Links are broken, they have been since conception. Apparently I hit the nail on the head when I mentioned that CCP keeps links alive to collect additional subscription fees.
There is a general consensus about links being too powerful (granting too large of a bonus, impacting a battlefield far too drastically), or functioning off grid and offering literally no risk.
Please realize that NO ONE who PvP's with an off grid booster actually boosts with their main character, while their fleet mates fight on Grid. They must pay an additional $15 a month for the link alt and PvP with their main character. "Getting friends" is not an option as at least one of said friends must pay an extra $15 a month to both PvP and provide links to the fleet.
Suggestion, move links to function only on Grid.
Additionally, the bonuses granted are far too large. A 5% bonus per link ship would be far more appropriate. Ie. link CS requires 3 boosting hi slots. It has 7, 5 of which are turrets. You sacrifice one turret for a bonus to the entire fleet. Links may stack up to 3 times, once per boosting ship, for a total of 15% bonus to a particular attribute. Promotes risk, promotes command ships being utilized.
Currently, we deal with roughly a 30% bonus to each boosted attribute. |

Moving links on grids means that you keep those link alts, except now links are only used by blobs of 30+ people who can easily afford to defend their links, way to kill the functionality of links for a 3 man squad.
Terrible terrible idea with 0 thought put into it. |

Whats broken in Eve is players inability to deal with situations that arise from small, guerrilla type PvP gangs. The constant battering of underdog PvP strategies will eventually lead to a flat, dull PvP experience where numbers count more than tactics and fittings, as more often than not its these small groups and solo players providing content for the lazy F1 monkey fleets. Also, In null sec or w-space if I'm flying links I don't use any other characters as I prefer to keep my eyes on the job at hand.

What? Did you even think about this post? What makes you think that a hurricane with a link in its utility high is the same as having a dedicated booster with no defence/offense capacity?
Try again sunshine. You want to blow 1.5 bil on drugs-without-penalties then be my guest but at least make them attackable by a reasonable force in a reasonable timeframe. LP store weapon cost rebalance |

*It's worth noting that since I started playing I've watched many small groups and solo players which have inspired the way I play my Eve, most of their tactics have already been removed or nerfed hard, I am not inspired by KM whoring, killing newbies, ping pvping or large, blob gank warfare.

I thought it through a hell of a lot more than you thought yours through m8.
Was the suggestion to eliminate link ships or to bring links on grid? So why the hell are we talking about a hurricane using links? The blobs are going to have dedicated link ships on grid and will have a huge advantage to the small skirmish gangs trying to engage them who will be unable to field dedicated link ships.
That crap doesn't cost so much m8, you can run a link boat for around 300m not counting the implants.
I'd be more in favor of completely removing links rather than only letting blobs use them. I'd rather burn my ship down than see it taken by the enemy sort of thing. |
