Edited by: Devil Mann on 23/09/2003 03:57:00 Ok...
Im assuming that CCP will already be working on an expansion as i type...(of course eve needs more work but i wont delve into that just now)
So what does anyone think theyll put into an expansion...Or what do you want to see added
Well for me if im going to have to shell out more cash (and lets face it itd better be worth it) Id want to see an Expanded Eve universe where we can leave our ships and explore stations or planets...Expansion could start off by letting us build our own moving 3d character avatar (based round our own Pics already) Instation casinos, bars, entertainment, Maybe even see our agents face to face, expanded uses of repair shops and buying and selling(different places EG blackmarket regions in stations)
Also a crew feature added to game where you could choose different crews with different skills etc for more individual ships.
Access to Space Junkyards for new salvaging(a variant on mining) with new drones and Salvage lasers and sweepers...
Also an expansion could include an Anti-CTD software(joke)
I probably got loads of ideas but i cant think....tired......so add away guys
 ===============================================
Damn roid respawns,CTDS,Stuck systems,lost items,stuck in warp,friends list,broken map(insert more here after patch)... |

Unclassified in-house dev animation
We created an animation sequence that we used in-house to roughly visualize how the new deployable and anchorable player owned constructions work. You can see it here. Note that this is subject to change ( it actually has changed when this is written) , it is more to give you an idea of where we are headed.

Umm,,,ccp seems to be having trouble implementing a patch without 100 things backfiring. What makes you think they can pull off an expansion?

Sorry, that's a really bad assumption. This isn't SOE we're talking about here.

EVE doesn't have a DEV team of a few hundred working on the retail of the game. And a live team of a hundred working on expansions and stuff after the release.

I wouldn't look for any expansion anytime soon....
An expansion to a MMORPG is a difficult beast. And difficult to implement. On one hand you have to have the resources to build and test it.. that means basically a duplication of the servers for staging and live dev. And unless this version really takes off, it's not going to happen.
And if this game really takes off, then that will mean they've fixed 99% of the issues and built up the player base to a much greater number, and thus, the expansion would be worth buying.
Personally, I'm a bit concerned. I don't remember any game getting discounted to $19.99 as fast as EVE...
I wish them the best. |

Expansion? A HUGE patch with new features? Maybe on CD, and to pay extra money for that huge patch? I'm rather negative to the thought atm, but if(when) CCP fix the bugs, then i'll be ok with it.
But it's not rally so important atm, we need a patch, and server stability right now :)
If your not a part of the solution, then you'r probably a part of the problem. |

I like that thing about crews...
In early dev chats (before alpha/beta started) the devs said that crews would be an important thing. If you don't have enough crew your ship won't work as good as with full crew, etc.
It would be cool if you could hire a crew, and then as you used your ship the crew would get better, and better as the time passed. That would add a point to keeping a ship, and not losing it. If mean, who cares if their cruiser blows up? I wouldn't even care if my battleship blew up thanks to my insurance :)
But they better add stuff like player owned stations first ;)
Actually CCP isn't as small as many of you seem to think.
They have 17 programmers, 10 persons working with the graphics, 7 working with the game design, 8 for QA.
Though I hope that they'll wait with an expansion at least one year..maybe next Christmas would be a nice time for an expansion.
This is my signature. |

