hello everyone,
at the moment i am running a myrmidon for level 2 security missions (still waiting for unlocking level 3). one thing which takes the largest, yet most boring part of the missions is the looting procedure after the actual fights are over. is there any way to speed up looting?
ofc i could loot infight, but would have to suffer from suboptimal target ranges and so on. i also read in a salvaging tutorial about using tractor beams or a deployable mobile tractor unit. i hesitate to mount a tractor beam because the lack of dps would make me feel uncomfortable. does anyone recommend the mobile tractor unit? or am i doing it wrong in the first place? *g*
thankful for every advice.

You're correct to avoid a tractor on your missioning ship. There may be some ships that have a spare high-slot for such things, but usually not. Instead you should use specialty ships, like a tractor & salvage destroyer, a Noctis, or a mobile tractor unit. One decent procedure is to rack up a handful of completed missions, preferably in proximity, and salvage them each consecutively, instead of going back and forth.
However there's a very good chance that you will gain the most income over time by skipping the loot and salvage, if you can clear missions fast enough.

Save yourself the hassle and leave the wrecks behind without looting. The loot is a pain to collect, it's mostly very low value junk, and you still have to sell it, which takes more of your time or gets you even lower ISK if uou sell to the highest buyer. Most modules are only worth material price, so on the paper you can reprocess them and sell the minerals in bulk saving yourself the trouble and time selling individual items if your refining skills are decent, however, CCP is nerfing reprocessing into the ground comes the summer update |

A Mobile Tractor Unit is a useful thing to bring. Drop it at the start of the fight and it will (slowly) collect all the wrecks. If you have a free high slot you can fit a Salvager module and start salvaging while you're still blowing up enemies. Optionally you can take a flight of Salvage Drones along that you deploy once the pocket is clear.
While an MTU is useful, it is also quite slow. It takes about 10 seconds to lock a new target and tractors the wrecks at 1 km/s. So if you have several wrecks at 50+ km, it'll take several minutes for them to be collected. As your killing speed goes up, the MTU will start to slow you down.
In higher level missions (L4, maybe L3) it can be worthwhile to have a Noctis docked in the mission hub. Bookmark one wreck in each pocket and after 2-3 missions, reship to the Noctis and go on a tractor/salvage spree. |

You could try a new approach to income - Since you know a little bit about what drops, try out creating buy orders on a few of those items in your mission hub. The Meta4 modules will work well, as well as the salvage. Once you've amassed a large quantity, sell it at a market hub.
I started that about a year ago, and haven't looked back since.

thank you, everyone, for your advice. it turned out that the MTU is the best solution if you don't want to leave the loot aside. personally i think looting is still worth it. it pretty much doubles your income from mission running in average. sometimes you even find items which still might be useful.
i will give the noctis approach a try when the time is right. at the moment i'm still stuck in level 3 missions. it might be worth on lvl4. |

Looting is the part of the mission, that has a moment of surprise. Missions become repetetive, check out what is in the loot saves you a little from boredrom.
You need at least two MTU as missions have mission rooms. You drop first in the first room, make a bookmark, do the same in the second room, and come nback to pick up your first one so you can use is in the third room and so on.
Do not bother with noctis. MTU get all your wrecks on the one pill. So simple catalyst with 8 salvager will do the same trick as skill and ISK demanding specialized ship. Just do not forget to bookmark your wrecks.
Actually, the only wrecks worth to salvage are battleships wrecks. The wrest will just eat your time, giving very little of ISK. |

You will find, as you graduate to level 3 and 4 missions, that the NPC bounties will go up and so will the loyalty point awards, and the loot value will not keep pace.
The best bet, IMO, is to drop a Mobile Tractor Unit when you get into each pocket, kill what you need to for the mission completion, then set up a filter in your cargo to 'show only worth >100k'. Hit that filter, loot all, scoop the MTU, and just ignore those wrecks that didn't get to you in time.
You'll get all the mission payouts and bounties, 60% of the loot, and only spend 5% longer than just blitzing the missions without looting. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=346564 - a proposal to overhaul the Logistics skill https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. www.minerbumping.com - ganking miners and causing chaos |

Loot with an MTU or two. Salvage with a Catalyst. Blitz through (and drop your MTUs and boomark them) and then come back for the wrecks.

so you really come back a second time with a catalyst for salvaging? is it really worth it? sounds like taking forever to exchange the ship. i know some people who play with multiple accounts simultaneously to minimize any time consuming delays. but i didn't really want to follow this path. a single account should be fine for a casual player. ^^ |

Some people do that, some don't. You can always contract out the salvaging work and split the profits. I think when I was doing 4s salvaging would bring in an extra 10-20m per mission (a while ago). The other option is, as stated, drop a MTU, bookmark, and return later, collecting everything and salvage.
However, some people might try to scan them down before you get back to them. My twitch stream to help new players: http://www.twitch.tv/biohazrd51

Two MTUs do not synergize as well as you might hope.
Try it, however. Hi
I also struggle with this greatly, especially coming from all the other MMORPGs on market. I did come to a sort of more efficient set-up.
1st off, you absolutely do not need a battlecruiser for lvl 2 missions, I was doing them in T1 frigates and destroyers, really not that long ago, about 2 months.
Go for support skills rather then larger ship, always have eitehr afterburner or MWD, collect loot, dont bother with salvage.
I started using battlecruisers on some of teh tougher lvl 3s, like blockade, thief or extravaganza where I wanted to kill everything. With a battlecruiser and looting this way I made approximately 40-65 mil per gaming session, usually 3-4 hours on lvl 3s, and by the time I even got to lvl 4s and joined a corp out in low / null sec, I had 8.0+ factions with both galente and caldari navies and jumpclones ready.
Back to looting, its a huge pita. The only way to loot effectively in this game is to dual box a noctis (or noxis or whateverthefk) and pay an extra monthly sub, this seems to be the status quo of this game, pay an extra monthly sub for every single simple function and multi-box, and it is bad to the point where it is one of the main reasons I will not be renewing my sub once my times up.
This sort of business model as a whole encourages and thrives on multi boxing and botting, where other games perma ban multi boxers and bots as they are kept in same categories.
Wait till you get out of high sec and see all the other multi box bots. scout bots, thousands of cyno bots, indie bots (multi boxes, whetever) anal bots.
Sorry bud, but looting is bad and it will just get worse, your ships will get progressively slower and have progressively more inadequate cargo (inventory) space. this is purely intentional to get you to multi-box the noctis and pay extra monthly sub, and its like this with literally everything as you will discover.

The mobile tractor unit is a very effective way to get a good % of the loot drops from a site without multiboxing. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=346564 - a proposal to overhaul the Logistics skill https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. www.minerbumping.com - ganking miners and causing chaos |

noob question: a catalyst was mention a couple of times as a ship of choice for salvaging. anything special about this ship? would any destroyer do? |

it's probably because of the gazillion high slots.
i will stick with the MTU for a while. i'm on the jump to level 4 missions. i think looting is worth there. |
