Well, that sucks. Twitch has too many ads as it is.
Time to find a new streaming service then. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

There are 2 things that you need to know about Twitch.tv
1. Setting your "game" to Dungeons and Dragons allows you to stream almost anything. 2. Upstream is capped at 3500kb/s which is just barely enough for 720 and certainly not enough for 1080.
Because of these two things sites like hitbox.tv which don't throttle your upstream are rapidly expanding as serious competitors. The fact that Google has purchased twitch has little to do with twitch and more to do with the name and popularity of twitch. Youtube and Google already have a game streaming service that puts twitch.tv to shame. They are buying twitch so they can use the same and popularity. Twitch is selling because they know if they didn't they would be gone within a year.
Moral of the story:
Don't throttle bandwidth, Ever.

Ok, now let me say this but this morning I read the news about Google buying Twitch.tv, BUT it is NOT final yet as it has to go thru regulatory processes and to determine if this would be monopolizing this particular type of service. If you're not keeping up with the technology news like I do then you're jumping the guns here.
Even tho if it did get approved by the regulatory system, there's a lot of hoops to jump thru in order for something like this to be finalized in the end product. I myself do not use any Google service and since this is coming down I will cancel my Twich.tv license as soon as I can. |

Shari Evan wrote:The Deal hasn't happend yet since the US regulators can block the deal. Quote:If the deal goes through, this would be the biggest acquisition ever for YouTube, which was itself acquired by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion.
But there is a fair chance it may not, if U.S. regulators are not convinced that the deal isn't anti-competitive, and would not impact the industry negatively. >US government decides to say no >Google decides it can take its internet services and infrastructure elsewhere, namely out of the USA
If google really wants to do something, they are big enough that our government just doesnt have the balls or the means to say no. Its not like we have Teddy Roosevelt or someone similarly competent in the office, or will ever again. |
