Is there a way to change the FONT that all the text EVE generates is displayed in? Whatever they're using now, I can't read 99% of it. I've tried changing the font SIZE, and that helps a *bit* but only for the chat window... not anything else. Any input is appreciated. thnx

Very common complaint.
Be nice to change it.
CCP don't seem to view it as a major issue.

Well, they better start to take it more seriously... I'm NOT gonna go blind squinting at the screen to play a friggin game... I'll take my $$$ and go play EQ or WoW or something...

It is possible to change the font . what you need ia a decent font editor that has the ability to read and save in pfb format..
However, please note that changing the font is against the EULA.
On saying that ..... it may be possible that I could be of assistance.
I may have a couple of variants.

I feel they are much worse than present fonts (Although I have no problem with the present fonts apart from STILL not being able to differeciate between some numbers and letters B and 8 for instance.

Instead of using a technically well designed font and streamlining the way text is displayed, they prefer toying around with things like spacing, line setup, window positions, ...
Look boss, I am working on the font problem. (Probably coming from all three devs busy with the problem according to some dev posts right after the CodWar/RMR font desaster hit us.)

You can only use certain font types. I haven't found any version of Verdana yet that works. Ordered a couple of Font collections this week. If I find something interesting I might post about it.

I'm looking into converting fonts now, since I'd like to use some of the "old style" fonts again.
I have no problems with reading the current fonts though, and I've got it set to smallest

The text is a bit small, but you can increase it via the ESC menu.
As for the font itself, I have no issues reading it.

Actually the users system fonts are ttf extensions ( true type) Eve uses pfb.extensions ( Type 1 multiple master) The TTF files contain many more characters in them than eve requires.
So you would have to a convert the TTF into PFB.

As CCP has came out and said..."We did not change the fonts" Soooo its must be on user side. I have never seen a problem from my end with the fonts.
Check your personel settings in your system and adjust to be more friendly with Eve-online.
Dont mind me I am just trying to catch up to DS and HK on the boards.... |

Flyyn, no, not everyone WILL have - it's an issue on a large majority of CRT's and large minority of TFT's. And where it IS a problem is looks REALLY bad.

Yes its me again.
just to inform the people / person. ( believe me its over 4 ) who have requested font updates for their particular flavour.
Verdana - should have it running by wednesday. ( tho current tests give it on par with my tahoma variant.( - but Ive started so Ill finish )
Cold War - (aka Hallandale. Many thanks to the people who have asked for this. And my regards to the person who supplied it) Current status is " being sworn at repeatedly" - the font is out of alignment to begin with and from an engineering point of view .. about as symetrical as a half eaten grape. - I will get this running (as its a matter of personal pride) but the font metrics are "absolutely not very nice".( pretty much on par with the current one - but worse)
Windings - sure Its possible to do it . Do you really want it :)

Hmm, i have to say that the example font given further up was quite horrible, looked like an overstretched non TT font from many moons ago.
Erm, however, for the time being, i've basically maxed out the font options to make the default readable, this means, context menu font 12, font width expanded, and the chat windows using the largest font.

yes I agree the first variant is not on the good side( it doesnt quite fit. ( personally shed loads better than the default) - however that pic was taken as described in previous posts at 1280 x 1024 condensed. with the 10 point menus. ie as small as you can get under the resolution set. ( the main target is for that one was the high res users out there.
The second one ( barring several inherrent metric issues ) works well in all the "lower resolutions" tho from feedback so far that may not be the case. ( as some high res users like it.)
You have to remember that screen shots are not the bestest way of portraying a font. Its down to personal preference and use. - all Ive done is give an option to some one who asked for help / instruction. - just the same as you yourself can do.

I play on a laptop at home and cant read 99 percent of in game text.
Im not particularly techy but friends who are have tried the various resizing,respacing etc that are suggested and my font in game still looks like hiroglphics. So Please, please eve developers put some alternative fonts in game options to sort this out.

There are ways of changing a font. Several Screenshots of various different styles of fonts can be found Here
Secondly . you mention you play on a laptop. A lot of Mid range laptops run the Sis or intel Extreme Graphics engines. Unfortunately These chipsets afaik are not supported by Eve and the problems do arise.

Would anyone know of a editor that I could use to change fonts over, from .TTF to .PFB? As I would like to see what Franklin Gothic Medium, Arial Black or Lucida Sans Unicode would look like.

The reason for this font is simple. The skill that makes it readable - (rank 5, charisma / memory) is done and ready, but whiners fear that the advanced version (rank 9, memory / willpower) will make certain play styles overpowered, and the game too easy for some professions. Some say that its about preserving the advantage of people who can afford to buy high end glasses.
Therefor it has been put on hold until a way can be found to preserve the harsh, rewarding atmoshphere in eve, where nothing comes free of charge.

I use Fontlab 5 studio. to transfer the glyphs into the the master evesans.pfb font

wow, this is just amazing 0lly. As a new player, I can't tell you how much I hate the default font. Very hard to read and eventually strains my eyes.
I m but a poor noob, however in the interest of science. I m going to donate some isk your way for further "reseach"

PS: Can you do a "New Roman Times" one? I believe "New Roman Times" is the international standard font for legal documents, b/c its so easy to read. Also, I m curious as to how long does it take for you to covert/create new fonts? I hope you continue your work! Thank you!

As to your question ... It takes on average between 10- 15 hours to make the font useable. (Tweaking the metrics and scaling are the time eaters.)
I really would like to convert a few more. however at this moment in time, RL is getting in the way.

Try spotting the difference between a 0 and a capital O.
How hard is it to put a slash through the zero and leave the capital O how it is? It's extremely frustrating when barking out destinations in 0.0 space where it's all letters and numbers.