LOL...
Expansions? Oh Amen I'd love one... but eh... Even assuming EVE was polished finished ( in terms of missing features, not so much patching of course) and making gobs of money, it would STILL be a year or more of developement unless they plan on just expanding space, and adding some new modules and stuff.
As much as I woulkd cry with extreme joy at the sight of character actually walking around and stuff, I don't foresee that happening before 2005...
You have to figure they need to make a brand new engine to support that, somehow integrate it with the current engine and much much more(from what I know of the subject it's a nightmare to combine engines).
So lets be realistic here... Like I said, FPS view would OWN! But it's not likely, Maybe in EVE II... If EVE I even makes it off the ground at this point.
What would be likely?
A graphics tune up to match it with the current games of the future... Sure right now it's top notch... but in 2 years? Look how far we camew in the last two years with game graphics alone... Nuff said.
More ships: like, a LOT more, the only probably problem with new ships though is it might mean the patch for regular EVe players the day the expansion comes out might be very very big, as they will need to DL the new ships...
More skills
More skill levels.
More systems.
More things to do in systems...
Super tough places to conqure that normal newbs won't be able to do till thie rcorp owns at least one titan or something horrifically major like that. (Epic level dungeons to borrow the term from other MMORPG)
Crews, New modules, New control interfaces, New ways to do old things... ETC ETC.
All that stuff is pretty easy/possible and doesn't really require so much of a rewrite of the old code, or the creation of an entirely new engine...
The problem however is this... Expansions are meant to contain stuff that only owners of the Expansion can experience...
Some things need to be accessable to the basic game owners, and some things need to be available only to expansioned players.
Some things like ships will be hard to deal with, would CCP make a rule in the game that expansion players can't Sell X ships to Non expanded players period? Or if they do would it show up with some default graphic?
What about Crews, would that be a feature that could be used between versions? Or would it be a expansion only feature?
And if so would it then have any potential penalties involved like we would want? (For example it's not a good idea to have an expansion contain stuff that hurts the expanded players, like a gun that shoots the owner would be stupid for example LOL, so Crews that can have negative effects that are STANDARD features of all expanded players ships, could be bad).
So really there is a lot to think about...
Some wishes for the expansion are just not going to happen, at least not for expansion #1... thats for damn sure. MAYBE (and I say that with some doubt), MAYBE in expansion #2 we might see First person perspective aspects, but don't count on it...

Scam I agree, CCP Better not be working on an addon while the orriginal is bursting at the seams with brand new bugs, and rehashes of old ones, but isn't it fun to daydream a little?
I think it is.

First were do you get the idea for an expansion? CCP have to deliver what they have promised in this EVE first...

New ship classes would be nice, such as an agile short range Fighter class (think armed shuttle/manned combat drone hybrid)that could be used in conjunction some sort of carrier class of ships (could be a modified titan class). Would probably be easier to incorporate for people without the expansion if it used exsisting models with slight modifications.

Edited by: undercover on 23/09/2003 12:02:00 The expansion I would like is an increase in the amount of systems by at least double the current number.
Space is supposed to be vast - so why do i keep bumping into people.
Looking at the map and seeing jumps for the last xxx - show that most if not all visitable systems have been visited. If it's "crowded" now what will it be like with 1,000 more people.

Generally curious, WTF is the big hang up with some people and wanting FPS POV in this game? How would it rule? How would it add to the game play or the storyline? Do you want to see the goo you float in all day long? Do you want a market interface like the one they have in E&B? Waiting in line at a koisk? (shudders). How much fun would a station be with 75 people walking around in it showing off their emote macros? (I play the air guitar to show my excitement)
I just don't understand why, and before someone goes off on Walking around on planets or in stations; this question is all based on the CURRENT FORM OF PLAY and without the hypothesized planet or station enviroment (of which there is none and hopefully never will be).
Anyone?
(oi: expansion - bad idea)

Expansion? Ha! Best joke today, CCP better start fix all MAJOR-HUGE bugs that already exist in the original Eve, then they can start thinking of an expansion..

There are a couple of expansions already built in. For example, there are the two galactic regions that no one can travel to.. Jove space and one other. Who knows what all is out there =P

Probably the only good idea you had and easy to implement. Ships could have crew slots just like high med and low slots.
The slots would not represent your entire crew just some special dudes you recruit. Bigger ships would have more slots. None on a frigate, one or two on a cruiser maybe two or three on a battleship.
The crew would give bonuses to the crewmans area of expertise. Maybe a hot-shot pilot would add speed and agility. Some engineer guy could squeeze out a little more cap power and armor. Tactical officer could add a little range and damge to weapons. A science officer could add to shields sensor and ecm.. etc....
Crew bonuses of the same type should NEVER stack. You would assume that hot shot tactical offer knows the same tricks as the other hot shot tactical officer and therefore more than one of the same type would be of no value.
Ayway with the way Eve seems to work this looks like it would be very easy to add.
Hey.. I think this needs to move into the idea lab.
