i have heard here and there that the thanatos fighters bonus wasn't applying when fighters were delegated. is that true ?
that would make my archon as efficient as the thanathos when safespoting.

Carriers are pretty useless for combat, they are the show off tools of large alliances atm. On the other hand they can act as a mobile refitting platform and the long jump range makes them a nice tool for logistics.
They dont have any use in small scale battles and no small corp will be able to afford using these, much opposed to what CCP had intended. Oh well since the stealth bombers, we got more an more "role-less" ships.

Not true, we tested it on latest Sisi and the bonus also applies when delegated. --------------------------------

small corps can afford them easily and they are quite nice in small fights with inties having fighters assigned to them.

That still leaves them with little else to do then hide in a safespot or at a pos while others are having fun with their fighters.

When I fly interceptors I also seem to have too many things to worry about, let alone someone else's drones.

Might you have less problems with an extra 1500 DPS added to your total?

1500 DPS which everybody will notice long before you can use it. Bringing a carrier in a system without having a POS there is suicide against any decent force. A Carrier has a few mins lifetime against a few BS.

No, but the point is that there is no reason to be at the front. Everything you can do in a fight you can do from the pos, so why ever leave it ?

Drones which cost as much, if not more than your inty and have 0 insurance.

Edited by: Rexy on 05/06/2006 06:26:53 1. it's less boring. 2. it draws fire away from the gang, because, well it gets noticed. 3. nothing more scares the living **** out of a bs gang that just jumped in, making them week at the knees and eager to run(around for ever from the fighters)

Show of hands. Who here has ACTUALLY flown a carrier into combat here and isn't just talking out of their rear?

I don't feel all tingly inside about the my Nidhoggur's bonuses but I am also used to Typhoons for the past 2.5 years. To be honest all the carriers are really lack luster for combat, the models are too small and they don't hold enough in their ship maintenance array.
Motherships on the other hand............ are sweet. Even the Hel is an uber ship. The Amarr mothership is, however, super sexy if not overpowered.

Carrier is supposed to be used for group combat, to offer support to fleet members. ATM i havent used it in offensive combat, but in PVE and defensive it has proven quite useful. Also as a means of transporting large amount of goods without needing to run blockades is very useful.
PVE - Retribution with fighters assigned to it can take out dual/triple 1.4m BS spawns quite quickly
Defence - Carrier sits at POS and assign fighter to a fast frig. Managed to beat the crap out of a Thorax in no time so was quite impressed (but got my own ass kicked afterwards when I got carried away a bit, fighters survived though) |

i think the carriers are ok at the moment, they may need some fine tuning, As for the price for them i think they are perfect, my corp is only a small corp but we are getting 2 thanatos carrier's and maybe a third later.

everything amarr is overpowered
On a sidenote most (if not all) motherships and carriers are pretty borked atm. They suck at logistics (due to the bugs and limited cargospace) and they suck at combat due to their unability to tank or repair, which bans them to pos or ss with a funfactor going straight towards 0.

Perhaps people have the wrong idea, but Carriers are actually GROUP COMBAT ships. I mean, the ability to refit and repair one's friends in mid-combat, as well as equip those who have lost vessels with replacement ships, and send drones whizzing off after a fleeing target, are huge advantages.
I'm sick of people deciding that since a ship isn't an awesome solo pwnmobile, that it sucks. Carriers weren't designed as merely a fighter platform. Use the rest of its abilities for gods sake.
