I'm looking to get a Destroyer soonish, and stay as a Destroyer for a while. This is basically due to all the other Caldari ships being butt-fugly-ugly.
Assuming I've got all the pertinent skills trained up (gunnary, command, electronics, engineering etcetc), and manage to accumulate T2 equipment, how far can I take a Destroyer as far as agent missions go?
Also, would it be better to use blasters or rails on a Destoryer? I'd assume a rail is safer, but I'm afraid any fast moving thing will get too close and my rails would be useles, i.e. swarms of drones.

A webber will make your rails useful at close range.
Note, however, that destroyers have nearly the sig radius of a cruiser but the hitpoints of a frigate, and are thus paper. There are level 2 missions they can't do, let alone higher.

I advice strongly against using a destroyer as your main ship, the cormorant looks very nice, but even with decent skills its usefullness is questionable. Take the pain of the cruisers, then go on trough to the BC, which i think looks better than the cormorant.
If you are looking at T2 equipment you just cant get to that level doing lvl1/2's, and the cormorant just cant take anything above a easy lvl2. ________________________________________________ I survived Veto and all i got was this lame sig. |

Odd that people say the Dessies are so weak, I did the vast majority of level 2 in a Thrasher. Also solo they are weak but they make excelleant support ships. I know someone who duo's with his SO in thrashers and does pretty well on several level 3 missions. All in all my suggestion to you is to go cruisers if you will be soloing the missions as it simply increases rate and decreases deaths.

In my own experience, a destroyer is a frigate killer pure and simple. The Minmatar seem to have th ebest destroyer, because it is quick and can dictate the range it fights to most frigates, and has a nice slot layout.
My Thrasher did me proud for lvl 1 missions when my skills were a bit low. However I have found that it is damn near impossible to do any lvl 2 missions involving cruisers, because they can rip you apart very quickly.
Again the destroyer has uses in PvP, but unless you are fighting a tier 1 cruiser you will get wtfpwned by anything above a tier 2 cruiser.
Being a Caldari pilot, I'd suggest you invest the time to learn how to fly the Caracal. This cruiser needs relativeley few skill points to use effectiveley, and will do all lvl 2 misiions with no trouble.
You can then use the Caracal to get your isk and skills up so you can afford and fly a Ferox, which will happily do lvl 3s
Once there you should have the isk coming in, and you can decide where to go from there.
Hope this helps

Destroyers work pretty good as long as you remember that they're just big frigates with a couple of extra weapons. With each extra skill level they become better and better. You will see improvements
There are L2 missions you wont be able to do solo.
Enjoy your decision, whatever it will be. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

omgomgomg....the concept sketches for new Caldari BC are HAWT!!!11
http://www.asgeirjon.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=1
I'll have to train up skills ASAP to pilot a BC, sponge some isk of vet friends, and just carebear the BC around highsec...while showing off of course.
My only complaint is it'll be a missle boat...missiles annoy me. Haven't learnt how to use them properly yet ><. The sheer limited flight time scares me. But just for the sheer hawtness of the new BC, think I'll learn the way of the missle.
So I guess I'll get a Destroyer, and just rat in 0.6 or 0.5 sec for a while, and just sell stuff to get money. Or maybe help guard friend's mining operations. Need....new.....BC HAWT!

A few days befor I went to Sisi to test out destroyers in lvl1 and lvl2 missions. With my 28M SP I was able to finish every mission in a fully tec 2 fitted Coercer. I was burning a few times.
For ppl with less then 5M SP a CRU is the way to go. -- $ perl -n -e 'print "Stop blameing pirates! Oveur is the root of all evil!\n" if m/podkill|lost my ship|gank|gate camp|Verone/;'
