I have noticed that fighters have to be tolg to attack a target unlike normal drones, ie attack and kill bs 1, they then go idol till i tell them to attack bs 2 . . .
this is time consuming to lock each target.
Is this a bug or as designed?

I would guess by design since the fighters will follow the target into warp so you don't want them attacking random hostiles who will warp away with them? Maybe. Fighters are expensive so I think it's better to have them fully under owners' orders. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I would hope this is by design. If fighters (20mill or so a pop) automatically went after a hostile target, this could/would be very abuseable.
IE, let's send in enough disposable frigs to get the attention of the frighters, while the bigger ships come back and hit the carrier, meanwhile the carrier's main weapon(s) are in warp ----------------------------- EVE Addict |

Are you saying the fighters will not return to the carrier once they warp out after the target? How do you retract them or can't u after they warp out?

Carriers are not imune to ew only motherships and titans are.
What im saying if a manned fighter should defend the ship not sit there and watch

they should auto attack within range, but not warp out unless you set them upon a target =P
