After getting fed up with ctding after less than a min after logging on I felt like trying a few changes to my system.
1) removed Sound card and used onbaord card with the realtek drivers ala CCP suggestion in forums 2) removed detonator drivers and went back to a older stable release 3) downloaded and installed the latest DeirectX 9b patch (stability and speed enhanc)
Findings after all this - Played for 3 hours last night and a hour this morning and only 1 CTD (Which from the error looked more like ISP probs than eve) - Lag at gates from NPC's PC's down fro maround 10-20 secs at crowded gate to less than 2 secs
Do not know if this will work for everone but since it worked for me though I would let peeps know.
Eve has now been the most playable for me since about the second week of retail

i run an overclocked system not massivly, but still a bit faster than it strictly should be I've been playing even since the beta and found that i stoped CTDing (apart from when my dam isp dissconects) after updating EVERYTHING i run win2k pro (not a gaming OS) and eve what hard to play when i installed it fresh from the box, but once i had all my VIA drivers etc, and geforce drivers all up to date, everything works fine! if anyones having problems with their eve CTDing all the time, I sujest they think about what else can cause it, like Dark Elf did,
run windows update, get EVERYTHING,
check all your drivers for updates
check your Bios for updates
what OS are you running?
check your ram for faults, i found that this last one was causing problems with a m8s pc when he played eve, after a few mins he would just get a BSOD, we traced it down to some cheap ram he had got, we replaced it and lo and behold, it worked fine!

Running Win2k Pro (without all the updates from WIndows Update - because I don't need them all) and I firmly believe that the CTD/Node Crash/Lag and all that has to do with the server stability and buggy client code not my system.
I have had days where I would play for hours and hours without a CTD at all. Then there are days where it would CTD every 15 minutes. That is not a machine issue but a Server issue and how it interacts with the Client, IMO.
Win2k Pro / AMD Xp 2800+ / 1 Gig PC2700 / FX 5900 Ultra / Asus A7N8X-D nForce 2 Mobo / nForce2 Soundstorm / All hardware drivers are up to date.
Buggy game code; however, I cannot control nor can I control laggy servers. The same exact problems happen on too many varied systems for it to be a system issue.
The only constant we all suffer from is Buggy Game Code and Laggy Servers. Therein lies the problem.

Constant for me before messing around was always ctding - about 10 times a hour at a minimum.
Now post messing around I crash less than corp other corp members.
Maybe the servers/net code is buggy but if you also have a problem with your system the problem is amplified.

Shall I tell you what I think of advice that tells me to remove hardware components from my system and downgrade drivers that work perfectly fine with both older and newer games than Eve?

one thing to add to VeNT's fine list if you are having wacky problems..
Quote: * run windows update, get EVERYTHING, * check all your drivers for updates * check your Bios for updates * what OS are you running?
* in many versions of windows there is a handly little MS tool. do Start - Run - MSCONFIG.EXE and click OK. in the system configuration editor click on the Startup tab. Wow! Lookat alla crap in there. Do your really need all that stuff running on your puter alla time? why not turn it off and see what effect it has on your stability...
