THE RULES:
Destruction Derpy
Ships
1. All ships must be nothing other than the ship type picked for the event. So when the event asks for T1 frigates, only T1 frigates will be allowed to enter. There will be 3 different categories of GÇ£metalvlGÇ¥: T1, Faction/Pirate, T2. So a T1 tourney does not include Faction/Pirate or T2.
Modules
1. Cloaking is not allowed. 2. ECM jammers are not allowed (with the exception of drones). 2. All meta levels are allowed, including T2, faction, deadspace and officer. 3. Drugs, boosters and implants are not restricted. 4. Mobile depots and otherwise refitting during a fight is not allowed.
Battle
A battle will have 3 phases: the preparation phase, the battle phase and the post-battle phase. before any of these phases go in effect, both contestants will receive a fleet invite from separate characters with equal boosting skills. players must remain in this fleet for the duration of the fight. dropping this fleet prematurely will result in a loss.
Preparation Phase
1. Both contestants will receive 2 bookmarks: one for their starting position and one for the battlezone. 2. Contestants will both go to their personal starting position at 0km range. Once landed at the starting position, contestants are forbidden to move around. 3. At their starting position, contestants will invite each other to a duel. Once the duel has been confirmed from both sides, both contestants await countdown. 4. When countdown finishes, both contestants will warp to the battlezone at their preferred range, albeit no more than 30km away from the battlezone. 5. Once landed on grid at the battlezone, we enter the battle phase.
Battle Phase
1. the moment contestants land on grid at the battle zone, the fight is on. 2. There is no maximum arena size, warping around on grid is allowed. 3. Warping off grid is not allowed. Doing so will be considered a forfeit of the warping contestant.. 4. The battle ends once one of the contestants loses their ship or warps off grid. 5. The maximum time for a battle is 5 minutes. 6. If the timer stops and no contestants have lost their ship, or if both contestants agree to draw the round, the match will be considered a draw and will result in round 2. 7. between round 1 and 2, players are allowed to reship. Round 2 goes through the same preparation phase as round one, only this time players have to warp to the battlezone at a maximum of 20 km. 8. If round 2 once again ends in a draw, both contestants will have lost the match and neither will go on to the next round of the tournament. 9. At the end of a battle, be it by losing a ship, warping off grid or ending in a draw, both contestants warp back to their starting position. 10. If one of the contestants ends up in a pod due to losing a ship, the contestant is NOT to be podded. Doing so anyway will result in complete disqualification and a ban from any future tournament or event hosted by Destruction Derpy & Co. 11. Once the battle phase has ended, the post-battle phase starts.
Post-battle
1. The winner of a match may chose to loot the wreck of the losing contestant. Alternatively the winner may make the wreck public. Public wrecks will be considered as a donation for Destruction Derpy. 2. Contestants post either their killmail or their lossmail for the records. 3. Judges will see if any of the contestants are eligible for one of the prizes. If this is the case, winners will be announced and prizes will be contracted no later than 24 hrs after the fight. 4. Depending on the situation, both parties will be placed in a new bracket for the next fight of the tournament.
General Info
1. The tournament follows a single elimination structure, including a match for 3rd place. 2. Judges orders must be followed. failing to do so may result in disqualification of this event and the ones that may follow. 3. External assistance is not allowed and will result in a loss and a ban. 4. The outcome of a match is indisputable. 5. Judge decisions are final and not subject to appeals.

