This is a great keyboard for Eve. It helps with your reaction time when you need it I wished CCP would support the LCD as there is a lot of information that would be useful to display there. I can tell you that it works great with TS so you can see who is speaking if you have the TS window minimized. Come on CCP, support the LCD!

Edit. It's not the Logitech V250.
Found it: Saitech Command Unit Think I'll gonna get me that one
Saitech makes pretty crappy gear. In general. I haven't tried the command unit. But their joysticks are crap.
There are a few other "left hand input" devices out there. A few very good ones.

wow... game inchacing keyboards... 12 button mouse... foot pedals... 3 button keys... headsets... I never though Eve would turn into another Unreal... but I guess it can.
All the advantages in PVP... its no longer the skilled player.... its whoever has the best enhancing devices.

Edited by: Orree on 21/07/2006 21:14:10 I've had a G15 for about 10 months now and I've really enjoyed it.
I mainly got it because I play EVE in a pretty dark room and the lighted keys really help. I chose the G15 over other lighted keyboards mainly because it had the extra features of the LCD and programmable, keys, I it took me about 9 months to get around to doing anything with them.
Someone in my corp turned me onto the G15 TeamSpeak applet that allows you see see TS information on the keyboard LCD. That has been a godsend. I no longer have the minimize to see who is speaking..who is leaving and joining the channel, how many are in-channel, etc. That one little applet makes the price of the keyboard worht it to me, and yet it has so much other functionality that I haven't even tapped.
I don't think PvP in EVE will ever be about who has the best of these enhancements. Too much is still mouse driven and it still really boils down to a given situation and whether you have the right ship, set up correctly and whether you know how to use it. No keyboard is going to do that for you. PvP in EVE requires a certain amount of nerve, as well. No keyboard is going to give you more of that, either.

No running programs really needed, there is a program called logitech G-series Keyboard profiler that follows with the keyboard where you put in the keystrokes if you like or import profiles from others maybe. More than that there is nothing... ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

Technically, the Logitech Keyboard Profiler is a program running in the background that makes the G keys work. For the LCD, you either need a seperate applet to make it do something (a few come supplied) or run a software that supports it directly (Civ 4, FRAPS, Ventrillo beta version). --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

G15 is invaluable for FCs or gang leaders because there is direct or add-on support for both Ventrilo (direct) and Teamspeak (plugin, free), which allows you to ALWAYS see who is speaking, and who has joined/left channel, at a glance, on a very legible backlighted LCD on top of your keyboard.

Edited by: Benco97 on 23/07/2006 01:21:39 My keyboard is actually awesome, it's beige and has no special functions and no lights or anything and it's really old and it's not USB and it's dirty and it's actually worn down in places from years of use but the thing that makes it REALLY cool? I set it on fire sometimes while i'm typing and now it looks the dogs' while i'm fighting, it's pockmarked with weapon-fire.
*edit* - Set it on fire with a lighter... not from frantically typing..

Belkin also has the Nostromo Speedpad 52. I have one and it works great. Takes a little more setup than the G15 since you can't program keys on the fly. Has 4 shift states so each key can be bound to 4 different functions. Fairly cheap also

What about software solutions? You cannot really macro a LCD, but remapping keys etc takes minutes.

The g15 has a "quick macro" button. Hit that, hit the G key you want remapped, hit the buttons you want, hit quick macro again, and you're done. Quite handy for simple tasks.
Honestly the feature I use the most on the G15 is the countdown timer/stopwatch. Handy for timing repetitive cycles of things.

Been using the g-15 for about a year with different games. However, I just started using the G keys in Eve. It's kind've rejuvenated my wanting to run missions. I absolutely love being able to insta-pop small ships with the touch of a single button... (i.e. bind all my med guns to one button)
Also, for you developer types who have this keyboard, check out www.g15forums.com.

i¦m glad to read that g15 makros are tolerated in eve!
i got mine since the first day it came into german stores, i have preordered it for 53 lousy euros and it¦s worth every single cent!! only contra so far: i can¦t read the letters on the e,d,s,f keys anymore, cause i use them way to often (shooters are not good for keyboards :D)
some g15 users here seem to forget about the 3 modes it has for the g-keys, u can assign up to 54 keys/makros to the keyboard! in eve, i use all 3 modes:
mode1 (combat mode): g1-g6 = hi-slot 1-6 g7-g12 = medslot 1-6 g13-g17= lowslot 1-5 g18 = alpha strike
mode2 (navigation mode): autopilot, some windows (map, market...), bays, all FX off + turret FX off, "minimize all windows" ... can¦t remember all of them exactly, right now im at work! :D
mode3 (misc mode) login makro (can be used with repeat-mode), chat messages... still got some g-keys left here, any suggestions welcome! well, like i said, a very nice keyboard which has more to offer than just a "cool look". however, it can be used for cheating, at least in other games!!
SO PLEASE STAY FAIR, PPL!!! ____ no matter what you say...

This is a known issue with G15's that we're made in a particular month. Contact logitech, they'll send you a new one.

I use a Belkin Nostromo, it's a similar thing but just a lefthanded controller (like the MS strategic commander) so you keep your normal keyboard. Ilove this thing, it's very useful.

I have the same mouse as you, it's about 4 years old but it's still the most reliable mouse I've tried. The new model that MS replaced it with is bloody awful, you can barely push the middle button in with one finger.

I love the G15, its a bless for the tempest user ;)
G1 - fires F1-F4 artillery in salvo mode G2 - same as above, but fires all at once G3 - reloads all
G4 - fires cruises G5 - fires torps G6 - alpha strike! - fires F1-F8 at once
G7 - turns on/off all hardeners
G13 autopilot on G15 open cargo
G16 turn off/on turrets effects G17 turn on/off sound G18 open eve data monitor
native implemention for the LCD would be nice, but i¦m using it mostly for TS anyway (which rocks!)

That's a really nice setup :) I've 2 pc's and 2 identical monitors, I can dual-monitor one pc but it needs triple really cos with dual your ship etc is always right on the join
Used to use a laptop for 2nd account but prefer 2nd cheapo pc and nice monitor, my laptop has a crap screen.
As for the G15, I can never be arsed setting up stuff for it, I just use the lcd for watching teamspeak and a news ticker :)
