Ello there. Ive read some about how BM's are kind of a hot topic for the developers and players. I figured id share the idea i had about them. this mostly applies to 0.0 space as well. bear with me :).
Stellar cartography: since everything in space is always moving acurate maps are hard to come bye and when they are made, soon afterwards (due to the natural drift of all objects in a zero gravity environment) they become inacurate. I suppose on the grand shceme of things that these inacuracies dont mean that much. but if you are a tiny ship trying to land on a spot 2km away from another spot that is VERY far away these inacuracies will justify the inacurate method that we now travel. (15km to me seems like good justification for that "drift") but i dont think the game takes that stuff into effect. *shrug*
Now my idea: in soverign space, you will have very acruate data on your jumpgate locations simply because they belong to you. in open 0.0 space and enemy space, the need to gather that data regularly appears... or trudge your ships from gate to gate the old way.
sending out stealth ships (seem the best candidates for the job) to "scout" systems you intend to assault making the attacking group move through enemy space faster. it seems like a cool idea to me :).
So a modual on a ship capable of gathering trajectory information on a gate. add the ability for computers to be able to predict the exact position of the gate for say 7 days (after wich the margin of error grows again to where 15km is the closest you can acuratly guess where the gate is)
in empire space, i hadnt given much thought to how you could gather the data from... maybee it could be standing based. perhaps agent based. same with faction 0.0 space.
you can upload the intel in a station computer and just download it to authorized visitors (corp/alliance members)no bookmarks, no copying for 7 hours. just a DL that gives an individual permission to warp within insta range.
i think it would add an interesting dynamic in the way we fight badpeople. you find out that scouts have been mapping your territories to the south and west... wich way is the decoy? wich station will they hit. some cool strategizing could happen :p
well thats it. feel free to punch holes in my little theory. fill some holes, or add your little 2isk to it to make it a better solution.

Heh could even give merc corps a new mission... intel gathering. Selling the data to the highest bidder! sounds fun now that i think about it more.

I like the idea.

Someone suggested an idea in the past that encompases your idea and a few other things...
Have objects actually orbit a body in space. Planets orbit stars, moons orbit planets etc.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying I endorse this or disagree with it - I'm just being constructive. ______________________ 106 days and still a hijack virgin... Cherry popped! ~kieron

I think the only solution is to just let people warp to the gate on insta automatically.
Nearly everybody has insta's anyway. And you need an interdictor to catch most people (unless of course they log out, CCP 4tw).

If nobody whined about insta's, then BM's wouldn't be an issue...
...and the whiners are the ones that want to gank/grief others, not pvp, not pirate, just gankage...and thats bad.
now CCP has made it tougher to copy bm's, and I can't disagree on a limit to the number of BM's each character can have, if it increases performance of the cluster without giving grief play the advantage.
And before ayone starts tossing flames, I use insta's, I lose targets to insta's often, so I play both sides of the PVP use of insta's.

There does need to be other soloutions, Shamis. A limited number (depending on ship size...thinking in terms of hundreds) of 0km warps you can carry (it'd be stored as an attribute rather than a position...), 15km minimum for autopilot, and T1 destroyers able to fit warp innacuracy sphere launchers (and gain some tank, in return for a couple of turrets)

The problem with this (and similar) suggestions is that it just means people will make alts who will zip throughout tranq mapping it. One for each corp, having to do it every 7 days or so... That's a lot of afk shuttles going around and not really helping the BM lag.
