It will be in kali one, and details are almost certainly uncertain as of yet.

since when have facts ever stood in the way of ccp's development process?
edit: and from what's been stated, reverse engineering consists of running around "interacting with the environment" in the hope of getting hold "researching" a t2 bpc.
lets just say I'm not holding my breath.

Quote: Each corp takes their new T2 small pulse laser to market. OH, for those of you that did not known, This is how T2 items were supposed to be introduced. Think about what the Dev blog said about not being able to wait to fly our ships, no 2 corps will create the same exact item. If you RE a Punisher and I RE a punisher and I also ôPrototypeö for drone bays then your punisher may have better speed and buff lasers but mine will could carry 2 drones and have more cpu.
Now before those people with current T2 mess their drawers because the T2 versions we will RE might (actually should) be better versions they need to keep in mind the players going the RE route Will have invested a heck of a lot of time into RE.
Quote: An ôExplorerö class and also ôReverse Engineeringö skills which will allow players to actually modify ships. ôIÆd like to have a player improved ship myself.ö Said Magnus with an anticipatory gleam in his eyes. Timeline for release û 2nd stage.
Basically the way it was planed was that RE creates BPOs.
It also looks like the DEVs have found another way to buff the Prat welfare program
Quote: Next-gen Research & Development We're opening up this aspect of EVE with Reverse Engineering and Invention, enabling you to create Tech II blueprint copies by gathering knowledge and technology through various means, such as exploration
The skills requirements are already restrictive, can you imagine if they require the science avatar to personally gather anything in low sec.

Reverse engineering will be several items for 1 run bpc.. I.E. 10 cap recharger2's = a 1run bpc

Edited by: Ithildin on 24/05/2006 20:32:02 Most probably you'll be able to use items as blueprints. Not unlikely that you'll be looking at the Reverse Engineering skill to say something like "-5% wastage factor when reverse engineering" while the wastage factor (mineral and component multiplier) on items will most likely be somewhere in the region of 1.5 (i.e. at level 5 RE skill you'd be wasting 25% minerals producing on an item instead of on a blueprint)
I'm also predicting that meta items (aka named items), faction items and officer items will produce standard T1 items.
As an example, the build cost of a Damnation is close to 70 million. If you reverse engineered a Damnation with current prices on minerals and components you'd be looking at around 87.5 million to 101.5 million ISK item cost depending on your skill level
EDIT: This IS pure speculations New sig coming soonÖ Drone musing (MC-boards) |

so basically what you are suggesting is less effective efficiency but a person would be able to construct thier own items ,
interesting...that makes more sense

The exploration part is what I'm wondering about. I mean if you need to scour the four corners of 0.0, then it would be cheaper to just buy it at current prices than run a gauntlet of enemy fleets.
I mean one doesn't simply walk into Mordor......

Why would you want RE to work that way?
RE will require an item, the item will be destroyed in the process. The new BPO item will be better or worse than the same item REd by another. IF they restore prototyping you will not only RE but design so be able to add stuff to the original. This is all that has been brought forward from the original RE plans. (as far as we have been told)

Actualy the way the devs as described it the change in cost or mats is because the Damn thats RE will have diffrent aspects. And don't forget that in order to RE a damn you have to supply one. RE will not be off BPs but off Items.

That I may shoot you if you enter my home does not mean that I dont want to sell your those nice items that you need to build me a HACs.
Btw. we know what was planed for RE when the gathering in Las Vegas was hold. The devs told us that you take a tec 1 item add some new fancy stuff and get a tec 2 BPC with a low PE.

Alooooooooooong time ago the idea was descriobed as you have item x and a % chance of a limited run bpc would be spit out.

Say do you have a link to that? I have not been able to find it and the only reasion I came back to EVE was for reverse (to train all the skills needed)So I have been tring to gleen evey thing I can about it.

Can't wait til reverse engineering gets here. Finally get some cheap assault cruisers instead of the ones going for over two hundred million ISK now. ___________________

Edited by: Roue on 25/05/2006 23:40:19 Can almost garauntee RE will work simply. It will be, as we were told, linked to hacking.
You will purchase an item. Put it in a lab slot and produce at a slow speed (probably worse then normal Bpc) a 1run bpc of poor quality every time. Basically using the item as a BPO for BPC production.
THis will affect two things.
Firstly: Items with tremendous profit margins due to overdemand.
Item costs 10mil to build off a bpo. Item sells for 110mil because of 5x demand over supply. Item can be built for 30mil cost by RE process.
So a corp buys the item at 110mil. That's their overhead. They then produce the item and sell it. 80mil instead of 100mil profit.
During the process of their selling the also devalue their investment and their product as they feed the supply. But with care they should be able to close the profit range to match the demand/supply balance and cover the cost of that initial overly inflated item purchase.
Of course, every location will be it's own market. And some people will over produce stuff like HACs and break prices. But T2 bpo owners will probably be producing still as they will have great margins regardless.
Secondly: Items not available.
The current production of some bpo's just doesn't even happen. People aren't bothered because it's not "Worth it" so it doesn't get distributed and people don't bother.
Here the product is already cheap. So you just buy one, and produce them and sell them in markets that might pull in small amounts. Here you would use RE to invest into a myriad selection of t2 items and fill markets with a dozen or so of each type. Producing soley on a need by basis.
Either way it's a win for the consumer. As there will be plenty of profit out there to entice over production of certain things like HACs

ah yes, and while your finaly able to buy your now obsolete T2 Assult cruiser that only costs 20% more than its T1 counterpart, the people able to toss 100-300m at a ship will be flying around in T2.5 custom modified Heavy assult cruisers with bright shiny jangles and better Partical efects on the weapon fire.
Its the reality of how theis games work, they have to keep giving you new biger and theirfore more expensive Toys to play with, Why the heck do you think they put in T-2 in the first place. Eventualy we will be at the point where you will be flying frigs that could solo a Jovian armada
