Nope. Closest thing to America in this game is Gallente. Caldari are EXTREMELY more like Japan. New sig coming soonÖ In the next (content) patch Information Warfare will be nerfed. How sad, it wasn't even useful to begin with. |

Actually, it's kinda funny.
The Gallente are based HEAVILY on western civilization from 1945 onward. However, anyone with a good eye will notice a massive Macross/Robotech and other assorted "space anime" influence on the Gallente ship designs, while the Caldari (especially the newest vessels) have a very "modern hardware" look to them. ---
What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

Actually, this thread always gets locked because it degenerates into a flame-fest after an average of 11 posts. Just because the OP says there's no racial hatred being displayed, doesn't mean it won't be later on, or that nobody will be offended by his generalisations in the first place.
Safest just to leave it where the backstory does. Caldari is a weird amalgam of Nordic/Finnish and Japanese, Gallente is descended from the French, Amarr from an American church, and Minmatar from ... actually, I don't even remember. The important point is that all of these relationships are many, MANY, MANY times removed. There's not a shred of Frenchness left about the Gallente race, any more than there is Malawian about them. ________________________________________________

People who make up statistics deserved to be flamed. Even if you dont expect anyone to believe the gibberish you deserve the flame.

Yah this kind of thread always degenerates into some kind of political flamefest, when I play the game I do not want to be reminded of real world political crap.
This is game is based on fiction, far away in the future where hardly anything is comparable to our real world as we know it, lets keep it that way.

How are we meant to pronounce Gallente anyway? is it "gall-ont" like the French would do or "Gall-enty" to sound like caldari or minbari or something. I always assumed the latter until I thought about the French origin, but if it's the french pronunciation then what about the adjective "Gallentean"? am I taking this too seriously?

Caldari as North Korea? Caldari is a state based around corporate dominance. North Korea doesn't have a single domestic corporation. Period.

Caldari - Mix of Finnish, Russian and modern Japanese, the Achuras ofcourse being more towards Japanese/Asian with Deteis and Civire being more Northern European.
Amarr - Middle eastern areas with a mix of the kingdoms in the olden times like Persia, Byzantines, Greek and Roman.(I don't understand where American Church comes into this.)
Gallente - Western European like French and Italian with some Ukranian/Romanian in them, the Intaki having a more Hindu culture to them. Though the Jin-Mei bloodline looks Mongolian.
Minmatar - African/Nordic mix and a bit of Gothic/Satanist culture, the Vherokior look more Chinese or Thai.
Atleast that's my thoughts on it. __________ Member of The Raven Warriors Stain- Alliance Fighter Spreading the word of Enlightenment with the grace of God and Empire. Lieutenant for the Imperial Navy. |

The description of " . . . although any direct similarities have long since vanished" not withstanding, a lot of French words pop into the Gallente language in the backstory.
The Gallente appear to represent the archtype of a modern democracy more than any specific country. Also, the Gallente as a whole are really a federation of different races, containing the Intaki, Jen Mei, and formerly the Caldari. Each of these likely had very different origins.
The Brutors are undoubtedly from Africa, but the rest of the Minmatar race is less certain. I don't think you can pin the Amarr down to an American church. They seem based on the Byzantine empire, though that doesn't fully explain their origins, as the Byzantines are conspiciously absent from modern maps. ---- "Well in this case, he's being flamed, and rightly so, for whinning about a game mechanic that doesn't actually exist." -Lorth |

I don't tink of it as that clean cut. Especially with all the bloodlines. I'd say:
Caldari: North America & Japan Amarr: Vatican city, Mediteranean, Middle East Minmatar: Northen Europe & Africa Gallente: Southern Euro.

Tthe 'Caldari state' is almost an oxymoron considering its closest ideological counterpart on Earth is most likely Anarcho-Capitalism. Seeing as how Anarchism is anti-statist in nature, there is no Earth counterpart to the Caldari.
In my opinion, the Amarr resemble Spain durings its Imperial era with the Inquisition etc. It does not, as suggested above, resemble China seeing as how China is an atheist state. The closest in the modern world would be one of the more fundamentalist Islamic nations (Saudi Arabia in particular, and Afghanistan during the Taleban era), but they are not expansionist like the Amarr.
The Minmatar remind me of North African Arab nomad tribes.
The Gallente on the other hand are fairly easy to associate - they are basically the US (Presidential democracy, senators, federal structure). ------- The Eve Diplomacy Table |
