I know this is not EVE related but about gaming anyway.
I love EVE but in 7 days I'm looking forward to the release of Half-Life 2 via Steam.
I loved the game back in 1998 and I'm sure it will be great this time around. Looks like I will be busy between EVE and HL2.
Before any of you says "it has been delayed", it has not. There has been no official word from Valve except for the September 30th release. It looks like the Steam release will come as scheduled followed with a "Boxed" release 1-2 weeks after.
Anyhow, just wondering who else is looking forward to this game. My time has room for both HL2 and EVE that's for sure.

You will be able to preorder or buy HL2 via Steam. It allows you to download the game instead of having to go out there and get the box. It also allows them to do a global release instead of the month's it takes to bring the game to different regional markets.

Here's a quote from it...
EXCLUSIVE: RETAIL CONFIRMS HALF-LIFE 2 SLIP!
Valve assurances looking shaky as UK retail informs of a late October release
19:28 Information received via e-mail from UK retailer GAME by customers who have pre-ordered Half-Life 2 at its online store has thrown a rather large spanner into the HL2 release date works, we can reveal. Despite Valve Software's Doug Lombardi insisting: "The release date is unchanged" when we questioned last week whether Half-Life 2 would hit its original September 30 deadline, GAME has recently told its customers that the title will not arrive until November.
Hopefully this is just GAME not getting copies and that the game will still release on steam

So you d/l from steam... and?? it saves to a file...thing.... This seems, eh.. fishy to me.
What if your d/l crashes in the middle of the D/Ling (you payed for).
Seems... Well I dunno, just does not seem right to me. Also can you say Hard drive crash? Best put it on a CD as well.
Just wait and see i guess :) All of my corp mates are looking forward to this game (we were a NS clan).
Can't wait :)

I'm really looking forward to HL2..... can't wait!
Luckily, I have two computers (although I tell my wife it's her's) so I'll be miner on one, and a killing machine o'death on the other....
but I'm not holding my breath... I've been around long enough to know that the Official release date is the ONLY date that a game won't be released.

LOL HL2 needs top of the line PC to run!! and i mean that... it will be the next big benchmark thing
so if you think you can play same FPS or a fraction of HL/CS which is like based on quake2 engine you got something else coming to you
btw its single player i dont know how the multi player will be...
and nobody knows how good some of the AI is.... as there were debats about them scripting some stuff because there was no way the AI could know some of the things
if its all eye candy then who gives a rats azz... but if it got everything then ya its great game and next big hit in FPS support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

Sheesh!
The only game who can make ppl quit EVE isnt out yet, its called X-Online, and it will take some years to complete. After a few years of playing all FPS became boring, no matter how much eye candy they now have in them. If the devs finaly make it, with all the new features, EVE will make HL2 look boring. Not even WOW wont make it for me, same ole boring wizards vs monsters vs wizards.

I'm not waiting for HL2 but the game I've been waiting for happens to be also a Sierra game with the very initials HW2. It is already here, at least starting a few days ago. I already got one myself.
Of course that is Homeworld 2 by Relic.
At least HW2 should be good for playing through EVE downtimes.

The only real difference from HW1 is that now they got some stationary turrets and the new harvesters look like little flies who feed from the sh.. rofl!

LOL
Also the new UI looks like a java applet and is supposed to make the controls easier, yet it doesnt change its size when you resize from 1024x768 (default UI) to lets say to 1600x1200. I would preffer HW1 since its lighter on the textures and can be run windowed with some other games..like EVE! lol

I don't know. I spent 2.5 years completely hooked on Counter Strike ever since the mod first came out. That game was the worst ***** ever. Seemed to loose its appeal after 1.2 and all the cheating.
Definately hate the fact you can't jump around like you used to in it and stuff. Used to be able to run just about every map backwards perfectly .
Playing CS again would be like falling off the wagon and starting up a bad drug habbit .

Well first clue that HL2 is coming out Sept 30th is that ATI is releasing its new 9800XT bundled with the game on Sept 30th.

you konw what they might do?
give you steam and an account for steam... and whenver HL2 comes out you get online and d/l it LOL it could be like that.... so ya they could sell there video cards with it but it might not be out, though hehe
btw steam works ok i guess i used it a bit only... you get account and you can d/l re d/l the games etc...
btw CS2 is hmm not even sure if that will make it.. CS is going to use some condition zero stuff which is a beafed up HL1 engine and stuff LOL...
its like more textures and same stuff
just cause HL2 doent mean CS2... and who knows it will take a long time before the SDK will come out... unless HL2 like makes CS2 and sells it apart from or combo with HL2....
BUT FOR MODS you need SDK support Idea: QuickInfo an alternative to ShowInfo

I feel for you Wretch
Mr Pops I think I spoted a news thread somewhere that Microsoft agreed to have HL2 as the new benchmark tool for the DX9+. So it must be the first full dx9 game that gets released. Im courrius about how they will use the new dx9 for the space genre, already X2 looks great eye candy.

I read similar news. I got so excited to swing the trusty old crowbar again, I forgot I still use a GF3 so running HL2 will suck and I won't be able to fully enjoy the DX9 features.
We should start a fund for people that don't have the cash to buy a new VID card. (ATI 9800 pro preferably) We could send each other 1 dollar in some type of pyramid scheme until we all have 300 bucks to plunk down.

Got the 9700 after my GF3 was burned (overclocker freak), when with an ATI remember to always put all gfx card UI settings to max and your system memory allocated to the fullest for the ATI, it always makes all games run smoother (instead of slower than in most gfx types) and you get a crystal clear image too. Its odd why it does that, but hey!
I love those cards
