I believe it's far to easy to be a pirate in eve. First of all ur security status comes back way to fast. Second how can anyone stop pirates when there is no way of tracking them or stoping them from running. With all my encounters with pirates i have yet to find one that will engage a combat ready ship. All i have seen is either gate camping or attacking miners. My suggestion is to make jumpgates act the same as stations, where as u cant dock because of recent aggresion. This would stop them from getting away as easily when someone does come after them. Because as far as i can tell there is no real way to hunt pirates down besides just wondering in space until u find one. Then again they will just run. I have only lost 1 thorax to pirates and dont think that pirates should be banned but the field needs to be leveled. Because from what i have seen there is no consequences for pirates. Would like to hear others views on the subject. Thx for ur time. --------Demon Balrog--------

Actually from what I've heard, its not that easy... 1. ships get blown up(they still have to mine to make new ones) 2. Isn't usually all that profitable except sometimes. 3. I've known a couple good pirates, so ....ya. ---------------------------------------------

Edited by: Drethen Nerevitas on 24/09/2003 11:39:43 Pirates are getting too rough a time, leave off them. The nerfs are bad enough. Do you want a mining sim? Really? In the words of one wise man... "Linky" _______________________________________________________________________

I have a good question about this, how does reversing sec status work? I know that killing NPCs does more to your rating as you get closer to 0.0, coming from a positive rating, but if your rating is -9, do NPCs give you a bigger help or a smaller one?

Im not sure about that. Again Im speaking only from my experience with pirates, but i know a pirate that went for -2.3 to -.01 in less than 2 days. I think this needs to be worked on, because if ur goin to choose to be a pirate then u should have to face the consequences. thx for ur time. -----------Demon Balrog-----------

Pirates get screwed in every patch.
Leave em alone. They take high risk and get the higest rewards. Its balanaced Mercenary | The Azath |

demon balrog is a perfect example of a carebear for all of you wondering what one is.even though pirates are limited to certain areas of space and he can easily avoid them. he wants them abolished or so nerfed they cannot be played effectively.i for one would not pay 12.95 a month to play a mining simulation in space.if you dont like pvp or roleplaying go play somewhere else.

I am not a pirate but I agree with you. Without pirates EVE would be boring.

Too fast? Try well over three months to go from -10 to 0.
Quote: Second how can anyone stop pirates when there is no way of tracking them or stoping them from running.
Agents can track people for you.
Quote: With all my encounters with pirates i have yet to find one that will engage a combat ready ship.
Is that so? Must be some ****ty pirates. If they run away so easy why are they a problem for you?

Tracking can cost someone a ship, it should cost a lot more to track someone..

HUH? we are not talkigna bout the same thing, by tracking I mean finding out where a pirate is so you can collect bounty.

Pirates are fine just the way they are.
If you really want to annoy one, get an agent with a search ability, find out where they've logged and camp their station at the rough times they usually log in. Sit at a safe point in space, once they log in (easy to check with address book, even though it doesn't work) warp to the station. You don't need to be elite, uber or anything just patient and willing to sit around for ages getting bored and earning zero cash.
Problem with this is that there is *no* incentive to do this. Pirate balance is now about right, bounty hunters on the other hand have to risk huge amounts of cash on a ship that even has the possibility of taking one out for almost zero reward. Bounties are negligable, even the top ones are only just above joke level. Bounties are easily exploited by pirates and others with neg. ratings which is why they never go up very high. Fix that and pirates will be hunted, as they should be, not by some crazy CONCORD fleet, but by players.
