So, I am flying around in a Typhoon with heavy drones doing missions, and I like to sic the drones any any frig/inty that gets near. I usually have 2 good webbers on my Phoon so I can immoblize frigs in order to hit with my arty if I run out of cruisers to shoot.
After a while I started noticing something odd, it seems like my drones do more damage if i DON"T web the target. This had me confused for a while. Then it occured to me that the drones might be orbiting to fast to track the now stationary target. Is this what is actually happening, and can if it is true can I fix with with drone skills?

Actualy, you can make it WORSE by training drone skills.
Due to an old bug that was reintroduced a patch after it was fixed, the speed from the drone navigation skill applies to orbit speed as well as mwd speed.
There is no skill to improve drone tracking.

hmm...maybe thats why the made sentry drones

posssibly has to do with MWD, not sure of the specifics but generally players switch off MWD when webbed to decrese sig raduis, this is jsut a guess, but maybe npcs are programmed to do that too.

I do the same in my phoon. I had a fleeting web, and id web the vets so that my wasps could kill him... but when I unwebbed him, they hit it 500% better. Fix it please? :)

I believe this is a known issue as i have seen threads on it before and have tested it. Maybe i will file a bug report as it is not on the Known Issues list lol.
Basicly if you webbify a target and then sick your drones on it they will miss much more often then if you don't webbify it. Which is rather annoying. Feel free to try it cause it is noticable.
Personally this better not be a feature as its quite annoying.

I've been told that it's because when the target is moving the drones are following it, low transversal.
When it's webbed they are orbiting it, high transversal.
Makes sense to me...
Just a shame the drones don't have the sense to stop orbiting so they can hit.

This is a known bug with webbing frigates. You web a frigate (with a bigger ship at least), especially a tackler frigate, and often you simply stop doing damage to it, no matter what, as long as the web is on. Like today in Massive Attack, my Cyclone simply didn't hit an enemy 9km away even though transversal was like 30m/s. Nor did the drones do anything to it. Release web, and drones kill it. It's a stupid bug, and really needs to be fixed, it's a true pain in the arse in missions.

No, what is wrong is that CCP, by some weird reason, decided to use transversal velocity as a measurement of how fast ships move.
The correct way should of course be to measure the radial speed and use that for the tracking formula.
Now you have this really really weird times where you can have a perfect orbit around a target but still 100% of your shots since your transversal makes it look like you are flying by him really really fast constantly.
There are even times when you can not hit your target due to you orbiting, but your target can hit you.
I guess it is to late to change it to radial velocity now though =/

I agree with Emsigma, that is exactly the issue. When one is orbiting a target, your guns should not be doing any tracking since the target is stationary to you, and therefore tracking speed ought to have minimal impact in accuracy while orbiting. The way the system is setup now, it's as if the target is the one doing the orbiting, not you.
I understand CCP thinks that changing this might cause certain imbalances, but keeping this sysetm is highly unrealistic and screws up gameplay imo. I strongly urge CCP to look into this and make the switch to a better measurement, such as radial speed as suggested by Emsigma.

In my example there was no orbiting on my part. Generally when I'm in a bigger ship, I fight stationary. And as such if I for some reason miss like I described above, it isn't due to orbiting/transversal.
But true, the transversal thingie doesn't quite work right, the orbiting ship shouldn't be hurt by its speed the way the orbited ship is, it's just... faulty.

This is a very annoying bug. Had it myself a few times but dont notice so much now since i trained alot of the drone skills up. As for transversal to radial, ive always wondered why when you can have a taget webbed and going nowhere yet your guns miss! It almost as if the ship is used as the measurement for the guns instead of the amount the guns actually have to move. Come to think of it thats exactly the problem. A dev respnse about this would be appreciated.

Yeah, i've never figured out why they did transversal they way they did either, Emsigma. maybe it would make their server think more than they want, who knows. But, I think I was right, sentry drones should sove my problems when I get them

Read the turret tracking guide, both transversal AND target sig radius are factors.

I have read the turret guide, and this is not an effect of sig resolution at play, its the fact that my drones hit mobile frigs better than they hit immobilized ones. That has to do with the drones orbiting at speeds that them no longer able to track. If it was just sig resolution penalties make it harder for you to hit regardless of speed.

Read the post, and the thread for that matter, radial velocity, not sig radius.
