It's a tantalizing and false illusion.
Competitors with more money and larger fan base will undermine CCP's success if it even comes close to happening.
The real world has assholes too. Except when they cause your RL corporation to bleed money, you can't just dock up and wait 7 days. They will either take every asset you own or make every it worthless. |

A problem the original poster may have not noticed is to interact all those gaming genres would mean an acceptance of other types of lifestyles among the various player bases...
- How do people perceive Eve players but as fat neck beards that play a spreadsheet graphic game while getting together yearly at a sausagefest party to get drunk and now scrawl on public monuments?
- How are first person shooter players known but as hyped up teenagers or young adults that quickly bore of the current version of a game and are looking for the next instant gratification in head shots?
- How are the Facebook / Walking in Stations crowd noted but as a bunch of "barbies in space" that are into fashion ware while middle aged mothers discuss the cookies they baked while their newborn kids are pooping in colors (pictures included)?
- Not too sure are the Valk group... day trippers?
While there are people that will overlap various genres, the number of players that are a strong component of every aspect the original poster believes Eve can become would make a very small player base. And since there are already established markets available: Eve, Call of Duty, Facebook, etc., in my opinion, CCP should concentrate on being great at one particular thing instead of mediocre at multiple things.
Their history has noted that failed route. |

Well actually, governor, I have said for years that if CCP knew they are sitting on a time bomb here, something that could break out into a new way science fiction is consumed, they could change the game forever (or until some RL event puts us back into the stone age).
Think about it. Imagine all that Star Trek over the years was ALSO an MMO. Imagine if people didn't just watch the Battle of Wolf359, but were in that battle too.
All this needs is a show or some kind of series to "peg" it into mainstream delivery.
However, that kind of success could be its downfall. The hamsters have their limits.
Another issue is, there's no Maaaaagic Missiles. There's the sword and sorcery crowd to deal with. Some people will eat sleep and breathe sword and sorcery and won't touch a sci fi game if you paid them and others vice versa. For Eve to become some kind of "singularity", some kind of "magic" would be needed. One game tried that: Tabula Rasa and they didn't get far. We can make the argument that the power from science fiction tech and fictional magic are basically the same thing in end results - something is going to get fire thrown at it. But that's how things are.

Best thing CCP have done in this area is announce you can port your character between the games. I think that will have a lot of gravity with people wanting to play more than one of the titles but not wanting a new identity on each platform.
But Valk is not out yet and Legion is pre-alpha from what I can gather so we'll have to wait and see :)

I suspect the EVE community is the biggest threat to substantial expansion. EVE is niche and, as nice as it might sound and as much as CCP may want it, I don't see that changing substantially any time soon. |

Yes the Eve community was responsible for
WiS = Failing
Dust = Failing
WoD = Failing
In no way was CCP responsible for these things failing, it was all the communities fault.. We should all hang our heads in shame. |
