I have just recently decided to become a trader. I heve been doing it for a few days now, and haven't made any isk.
Do any of you have any tips on how to be an effective trader and how I can make a good sum of isk?
Like where the good trading hubs are and where to buy items for cheap and then go somewhere else and sell them for more.

Use the tradefinder. To start, you can search for trades within a single region by setting buy and sell regions to the same region. It should find you some decent trades. Then you can expand on that, and check out trades between your current region and neighboring regions.

Easy tip is to make an alt character that's in the adjoining Region to check the Market there.

Buy low, sell high.
For more helpful advice than that, have a look in the "Market Discussions" forum here on eve-online. They have a Trading 101 sticky and lots more advice.

You are asking about a specific area that is highly guarded..
1. place alts on seperate regions
2.look at map for # of ships destroyed in 24 hr=potential for clients
3.watch trends.. if there is a low supply and high demand
4.follow a few freighters around
5.high security right next to 0.0

uhm wolfbuzz, i dont realy follow any of those advices here.
all i did was :
i got the skills for a ship with bigger cargo, got the ship.
mined till i had 4 millions
opend market, looked at the prices, and what a full ship would bring me, those items i put on the bookmark side.
each time i login i check all those items, buy all thats realy cheap, travel around, collect it all, and sell it all at a station where it pays more.
with my 4 millions to start i made in the 1st day 10 millions, the next day i had 24.
it is realy realy simple to make 10 millions this way a day. if you got more money, you make more profit too.
i also never went to sectors lower then 0.5. and rarely change the region.