Again, a great event and well executed.
I liked the rule that both players loose their game if there are two draws in a row. That way, we had to fit more aggressively for the second match. |

Here are my answers to the questionnaire. These are from the perspective of a PvP noob, since I have spent most of my short EVE career on less glorious pursuits.
Your ship.
Q: What were your considerations for the hull? A: I haven't trained for ships and weapons other than Gallente, so I had only a few options. I had planned to fly a Tristan or Incursus, but at the last minute I found out faction frigates would be allowed, so I threw a Comet together.
Q: Do you have a history of success with it, or were there other factors in your decision? isk? availability? trained skills? The T2 variant prize? A: No history of success. It was my first time flying it.
Your theorycrafting and fit.
Q: What was your plan for the engagement? A: My plan was to use my MWD to stay just outside of scram range.
Q: What did you hope your oponent would choose, between short or long range, shield or armor, Afterburner or Microwarpdrive, etc? A: I knew it was a roll of the dice. I'd have preferred an opponent in a close-range AB fit.
Your warp-to range to the engagement area.
Q: Both participants warp in from the same general direction. With a warp-in distance restriction of 30km, there is a chance your choice of warp-in could be the same as your oponent, or flipped... unintentionally and by chance. How did this affect your match and what do you think of this arrangement? A: I failed to understand we were coming in from the same direction. For some reason I thought we were coming from opposite directions and would land somewhere between zero and 60km apart, and that if I chose 20km, I'd be at least that far away. Lesson #1 learned!
In the engagement.
Q: What were your thoughts when you landed on grid with your opponent, and did you change your plan of engagement after seeing them? A: I was shocked to land so close!
Q: What advantages and disadvantages did you perceive initially, consdering things like your range, weapon types, and your hulls? A: Honestly I didn't even have time to look at what my opponent was flying. I pretty much panicked.
Q: How did you use your advantages and mitigate your disadvantages? A: I got off to a bad start and lost whatever advantages I may have had.
Q: Did anything change unexpectedly during the engagement? A: My rookie mistakes compounded. I mismanaged my repper and after I was deep in red I discovered even my DC was turned off!
Knowing your opponent
Q: Some players find that after a 1v1 PVP engagement, you experience a "feel" for your opponent. Did you experience this in your match? A: I'm not at a level at which I can think too much about my opponent. The bigger problem at this point is myself.
Warfare Links.
Q: This is the first Destruction Derpy held under full Mindlinked Command Ship Warfare Boosters. How did they change your engagement, and did you notice anything different in your ship? A: I was not expecting warfare links, so my calculations had been based on somewhat shorter scram and web ranges. As it turned out this did not make any difference, but had I performed better, it could have.
Further notes.
What would you like to add that hasn't been covered? A: I love the whole concept of the tourney. I like that a noob such as myself can enter. Some might say I have no business flying in a tourney, and they are right, but it's a ton of fun, and I expect maybe I'll get better in time. I did not expect to win, but I do apologize for not providing a better fight.

Here are my two cents:
Your ship.
Q: What were your considerations for the hull? A: Since I am specialized in Caldari ships/missiles the Hookbill was the logical choice. Had to be a faction frig to be competitive. Q: Do you have a history of success with it, or were there other factors in your decision? isk? availability? trained skills? The T2 variant prize? A: I flew a lot with Kestrels and the Hookbill is kind of the same idea just with better stats. So I picked what I was used to fly.
Your theorycrafting and fit.
Q: What was your plan for the engagement? A: kite as much as possible. I optimized the fit for speed and got up to over 5k with MWD. Against other kiters I fitted two Remote Sensor Damps, which actually worked out very well in the second match Q: What did you hope your opponent would choose, between short or long range, shield or armor, Afterburner or Microwarpdrive, etc? A: DidnGÇÖt matter a lot. I was hoping to kite any brawler and to damp the kiters so the only thing that mattered was getting range quickly.
Your warp-to range to the engagement area.
Q: Both participants warp in from the same general direction. With a warp-in distance restriction of 30km, there is a chance your choice of warp-in could be the same as your opponent, or flipped... unintentionally and by chance. How did this affect your match and what do you think of this arrangement? A: In the final we warped on top of each other which kind of sealed my fate nüè. But I think it is a good solution. Otherwise kiting ships would have a huge advantage.
In the engagement.
Q: What were your thoughts when you landed on grid with your opponent, and did you change your plan of engagement after seeing them? A: not realy. The pairing in the first two rounds were very much what I hoped for.
Q: What advantages and disadvantages did you perceive initially, considering things like your range, weapon types, and your hulls? A: I found the active reps with full links a little bit too strong. I couldnGÇÖt break most of the tanks in a timely fashion although I had about 80 dps.
Q: How did you use your advantages and mitigate your disadvantages? A: I tried to get range as fast as possible. That was pretty much my strategy and it worked well. Q: Did anything change unexpectedly during the engagement? A: not really
Knowing your opponent
Q: Some players find that after a 1v1 PVP engagement, you experience a "feel" for your opponent. Did you experience this in your match? A: I think the matches are too short to get a feeling for your opponent.
Warfare Links.
Q: This is the first Destruction Derpy held under full Mindlinked Command Ship Warfare Boosters. How did they change your engagement, and did you notice anything different in your ship? A: As mentioned above, I found the active reps too strong with links. You almost need a ship with more than 100 dps to break tank, which can be a problem for low skilled characters. Especially if you have a Crystal-Implant set on top of the links. Also buffered tanks are not really an option because of this. This is again a disadvantage for younger players who have difficulties managing guns, tank and ewar at the same time.
Further notes.
What would you like to add that hasn't been covered? A: I liked the idea of a double loss after two draws. Makes for an interesting second match

