Today someone tried to ransom my hauler with no threat of violence at all. Im travelling through Lumiaire and slow boating to the gate (high sec here) when these local fools keep bumping my hauler off the gate with cruisers and demanded 40 mill for passage. Claimed they were protecting the trade routes (err wtf I dont have any cargo) Told em to go to hell. One of the locals gangs me and we do an insta- apparently he is tired of local filling up with the chat about these fools.
Lamest thing I seen in this game in a long time. If this is what piracy is sinking to them I gotta say I'm dissapointed. Piracy is (mainly) for lowsec where the threat of violence for nonpayment / co-operation is real and thus an incentive.

bumping as a means of warfare in high sec is against the EULA, prolly won't ban them first time, but tell them to stop, they keep doing it and another person sends pettion, BAN STICK TIME.

If I recall correctly, repeated bumping is allowed in a situation where they would also be able to shoot you without CONCORD/Sentry gun interference, but not in a situation like this where they can't.

These must be the WoW-Pirates.
Guess they don't want to lose sec-status or a ship, but still harrass the empire folks. They probably don't have the brains to use "gang the war-alt" trick to be able to shoot the target.
Still the image is pretty funny of a gang of cruisers MWD'ing into a frieghter screaming "omg pay us!"

yup it is, classed as griefing I believe. A group of people got moved alot of jumps and reciebed a warning for doing it not so long ago.
tbh in an isolated case its funny and not really problomatic, but on a larger scale it would become a real issue for whining.
So ccp preventing whining by banning 'pirates' that are too cowardly to shoot gets a big thumbs up from Mr. T

What if they destroyed your ship would you come to forums and cry about that also !
My guess is they are noob pirates but they will overtake you in thios game and then kill you, next it will be a raven and it won't say 40 millions. It will scan your cargo then it will pop you in one volley cos your stupid enough to fly expensive stuff in a T1 hauler, then you will cry here again and no one will care oh and a little pre Boohoo for you .

Theres always one isn't there. Lemming Merangue is my alt and also an empire hauling character for me. I'm currently a member of Apocalypse Enterprises. a medium sized priate corp operating out of Aridia. (sorry my sec is positive atm because I've been chaining rats for Isk)
Piracy to me usually involves blowing pilots up in belts or at gates / stations or ransoming at the business end of a 720 artillery cannon. Ransoming at the business end of a 10MN MWD is really poor quality piracy. Shows a lack of dedication to the profession. Pretty poor for a couple of 9 months-ish pilots
Now LittleTerror what where you saying again?
Oh and FWIW it was a Badger Mk2 with no cargo and worth about 1.5 mill isk if you count the mods. Clone even less than that. So no if they had ganked me I would laugh myself sick because there cruisers would be worth a lot more and be insta-ganked by Concord.

If they're in a PC corp, you can dec them, or pay others to do it.
You can't if they're in an npc corp ofc, but the whole npc corp system is flawed imo. Whether you bump ppl all day or trade / move stuff for your main in a freighter while sitting in an npc corp matters little to me.

I have also ransomed without violence before. Payouts without violence are usually crap. Ransomed some cruisers for 500k. With violence, you can easily get about 2M or more for a cruiser.

I ransomed an industrial in a .7 system once while in a shuttle.
I wasn't bumping or anything, I was simply bored since i was waiting for somebody and was targeting everything. The pilot convo'd me and as a reflex i started ransoming him
Got 2 mil out of it.

When tundragon and teddys first hooked up we went on a wee rampage through empire, after a few days Zarquon gets a convo from a guy in pure blind asking if he could pass through ewok in his bs and promptly paid Zarq a fee for safe passage

Pirating can take place in many forms. I know someone with a screenshot of his ransoming a covetor in a harpy with only a warp scrambler fitted, no guns or other modules what so ever. obviously never fired a shot. that i thought was hilarious.
And bumping at gates isn't really a new thing. kinda boring to just bump haulers for ages but hey, each to their own.
