I have a 9800 pro, Having try various drivers to get EVE to work, i have found that old versions work best with Eve. New Versions of Ati drivers, seem to have conflict problems.. Eve will load the first screen, then the second password screen is black.. the desktop area works fine..
Has anyone else found similar problems, and what workaround have you used..

Edited by: HighTide on 23/09/2003 10:11:35 Hi,
I have the ati 9700pro and have to roll back my drivers to version CATALYST Windows XP 2.5 to get Eve to work.
Also Ati CATALYST Windows XP drivers are 3.7 tut tut....
My Other games are ok with CATALYST Windows XP 3.7 why not Eve?? Its a shame as this is annoying me so much i might stop playing eve...

Edited by: Cermanus on 23/09/2003 12:17:28 Is your CPU or GPU overclocked? Knocking the O/C down a bit can help. I have a 9800 pro and have recently changed my mobo from the VIA KT333 based EPOX 8k3a+ to the NForce2 based Abit NF7-S v2. On both I have been running my xp2600+ at 2500mhz. This caused no problems on the 8k3a+ but has caused CTD's on the NF7-S unless I drop the CPU down to 2400mhz. Also I have been running my 9800 pro at 450 core 780 ram with no problems on everything other than Eve. I have found that dropping down to 400/750 in Eve. This has resulted in a problem free Eve for me (game related bugs not included ) hopefully it will help you.

I am using a amd 3000xp with Asus A7N8X (not the delux one) mobo with a 9700 pro radeon, yeah Eve has always caused me grief for one reason or another who knows why, I found too older CAT drivers were better for Eve and only EVE, 2 Series were all good, I have been using 3.7 now but am getting locks up and odd behaviour again so i may go back to version 2 drivers again. I am O/C at mom so will drop that back down to normal clocking. I am using Win2k btw, same behaviour also applies in winxp but the crashes are more 'polite'

Its true DO NOT RUN EVE with the new ATI 3.7 drivers. They will make it impossible for you to start the game afterwards. Every damn Game i have works with those drivers just not EVE ... its a shame.

Iam using a amd 2400xp 512mb ddr with Asus A7N8X delux one mobo with a 9800 non pro radeon in a non overclocked config and using cat 3.7. Eve runs without a problem. I dont think there is a problem with the drivers. It also worked ok with cat 3.6.

I'm using 3.7 also, I'va seen the problem you refer to, but it's intermitant and only very ocasional. it might be driver related, I'll have to confess that I never saw this before I updated, but it's not the be all and end all.
by CPU is not overclocked, but the whole system is very well cooled so I suppose it could be some kind of overheating issue in some 9800's, but I suspect it would have been reported arround the place is there were issues with the 9800.

I have an ATI radeon 9800 Pro, just updated to latest catalyst, and NO PROBLEMS :D
None whatsoever.. a slight delay in entering from character-screen into game, but that was it.
So I'm happy. Never had a problem with any game yet.. Who says ati drivers or compatibility sucks? not I :)

I have a Radeon 9800 with 3.7 drivers and I dont have any problems with it. I did however have a problem with Eve crashing before the EULA agreement, after patching from CD, but fixed this by chaning the compatability mode to Win98/NT.

I'm running 9700pro, and 2600+ and a7n8x. I ran the cat 3.7's without a problem. I'm running the omega 3.7's now though. No driver trouble to report on my end.
I have a fiend who just bought a 9600pro and had troubles with it (lockups and such). When he updated his mobo bios and reinstalled the vid drivers his machine became stable. He is using a mobo with a VIA chipset.

Edited by: nonsequitur on 01/10/2003 10:22:11 It might be possible to get some "Tweaked" drivers for ATI cards. It may (or may not) fix your issues.
you can get the Omega ATI drivers here.
www.omegacorner.com
follow the links on the site to get the drivers and instructions you need for your OS and Vid-card. *edit -- driver version (2.4.78a) is based on the Catalyst 3.7 drivers
I just ordered my new video card (ATI 9800 Pro) it will arrive here in about 6hrs. Ive got 3.7 downloaded for install with the new card. I'm currently using CAT 3.6 with my ATI 8500 and have only occasionally suffered a BSOD due to ATI driver issues (2 total since Beta7). I'll post my results after I get the new card installed later this afternoon.

Well I am getting regular CTD's everytime I play Eve. I have re-installed game and drivers all to no avail. Pretty frustrating
Sys: Amd 3200+ Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mobo, Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro, 1.5Gig DDR RAM, Audigy2 Soundcard.
I've tried everything, even the tweaked drivers and earlier ones and I still get the crashes. The game runs beautifully apart from the CTD.