That was very insightful Piter, thank you. The damps were quite ninja!
The active tanking may in fact be too strong under links, and can be adjusted. Are you aware of the matches where structure was reached during ancillary repair reload? For the next match, one or both of the repair bonuses can be scaled with a T1 command module to address this. For the next match, one or both of the repair bonuses can be scaled with a T1 command module to address this. This happened during my match with Piter. I couldn't get close enough to him to do any damage (I burned out my MWD trying to catch him), so my only hope was to survive until the end of the round. I was letting my SAAR reload between cycles, and each 60-second reload lost me some structure, until I finally died. In hindsight I should have had the nanite paste reload turned off. I think the reduced repair rate without the 60-second reload delay may have been enough to save me. Of course, then I'd have had to come up with a better plan for the second round...
I am neutral on the subject of links. As long as we know ahead of time what links will be available, it's just one more part of our theorycrafting. If the links make the matches more exciting to watch, then I'd say they are a positive thing.

I remember that.
I was concerned that links would make ships too tanky to break, resulting in more stalemates, due to command boosts helping resists, reps, speed and sig--but not DPS. but it seems navy faction ships were able to overcome that condition.
I haven't finished reviewing the stream of the fights, but of the matches I've reviewed so far, navy faction frigates dominated.
I'll bring it up with Derp if he doesn't see this, but my first thought regarding navy faction doing so well is the ISK barrier to entry. I'll talk with Derp about some type of hull allowance for contestants. President of the Commissar Kate Fanclub | Rainfleet mk.III-á| Twitch | Imgur | Content \o/ |

a lot of solid PVP videos seem to involve just enough DPS to keep the reps running full-bore. would conventional reps and cap injects avoid the reload problem of ancillaries? President of the Commissar Kate Fanclub | Rainfleet mk.III-á| Twitch | Imgur | Content \o/ |

a lot of solid PVP videos seem to involve just enough DPS to keep the reps running full-bore. would conventional reps and cap injects avoid the reload problem of ancillaries? It's always a trade-off. Ancillaries give bigger reps while they have fuel (nanite paste), but then have either a long reload time if you reload or smaller reps if you don't reload. Regular reppers repair less than a fueled ancillary but don't need reloaded (assuming you manage your cap). If you use a cap booster to run either kind of repper, you can only fit so many cap booster charges in your hold. In my case I don't think there was an ancillary "reload problem" as much as there was an ancillary "mismanagement problem". Hopefully that's been cured!
Thinking more about warfare links in the tourney, while I understand armor links make some ships harder to kill, you could say the same about speed links or even scram range links. Every ship benefits from some links, and is potentially hurt by others. I don't think adjusting the combination of links to benefit one type of ship over another seems quite as fair as full links or no links at all, but I personally am fine with any combination of links as long as I know ahead of time what to expect.
