After the swedish police closed the site down (possibly an illegal action), its now up again. Several hundreds of people having their businesses on the same servers as The Pirate Bay, have lost alot of income due to the clumsiness of the swedish police.
In the last few hours, alot of sites have also been hacked, including the swedish anti-piracy organization Antipiratbyrsn (still hacked).
Its rumoured that the closedown was done after the swedish police getting alot of pressure from the americans. Personally, im glad the site is back up and im looking forward to seeing the swedish politicians & police get fried for this illegal action.

I'm sure after this no one's going to complain about slow trackers for a bit.

While the trackers are nice, the search still doesn't work.
I usually find the actual torrents on isohunt, mininova or demonoid anyway

Hooray for TPB. Copyright in the digital age really needs to be looked at, the current situation and laws are insane, unfair, and hamper innovation.

Though I don't believe a word of the ideals concerning 'freedom of information' the TPB spouts, it is good to see someone sticking it to the megalomaniacal ****s of the RIAA/MPAA. And they have balls, can't deny that. -------------------------------------------------- Loyalty, Integrity, Honour. |

For the ones that want to see the demonstration, its available on torrent under the name "piratpartiet.och.piratebay.mynttorget.avi".
I dont agree with their ideals either. In the demonstration they said that the state wants to prevent them from sharing knowledge, which is pretty far from the truth. Still, its disgusting to see the swedish police act in this way. We'll see if its illegal or not with time i guess, but their actions will only attract even more people to file sharing.

I was a member of an international group of file sharers. Most of what we shared was pretty legal and much of the mail list was help for people who had problems with their PC's. However, one of the group lived in Sweden and set up a private tracker to make our file sharing easier instead of using DC++.
After the problems with trackers being watched by the MPAA and downloaders being tracked on torrents, we asked about legality and how confidential it was. He said that Swedish law had no hold over it and he could run it no matter what the content of the torrents. Providing none of the files originated from his tracker and were hosted elsewhere, there was nothing they could do about it.
I heard that some states in the USA allowed try before you buy downloads of full software as long as the trial period did not exceed a certain time. After that you either deleted it or bought an original. Not sure about the truth in that, it was just a rumour. If true, it may be why groups like DOD hacked software and hosted it on IRC quite openly.

Actually, their business' weren't even on the same servers, they were just kept at the same location. The police basically took down an entire ISP and confiscated everything. ------------------------------------------- Boycott Starforce! |

Even clumsier then.
I know alot of people that suddenly started file sharing just out of spite for the way they handled this. Also there seems to have popped up many new torrent sites to support the growth of the network even more.
Everytime some state tries to forbid something that everybody is doing, it gets even more widespread. Its been the same throughout history with everything. Forbidding is never the answer. Adapting is. Just that adapting requires a brain.
