you are getting blue screens, disable sound. That will fix the bluescreen crashes. ( I have onboard AC97 sound on my motherboard - others have pci sound cards - DISABLE YOUR SOUND IF YOU HAVE BLUE SCREEN CRASHES )
2nd issue seems to have been fixed by CCP. This was the blackscreen crash/lockup. I believe this was due to some mistake in portrait rendering. For me at least, this issue has been resolved.
3rd issue was a complete reboot of the PC. No CTD, just reboot in the middle of gaming for no apparant reason. I believe I have tracked this issue down to my 'version' of windows XP. I reinstalled my OS so many times, but always with the same cd of XP. Once I... borrowed... another version of XP... for testing purposes only mind you ... , I havn't had this type of crash one time since. Get yourself another 'version' of XP. This should take care of the 'PC reboot in mid game' issue.
4th issue that someone else mentioned was where the screen went all sorts of different colors, you couldn't see anything, and the pc locked up. I just had this issue myself. Turns out it was my GFX card getting too hot. I have a ATI All-in-Wonder 9800. The stock fan was fine for a long time, but either its underperforming now, or the card is getting hotter due to summer here in the USA.( the heat sink was uncomfotably hot ) I took off the old fan and attached a more powerfull, oversized fan with zip ties to the heat sink seeing how the fan was bigger than the heat sink. That solved that issue even with 2 clients running at once.
There are probably other issues that people are having I havn't come accross myself. But once I took care of the 1st and 3rd issues with the 2nd issue not being something I did anything about, and then the 4th issue, I havn't had any trouble with my eve client.
I hope this helps some of you still having trouble.
Its aggravating not being able to play a game your addicted to. I've come close to tossing my PC under my 4X4 truck and running back and forth over it a few times because I was sooo.... aggravated

I'm having the crash to reboot issue myself, what version of windows am I to look for? Is it a service pack 2 issue? Should I look for an older version?
